LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kaijumeister replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I could buy in to the theory that the sets could be legitimate whilst the minifigures are the more April 1st-oriented aspect of the article, but again it still feels too far fetched. I do agree that the minifigures as a whole seem quite underwhelming. I’d be interested to see how Lego would tackle a UCS Venator over the next couple of years though. The ISD had the docking bay and mini Tantive-IV - it would be awesome to get a small complement of microbuild Jedi and Clone Starfighters (Delta-7Bs, Actis-2s, V-Wings, etc) that could be stored within the ship through a small docking bay build within the Venator. Anyway, see you all tomorrow folks! -

I keep deliberating on the Lost Tomb set. Will definitely be purchasing the other two, but my interest in this one keeps fluctuating! Might go for it…the U.K. price is absurdly good as it is anyway @Lucarex From previous observations, backorder dates seldom actually that long for stock levels to meet demand, it’s just Lego giving a worst case scenario. Realistically, stock should return within a few weeks to a month. -

That new Yoda head mould looks so odd in the 4+ set, but given that it’s a ‘smoother’ piece where details like the eyes are printed on, I could easily see this being the new piece for him moving forward. Just use a darker shade of green and print less bulbous eyes to make it more realistic, and it wouldn’t look too bad. Again, so many new moulds in this set! Keep it coming Lego, I hope the summer sets continue this trend. Regarding the Swamp Speeder, again my consternation around that set is due to how tiny the set will be for it’s pricepoint. I’d ask why it isn’t a battle pack, but then the answer is technically because set price points are assigned before their contents are determined. That makes me think the set surely has to have something really special minifigure-wise? I can’t see it being something like Kashyyyk Troopers. -

I’ve always liked TBB but the show really found its stride midway into Season 2. If one of the September sets is a Bad Batch set, I’d honestly love that. Give us the team in their updated Season 2 outfits (with backpacks this time please). Lego really botched the Havoc Marauder and Justifier for various reasons (the former undersized, the latter oversized), so another Bad Batch set that’s executed better would be most welcome. -

It would be pretty cool if the Ahsoka sets mimic the Kenobi ones in that the larger set is a prominent ship from the show and the smaller one is a location build. Most people hated the Mapuzo Duel set, but there’s no denying that it was shockingly accurate to the scene it represents. The set might be bland and boring, but I’m sure it would have been much better if the source material was more inspired. The Ahsoka show will certainly have far more interesting locations than Kenobi did, so the possibilities are exciting. -

Just a heads up, @jdubbs tends to be in the know about upcoming sets. If they question something, it’s not just speculation. But damn, getting Windu with that sweet arm printing makes me really want an updated Clone Wars Obi-Wan. @AD_Bricks Absolutely! The Vector simply screams for Lego representation. I know we all have our varying opinions on this year so far, but for me the most questionable set of them all is that buildable Chewbacca. I cannot imagine that set being that successful, anyone here actually excited to see it? I’m iffy on Yoda’s Starfighter too, but hope that set will be more than just an excuse for Lego to use up excess Yodas and R2s. -

Oh wow the Young Jedi Adventures poster has Jedi Vectors on it. I’ve been wanting that ship ever since the High Republic books first debuted - imagine getting that ship for the first time as a 4+ set, unlikely as that would be! -

Yeah I concur. For the most part, Summer 2021 and 2022 had solid set lineups and huge swathes of new minifigures. I felt like that was the new ‘standard’ to expect following the overall variety of sets we saw between 2015-2019 and was all for it. I do agree that in terms of cohesion, things could be better though. It’s a double edged blade - on one hand getting a richer diversity of mostly unrelated sets is nice to see, but at the same time it can feel quite disparate. My overall thoughts on the year will hinge on the quality of the September sets, which are ‘meatier’ in terms of piece counts compared to what we’re receiving in August without venturing into UCS territory. For the new Ahsoka figure, a new montrail piece and printed arms are a must, and I’m somewhat confident we’ll get those seeing how much detail has been put into Disney+ show minifigures thus far. For anyone keeping up with the reputable leaks from the show, you’ll know of the potential for some stunning minifigures. -

Never in a million years would I have imagined RotJ Luke getting a new hair mould. If Lego make this, surely they’ll also make a new headpiece for Ahsoka right? …Right? Love both dioramas, I was expecting the Emperor’s Throne Room to be a simplified variation of the 2015/20 Final Duel sets on the usual black base, so getting a full on diorama of the throne and viewport section exceeds expectations, it looks great! @Mandalorianknight I 100% agree with you, this whole sequence is the best scene in all of Star Wars for me as well. The Endor Speeder Chase also looks fantastic. I would’ve appreciated even more foliage / fallen logs on the ground, however it works fine as it is. This year’s dioramas are a good step up from last year’s in my opinion, it’s a damn shame that we won’t see Jabba’s Throne Room though. I do hope it’s just delayed and not cancelled outright. -

In an ideal world, everyone would be getting a good breadth of sets from every era eh? Lego certainly had an easier job of doing that until mid-2015. Things are rapidly accelerating with new content and I think the LSW team are going to struggle picking things to make as the years go by. Summer 2021 was an extremely Mando-centric wave and even that, I can’t see happening ever again given the cadence of new content we’re getting. Not to mention newcomers to the theme who’ll want their classic ships. -

Just picked out some points from your post. PT / CW sets fundamentally excite me more than other eras too. In addition to everyone’s personal preferences for their favourite era, what’s even more pertinent to Lego as a toy for kids is that PT-era vehicles are simply more colourful and diverse in terms of creative designs compared to the OT. They may not be as iconic, but they certainly are visually interesting and often quite vibrant to look at. And for kids, that goes a long way. As much as I love and appreciate the OT, I’m really tired of seeing sets dominated by grey pieces, including from the Mandalorian. Agreed about the Design Team too. They’re certainly competent (greatly so) in set designs for the most part, but I’d love to see the same sort of energy and attention to detail as, say, the Harry Potter theme. I was initially quite disappointed in the summer lineup, but if the 4 September sets, Swamp Speeder, Yavin IV, and Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor sets are solid enough, that’ll redeem the year for me. Overall, I’m feeling more cautiously optimistic than I was in February when the initial list leaked out. If that initial list was all we’d be getting, then this would indubitably be one of the weakest years for the theme yet. You made some great points here. Building on that, I think the UCS and playscale Gunships are different enough to satisfy different types of consumers at the end of the day. I always felt the UCS Gunship is oversized and somewhat loses its charm by not being able to actually scale with minifigures, but that’s by design of course. Conversely a playscale Gunship would occupy far less space, have a tighter design, and just look ‘cooler’ by actually being able to hold minifigures in a realistic manner. Just a wild assumption on my part, but if the UCS and System-scale versions of this vehicle were on shelves at the same time, I’m sure most people would gravitate towards the latter. -

Yeah I never understood the argument behind how UCS sets being on shelves restricts the possibility of system-scale equivalents concurrently being on the market. The past few years (this one included) have proven the contrary. I’m starting to think it’s quite possible the smaller Ahsoka set (75362 - 599 pieces) could indeed be the T6 Shuttle. Surprisingly the one released in 2011 is pretty hefty, yet contains only 389 pieces. Of course builds have gotten far more intricate in the past 12 years, but most of the ship’s bulk is along the central fuselage and cockpit - otherwise the massive wingspan probably doesn’t require too many small pieces. Conversely, ships like the Scythe have tiny wings but the main body is quite large, hence the higher piece count. Wouldn't mind being completely wrong here though. A large, sleek T6 with a full cockpit / interior is not something I’d scoff at. -

I still can’t fathom the point of paying a license fee just to end up releasing three sets. Very little about this theme makes sense. I know we’re going in circles with this rhetoric, but it certainly highlights how we just want some concrete answers. -

Still baffled we’re getting Yoda’s Starfighter this year. There are so many better options for ships from that time period and size. (Unless we get a ridiculously cool surprise, such as it coming with Darth Bane or Count Dooku). -

God, please not Mando and Grogu again. They’re already in the Spider Tank and Microfighter sets, so I highly doubt they’ll be in the Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor. If we do get Gideon, I’d love it if Lego revisited his face print. The one we got in the Light Cruiser looks absolutely nothing like Giancarlo Esposito. -

To be fair, Boba Fett’s Throne Room comes with 7 minifigures and has the same MSRP as the Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor. Not saying we’ll be that lucky this time round, but it’s not entirely inconceivable that we’ll get a pretty solid minifigure lineup for this set. -

For me, not getting DoD sets is far, far more egregious than the ToD being cancelled. Lego handled Avatar absolutely fine, so why not Indy? I know I say this enough to sound like a broken record but DoD is going to be a great film, imagine screwing up badly enough not to cash in on the hype. This made me laugh, not in a mean way but because I honestly understand and share this disappointment a great deal. I would love to know who made the final call. Was it the Lego brand manager for Indy? Was it someone even higher up? I really wish Lego could just release a concrete statement to say this is all there is for Indiana Jones, and that the theme has no further sets planned. Surely they had to pay good money to obtain this license again as it is? -

Not so much major scoops, but they tend to comment information about sets that end up being proven accurate once they’re revealed. It’s been ongoing for a while and they’re definitely trustworthy. @Goofster Could go either way. The T6 is a pretty large ship so I can easily see that being the larger set, with the smaller set being some sort of location build maybe (like last year’s two Kenobi sets). If the T6 looks as good and has as good of an interior as last year’s Scythe, it’ll make for an outstanding set. For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, this is what the live action T6 will look like, as shown at Celebration Anaheim last year. Striking design and colour scheme to say the least! -

Oh yeah that reminds me, the same mod (absolute legend btw) pretty much confirmed one of the Ahsoka sets is her T6 Shuttle. The comment is on the Yoda’s Starfighter thread in that subreddit if anyone is interested. With the new moulds we’ve already seen this year, I’m getting more and more hopeful we’ll finally get a decently proportioned mould for Ahsoka’s montrails. It is long overdue. -
Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I can’t imagine it’s any more fun for Lego than it is for us consumers that sets are getting more and more generic in terms of movie accuracy with each passing year, just because Marvel Studios are increasingly tight lipped. Like with the Guardians of the Galaxy sets, nothing beats the 2014 wave to this day - they had a good blend of heroes and villains and were remarkably movie accurate. The same can be said for 2017’s Vol. 2 wave, even if they were smaller in scope. This year’s Vol. 3 wave comparatively seems like a massive step down. Films like No Way Home and Endgame are deviations from the norm in that we do get better quality sets a good while after the respective film has released, but that’s because the demand goes far beyond doubt. I can’t imagine that applying to each and every MCU film, so it’s more likely than not that a lot of these films will receive tie-in sets that are ‘good enough’ but not great, as we’re seeing with Quantamania, GotG Vol. 3, and presumably the Marvels. This is more so the case given the increased volume of MCU content in general, even if they are slowing their output to account for quality. Could be way off the mark, but just my two pennies. If films like Age of Ultron and Civil War released this year, can anyone imagine the corresponding sets being anywhere near as accurate / spoilery as they were back in the 2015 and 2016 waves respectively? Probably not. Also @Scarilian, I definitely agree one of the unknown August sets could very well be another NWH one. Again I don’t see why they’d skip Lizard at this point given the film released over a year ago and his relevance to the story is well known. Even if they throw him in a bridge battle set, I’d be down!
