I used to stare at 4558 and its club car like crazy when I was young even when I had transferred to Technic as my Lego interest. Over the last few years I have been buying the odd Technic set (I lost all of my original Lego) such as 8275, 42009, 42030. Then my kids noticed. First came 60052. Then 60051 and 60057. Then I had a fair bit of money come and added 60050, 60098 and 10218. The kids go mental about it, the eldest tries to build them. She's 5, and the only thing stopping her from doing any of it is lack of belief and maybe 'boredom'.

I've been experimenting with Lego with my 5 year old daughter and my 3 year old son. I am a little bit of Will Ferrell because they are mine (!). To be fair I don't think my kids are old enough to be let loose with Lego because they have tidiness issues, many things get lost. But... Both have proven they can follow 60052's instructions to build the green van and my son did the forklift and my daughter did the book for the wheelbarrow carriage. I did have to use encouragement and careful guidance so that they do it themselves. My son has some behaviour issues but Lego is a great motivator for him. Right now he knows me and him might be doing something later but he doesn't know it's probably buying 60051 or 60098.

Dragging up this topic, but I've built all of these cars in LDD and extended the cabs (?) by 4 studs to have long cabs. It looks amazing in a long version, just need to save up now! Edit: Added the picture.

*sheepish* Yeah the gears on the LAs should both face inwards. -

My girlfriend again has got a decent deal. 42030 boxed and complete (but built once so not MISB) for £125. -
[HELP] Stud Dimensions
DanFraser replied to Dafgek81's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's because the physical width of a brick of 1 stud is 7.8, but there is a 0.2mm gap between brisk stacked together. 7.8 x 2 = 15.6 but as that gap and its 15.8. -
You need beams with the holes placed vertically on the top. Start off with one (or two for symmetry) across the top from the grey frame piece to the yellow pieces on top of the black double pin with hole connector between the curved frames. This will need to be reinforced further back, maybe all the way down.

Lego rendering
DanFraser replied to matt_one's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
But weirdly the CGI was done in 4:3 and the actor group shots were as well so there's lots of empty space at the sides...!- 13 replies

That section you're adding on will be built incorrectly somewhere. Rewind and try that group again because it shouldn't be making contact with the gear.

Efferman's Custom Parts
DanFraser replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This would be a great item to make. The black part of the 'shock' should be joined to the hub and the yellow part should cap with an axle cross hole going vertically. Having it this way allows for custom lengths of the shock.
