The beginning of my little army
Praiter Yed replied to charlieboy's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
For some reason I half expected to see an army of Futron's But seriously, that looks like a really nice paint job - I'm slowly being converted into a lover of painted minifigs! -

My First Decal - Ghostbusters
Praiter Yed replied to WetWired's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I'm not 100% sure for your average white decal paper - I'm still pretty new to this my self and still experimenting - but I've used white lazertran paper without any really noticeable white edge but that paper is quite matt and doesn't react well to my varnish, I've also used white dry-rub decal paper which I find nice to work with but does leave a white edge (which can be reduced by rubbing with cotton bud soaked in lighter fluid). Yes, I've tried that here, the clear decal is left slightly raised but not so much that it's hugely noticeable. It would be nice if the white was stronger but alas I get the base colour showing through again . I'm still doing some experiments with other materials using this technique. -
My First Decal - Ghostbusters
Praiter Yed replied to WetWired's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Maybe this shameless link to one of my own customs will give you an idea. I've used similar colours to your decal and I think for the most part they come out OK. Your lighter colours will darken noticeably over a tan torso but the darker bits should look very similar to your design. The flesh area may be a problem... In an attempt to lighten the flesh tone of the sample in my link, I recently re-did the decal with less yellow in the flesh colour - the result was better but I still feel could be improved. Based on my results so far I would suggest taking some yellow out of your flesh area so that your decal looks slightly more pink - in theory when applied the yellowish tan colour will show through the light pink creating a more fleshy tone. Hope this helps. EDIT: I've just checked my altered decal and in my latest attempt I made the flesh colour out of these colours; C-0, M-30, Y-25, K-0 or R-250, G-191, B-175. -
My First Decal - Ghostbusters
Praiter Yed replied to WetWired's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Nice decal WetWired . I think the way you have done it, going right up to the edge, is fine. Don't forget when you cut out your decal you will need to trim slightly inside the colour anyway to avoid getting a white edge. My only advice to you would be to print a test on plain paper before using your decal paper (something I all too often forget to do ) - you may find that when you print at actual size some of your nice details become too small to see. There's a chance you might need to increase the size of Venkman's name tag - but you will only know for sure once you have done your test print. -
I hope this hasn't already been posted, couldn't see it anywhere... there's a really good clip over at apple trailers... "The Face Off"

I hope this is the type of information that warrants me making a double post ... After watching a 12 minute 'sneak peak' (lucky ###s) the good people at empireonline have provided this spoiler-tastic article... "19 Things We've Learned About Prometheus". And for the doubters out there, they have confirmed that this is an Alien prequel . EDIT: Wouldn't want to push my luck with a triple post , but a really good viral video has been released... "Happy Birthday David". From this video and imo Michael Fassbender appears to have created a very original android character that somehow reminds me of David Bowie. Additional edit: Prometheus has been given a US rating of PG-13 and 15 in the UK. A new trailer can be seen here.

I've been hoping to build a 12x12 vignette of this scene ever since I saw the S6 Lady Liberty figure, to squash it into a 8x8 for this competition was quite challenging and fun Minifig: Lady Liberty Theme: Sci-Fi (Space) Three astronauts crash their Star Fleet Voyager on a mysterious planet ruled by intelligent apes. The apes shoot and kill one during a human hunt, another is lobotomised and the remaining astronaut is imprisoned in 'a mad house'. Then some friendly Chimpanzees help him and a beautiful primitive woman who can't talk (perfect ) escape. Eventually the astronaut discovers the ruined Statue of Lady Liberty on a beach and realises, (OMG) he's been on a future Earth all along!.. More in my Brickshelf

That's a very nice collection and really well photographed, the colour wheel in particular . This also makes a nice reference piece, I might have a quick look here the next time I need to find a particular coloured part on Bricklink . I'm surprised that there are no plain torsos in bright green or dark bley.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I don't really like hand-painted minifigs, they always tend to look so... well, hand-painted. That's not to say I can't appreciate the creativity and skill that goes into creating one, I really do, I'm generally very impressed, they're just 'not my cup of tea'. BUT imo what you have done here is simply stunning! The painting and sculpting is outstanding - I'm totally amazed! Personal favourites are Superman, Wonder Woman, Silver Surfer, Spiderman, Nien Numb... and the Predator's Helmets are brilliant - so smooth

Thanks Masked Builder. The Brickarms are amazing! - I wouldn't be doing these shots or my recent customs if it wasn't for these fantastic prototypes. It would just be rude not to make as much use of them as is humanly possible I've just added another photo to my post above - didn't think I'd get chance to do another today.

Thanks Mr Man. It's sort of based on a mixture of these two... Obviously not bang on, but I think OK for a point-and-shoot, a window and a shaving mirror (with a plastic sleeve over it) I wish I'd turned Leia's left hand inwards though and this one...

Since getting my hands on some Brickarms SW weapons I've been intending giving this shot a go. Hopefully this will be the first in a series of pics based on SW promotional photographs from way back in 1977. I'm quite pleased with it, hope you like it too Princess Leia Promotional Shot 1977 (version 1) Princess Leia Promotional Shot 1977 (version 3) Princess Leia Promotional Shot 1977 (Version 2)

Thanks for the update and pics mrklaw, that looks like a really great day out especially with virtually the entire Imperial Army present . Did you enjoy the SW MIniland? I wouldn't worry too much about the Stormtroopers and Tie Fighter Pilots, they've probably got fans in their helmets - it's the Ewok I feel sorry for. Thanks Mr Man

What was the last movie you watched?
Praiter Yed replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Watched Jennifer's Body on TV. A little different from your average horror movie, but ultimately still quite predictable. I would class it as mildly entertaining, comparable to an average episode of Buffy. Fans of Megan Fox may enjoy it a bit more, but she does nothing for me -
Very cool Legostein. I think I mentioned in one of your earlier posts that I really like the retro styling of this project and that is still the case here. The vaporator, homestead entrance and the circular bit (never knew what that was - garage roof?) are instantly recognisable and the Sandcrawler section works well for this scene. I attempted building some of these droids myself when I bought Lego's Sandcrawler a couple of years ago (I have never been happy with TLG's treadwell) and I must say that you've done a much better job than I did. I'm particularly fond of your R1-G4 and the Mining Droid but I'm a little confused as to why you put a green dome on 'tooex'? Also I really like your purist Aunt Beru.

That's pretty amusing George G - the giant Ewok looks suitably menacing and I really like your use of tree leaves on the base . In principal I'm not a fan of pulling apart minifig legs to sit them on vehicles but I do think your speeder-bike looks nice and compact.

I've been quite looking forward to seeing these ever since you posted your custom figures in the MCW. I like them all and think they look very believable as Lego sets, but my current favourite has got to be 'The Mines of Moria'. -

Thanks Legostein. Cheers ED-209. Logan's parting is actually on the wrong side, the generic Lego male hair may be more accurate, but seeing as his hair seems to get wilder throughout the film I decided this one worked OK. The gun is by Brickarms and I got it as part of a prize here on EB You don't have to take it easy with the compliments , but seriously, It's nice to know that there's some AFOLs who appreciate these old films. I'm guessing you've grown up on the same BBC2 & Channel 4 Sci-Fi seasons as me. I decided it would be overkill to put crystals on their hands . -
Sad to see you go, but congratulations and best of luck for your new job.
