Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
It’ll be really interesting to see how well Lego pulls off the Bowie, I wonder what the piece count for 76255 will be. Last year’s Benatar set such a high bar for spaceship sets that I can’t imagine that being surpassed. Also, new moulds for Cosmo and Groot please! -

Quite enjoyed the trailer and with Mangold helming this, I’d be shocked if the film didn’t deliver. Can’t wait for the set reveals! On the topic of the largest April set - if it is an Icons / Buildable Object, the only thing I can see it being is a Fertility Idol. I just can’t see a buildable whip / fedora appealing to anyone at all? Though of course, a system-scale playset would be much better -

Couldn’t agree more with this. The piece itself is quite appealing and robust for younger builders, but seeing it creep its way into more and more sets isn’t encouraging to see. -

The Quinjet and Brucebuster are an instant buy for me, love them! As for the Ghost Rider Mech Cycle and Miles vs. Morb sets, all I feel is apathy. I can definitely appreciate Lego trying something new with the former though. Also, does anyone feel like the package art has suffered a serious downgrade? Looks very generic now, although these are just cardboard boxes at the end of the day. -

It helps that the visual stye of the film, outside of a few minor quirks, is very much in alignment with the 2D and 3D Mario games. But as per above, I don’t think it’ll happen anyway. Lego seem quite set on just following their digi-figure approach so I’m sure the summer wave will just be more of that. -

Solid points, I think the issue for me this year is that most of the stuff we got just felt really…disparate? But that’s more to do with the distribution of content that the waves are based on more than anything. Still need to get myself that Sanctum. 2020 was definitely a very ‘meh’ year, totally agree there. I’m sure good things are in store for next year. -

It’s a double edged blade for me. As exciting (and addicting!) as leaks can be, getting official pictures as the first ‘exposure’ to new sets also has its merits. I feel the main problem with Lego’s approach is that they always hold off on official reveals for so long that things end up inevitably leaking anyway. After how great this year has been for the theme, I couldn’t be more excited for next year. The winter and spring sets and dioramas seem like great choices, but the real heavy hitters will be in the summer wave if the past 2-3 years for this theme are anything to go by. Can’t imagine we won’t get a flagship T-6 Shuttle set to coincide with Ahsoka, and the stars seem to finally be aligning that we’ll be getting Rex, hopefully in a 501st Y-Wing or Republic Gunship. -

Fully agree with you. As much as a massive Rivendell set is a dream come true, gauging interest in the theme based on a massive Lego Icons set just seems so utterly ill advised. How many fans will want to spend that much money, let alone have the space for such a set? Demand will be there for sure, but I’m holding out hope we’ll get a system-scale wave in the summer, even if it’s a small one. I’ll be buying Brickheadz for the first time as well just to support the theme’s comeback, although it’ll just be Gandalf vs. the Balrog for me. I feel Brickheadz would be much more fun to collect if Lego got more creative with making textures and patterns out of pieces rather than just depend on prints, but that’s not a discussion for this thread. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I sincerely hope that’s not the case but certainly a possibility. Big fan of your MOCs by the way! The resurgence of Indiana Jones is one of my most highly anticipated set waves for next year. It does feel weird for Lego to release the legacy sets in April given that the fifth film comes out in June, however that makes me think that we’ll most likely see the second wave in June too. Still, a 2-month gap between waves seems significantly small unless the wave releases after the film akin to the Avatar: The Way of Water sets. -

It’s the only Infinity Saga set based on the first Avengers film so this does seem like as good a guess as any. Throw in a Chitauri or two as Lego already has the redesigned prints for them. Preaching to the choir here, but I’m with you all on the hope that we get some No Way Home stuff next summer. The MCU film slate is quite light next year so it would be the perfect time to do it. In addition to the revealed Funko Pops discussed a few pages back, there’s also a sizeable Hasbro Marvel Legends wave for the film on the cards going by reputable leaks, so I can’t imagine Lego wanting to miss out on this. Overall, I feel this has been one of the weakest years for the Marvel sub-theme since 2012, but I’m optimistic next year will be better. Still need my Moon Knight and Mr. Knight figures! -
Super Mario 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

The new Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer looks great! The film seems to be pulling from all areas of the property’s rich and diverse history and I’m all for it. Definitely beating a dead horse here, but I sincerely hope we’ll finally get a wave of minifigure-scaled sets if only to coincide with the film. There’s so much from the trailer alone that would make for some excellent sets. Of course, that doesn’t seem too likely as confirmation of any sets related to the film would have been leaked by now given that it’s an April release, and the January wave has already been revealed anyway. Really interested to see what awaits the theme next summer! I don’t collect this line but all the buildable characters and interactive level designs are brilliantly thought-out. -

I concur with many of you, the “rationale” not to produce any JFO sets is weak at best. I wouldn’t be all too surprised if this was a Disney / Lucasfilm mandate as the game sort of came and went (despite being quite excellent!) without any further hype or push, save for Hasbro’s Black Series action figures. Obviously this is no longer the past, but I do miss when all new Lucasfilm content would be guaranteed to get Lego coverage to at least some degree, it used to feel fresh. Now it’s very much “Is it even worth producing sets for new XYZ media?” Understandable, I suppose - even if the subsequent reception towards said media is positive. I am glad we’ll be seeing new Mandalorian sets at least. It’s interesting to get confirmation that the Razorcrest was already in the pipeline whilst the Child was a late addition. Even if next year’s set lineup is due to more “more of the same”, I do at least hope for more new characters and character moulds. -

That stood out to me as well, however it’s just as likely that Lego are saving more S7 content for next year. Although, I suspect this will be drip-fed at best. I imagine the concept material made available to Lego were character designs moreso than anything else, hence the tenuous relationship between this summer’s two Clone Wars sets and the actual content of Season 7, which would have made for a solid selection of sets. On a slightly different note, I find myself drawn more and more to the DSII Final Duel rehash. As an owner of the original 2015 iteration, the new updates to the set itself in addition to Vader’s arm printing are neat. Whilst it’s not the “prettiest” set, it’s one of the most substantial location-based Star Wars sets I can think of. I’d love to see more location sets with this approach and less like Battle on Takodana / Battle on Scarif / Encounter on Jakku (lower price points aside and the fact that these sets had their own merits). -

That’s a shame to hear, albeit not all too surprising with the dearth of major SW content next year. The comparison you draw at least suggests we’ll get a spread of sets drawing from all eras. While I’m still holding out for a P2 Captain Rex or something from Fallen Order, I’ll keep any bouts of optimism in check. The Sith Mosaic looks absolutely gorgeous, very smart move of Lego to provide 3 options and modularisation to create something even bigger should the consumer splurge on multiple copies. The addition of being able to listen to a specialised podcast to complement the building experience is also quite interesting! Really nails down that this is to be considered a premium, adult-oriented product. Lego really need to work on the copywriting for their product descriptions though, especially for the system sets. Goodness! -

Apologies, what I meant was that within the theme itself we’re seeing less moulds per year, rather than in relation to other themes. In any case, I was being too pedantic and stand corrected -

The lack of new minifigure moulds is certainly something that irks me a fair bit, especially as they’ve declined in quantity substantially over the last three years alone! Though of course, 2017/18 had TLJ and Solo, whilst we had TRoS last year. It would have been nice to get new P2 clone helmets this year if only for the extra holes on either side of the helmet for add-on parts like the P1 helmets offered. I’m still itching for a P2 Captain Rex / Commander Cody at some point, although this seems more and more unlikely. You have a good point here - the TCW headpiece we got 12 years ago works fine for Anakin upon a cursory glance. Even if it isn’t necessarily the most accurate, it does the job. Saying that, a new mould would be most welcome. Looking at the clearer catalogue pictures, the wave has definitely grown on me. As always, it’s easier to appreciate it on its own merits rather than on the grounds of missed opportunities. Hopefully we should be getting official pictures any day now, would like to see if the Night Buzzard holds more than 1 or 2 minifigures! This will be my first AT-AT as I was too young to ever get any of the earlier iterations so I’m excited for that too. -

Wow. Certainly one of the more eclectic waves of sets I’ve seen in recent memory. The AAT looks pretty decent, naturally the standouts are Ahsoka and the 332nd Trooper which will make it a sure-sell for many, including myself. The Night Buzzard looks great for what it is, and Lego’s renditions of Cardo and Kuruk are faultless. Anakin’s Interceptor, as expected, is nothing exciting. I was hoping for a third mini figure as many of you also were but remain unsurprised at that’s not the case. Resistance Transport looks...okay I guess? Nice to see a new ship and a Galaxy’s Edge tie-in was inevitable I suppose, Hondo would have been a nice addition to this. Happy for those who missed out on 2015’s (perfectly fine) DSII Final Duel to be able to get the new one, though it still feels like a waste of a slot. Grievous’ Starfighter is honestly a head-scratcher. Absurdly overpriced without any tantalising mini figures to actually make it as appealing as it could have been. While I’m grateful we’re getting some highlights in this wave (Razor Crest included), the best way to describe it is tone-deaf, in my opinion at least. More than a few sets from this wave are lazily designed, hopefully next year will offer a stronger line-up. -

Pretty bummed out that we’re to supposedly expect another lacklustre lineup of sets. Given the swathe of new content from Rise of Skywalker, Mandalorian, Fallen Order, and TCW, I was hopeful we’d get a decently robust summer wave -

Disappointing that most of this wave is comprised of remakes, but that’s moreso an issue of the ST’s almost obsessive focus on original trilogy designs. But as a wave of sets in itself? Pretty good all in all. The builds are solid for the most part and the minifig selection is great! Although I must say the turret just seems like a waste of a slot. Will pick up every set except for the A-Wing, Turret, and Yoda. Does the jet trooper in the speeder chase have a new jetpack mould? Certainly seems like it. -

Wow, every single TRoS minifigure looks amazing so far - so many new moulds too! Seeing as Finn has an accurate hairpiece, it would be great to see Kylo get the Mad-Eye Moody hairpiece in black. It would be perfect. Interested to see what other characters these sets will have. Some more Knights of Ren are likely, and maybe Jannah as well? Standard FO and Resistance personnel are a given. Hopefully the sets themselves will reflect the incredible quality of these minifigures. -

Nothing as of yet, however bear in mind that Force Friday falls on October this year, rather than the characteristic September releases. My main concern regarding the TRoS sets is that Lego will reserve all the cool characters for later waves due to the severe anti-spoiler policy the sequels have adopted. I remember the initial TLJ wave feeling so bland in terms of characters, although that may just be me. Hopefully we will get the Knights of Ren, new trooper variants, Zorii, etc. in the first wave. Given that so many of the sets in this wave are supposedly re-releases, the figures at least need to be captivating!
