Heroica RPG- Quest #101: Into the Woods
Comrade Commander replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I am doing well thank you." Darksten says to Nolan, but trying to include Sir Armin Grackett "my name is Darksten and my friends and I are simply passing through. I hope I am not interrupting anything. I was just looking for some conversation after the long journey. Sadly, I must admit though that I know little of banking. My money is enough to keep me alive and well, and I pay my dues to the higher powers when asked, but other than that I don't dabble in the market that much. Do tell me though, do you have any financial tips for a novice like me?" -

haha, guess we should have clarified that then! But on the second night the only real person to block was the vigilante and we didn't want to do that :) Either way, that is good to know and thank you for the information --- Kind of related, but not really... I think there should be a wiki with all the possible roles outlined and a general listing of rules. Would save a lot of explanations, and allow new players to transition a lot quicker. Just my thoughts!- 47 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #101: Into the Woods
Comrade Commander replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Darksten nods good night to the Lyndia, before turning back to the Satyr "Fortunately the barkeep has made it well, and we haven't been here that long, so we got time I believe. I will make sure it one of us drinks it by the end of the night just as he suggested though. In the mean time, I am going to stroll over to those official looking gentlemen and see what they are up to. You are welcome to joing me if you like. and thank you barkeep, I think that is all I need for now." Darksten says as he raps twice on the bar top and smiles at the sniffling man. He then moves to the two gentlemen who appear to be counting something "Good evening gentlemen, mind if I join you?" -

Right, but he could have PM'd people from the grave. My understanding was that he could not post in the game room, but was free to PM as desired. Thus if he did get a positive result on the night we killed him, we would still be vulnerable- 47 replies

Excalibur TNG: Mafia School Conclusion
Comrade Commander replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Thanks for a good game Bob! Was fun to play scum. I was really shocked to see a Cop role on the evil side, but hey I will take what I can get. I was convinced Adam was the Vigilante which is why I advocated to keep him alive. The vigilante played well into the scum's plan. We really did get lucky that first night, between killing the Blocker and finding the Investigator. Just wish we could have monoplized on it a little more. One more night without having to give up the investigator slot would have been nice. On that note, in the quote above you said that it was a "wierd" to kill & block a player. Wouldn't make sense in the given situations? The first night was luck/slight confusion both killing and blocking the defender, but the second night we new that Fred was the investigator. Thus we blocked him so he didn't have the chance to scan one of us, and then killed him to ensure no more scans on following nights. If we hadn't blocked him, and he found one of us, he could have very easily just sent a blanket of PM's to everyone. Since the town knew he was good, they would trust him and we were screwed. Same with Emily, had we known she was the blocker, I woud have done the same in order to prevent her from messing up one of our moves. So this begs two questions, 1.) does a kill negate the night action? (aka: had we just killed Fred, would he have still gotten to scan someone) and 2.) can a night player block the same person twice? Probably should have clarified these earlier! haha- 47 replies

Darksten looks at the Satyr and gives a slight smile "I am going to hold onto it a bit thanks. But if you would like to have it, I can let you drink it instead. I did say I owed you a drink, and I try to be a man of my word. It also sounds like the ingredients in it will mask the taste you said you didn't like" Turning back to Lyida, he says "I might not be a world traveler, but I have also not spent my entire life in a cave. I have learned to keep my wits about me, and to watch the world closely. But I do tend to believe there is more good in the world, and sometimes people just need to trust each other. Even if it just for a night." -

OOC: you can simply just post your updated character stats with the tricorne moved to the equipment line, and your defense increased accordingly. I would recommend also working it into a role play movement like your character putting on when he goes outside, or puts it on after remembering it is in his pack, etc. -

"I believe in being prepared for anything, and when I have the option of free shelter and the ability to save cash for supplies down the road, I prefer to take it. But it is Hoang Anh's money, and I am grateful for his generosity." "I'm Darksten, and this Satyr is quite capable of standing her own in combat. We're working together right now, and fortunately it has been an adventure so far. But I can relate to you as I have had my fair share of obligations I have been trapped in." -

Darksten takes his drink and lifts it in salute to the barkeep. Something about the sobbing man began to strike a chord of sympathy and sooth Darksten's mood. "Fair enough, just choose your words more carefully next time. And thanks for the drink." "Yep, but looks like were both going to be living in luxury tonight. Gonna have to make the most of it" Darksten ponders his situation, unsure if he should move on now that he has his drink since he is not usually one for conversation, but instead decides to engage in conversation. "Sometimes things have to get a little rough, and you have to rock the boat a bit, to truly have fun in life. I am like you though, just a mercenary passing through for the night as I bounce from contract to contract" -

The long journey and late hour begin to take a toll on Darksten as he becomes frustrated with the way the conversation is going "Sir, did you not just tell my friend he could change his mind? I am confused, cause it seems like you are going against your word now..." Darksten says to the barkeep, trying to keep a level voice "And you Kianu, you need to think before you take offense." The ranger states as he turns to the young girl, making an effort not raise his tone but the frustration still leaks through "You have proven you can stand your ground, that is for sure, but I am certain you would fight better tomorrow if you were well rested after a sound night's sleep. Seeing as you are the only one of us who does not have a bedroll, and the cold hard ground is far from comfortable, I suggest you think long and hard about sleeping in the common room. You are welcome to do what you want though" Hoping his point is made, Darksten turns back to the barkeep "Give me a water and a hurricane to go" He says while plopping down the required coins (31-17=14) As he waits for the beverages to be served, he takes a breath to regain his posture and turns to the female sitting at the counter and says in a quieter tone: "You said the barkeep is usually upset like that?" -

"Could you tell me a little more about this hurricane sir?" Darksten says to the barkeep. "And knight, thanks, but I am fine sleeping in the common room as well. You should save the gold you have earned for equipment you might need later on. The lady should use a room though, and unless the other ranger gets a bedroll, he might need one too" Darksten says to Hoang Anh, recognizing appreciatively that the knight was trying to be more a team player. -

Ooc: my bad, I didn't think an inn would heal fully unless you had a bedroll. Guess I should have thought about it more and realized they would provide the bed! Haha! On an other note, does the tricorne provide 1sp or 2sp? In the initial drop it said 1sp but in his inventory it says 2sp. Darksten steps into the warm Inn and is happy to see it isn't too crowded. He never found peace in crowded establishments. With a quick look around, he decides it's best to start at the bar "Kianu, you can stick by me if you want. I'll buy you a drink to commemorate your first battle with Heroica" The ranger says to the young girl "They must have something here you are of age to consume" As Darksten approaches the bar, the music flouts through his mind. It is weird, but he cannot help but conjure a world burned by war, the survivors struggling to recover from the disastrous fallout. It is a dark image, and he quickly tries to wipe it from his mind. Silently he nods to the fellow sitting at the bar and speaks to the pale fellow serving drinks "Good evening, what are you offering today sir?" -
Excalibur TNG: Mafia School Day Three
Comrade Commander replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Jeff, I did not say I was willing to throw a town member under the bus to prove a point. I said I stuck with one unknown over another to prove a point. We had no evidence either way. It was not till further conversations on the following days did I come to believe Adam was actually working for the town. In the interest of full disclosure I have now been contacted by Adam to discuss today's votes. Pretty much made it obvious to me I am not going to see tomorrow. Today though I am going to VOTE: WARREN (Lego3364) I have presented some evidence along with the rest of you, but the biggest part was the vote yesterday. He was lined up to vote with Greg, just like me, and then abandoned ship at the last minute. This could be evidence of him not trying to get nailed down by the voting pattern. Add that to his defense of Greg and the inconsistent manner in which he has made conversations in some of his posts, that makes him a candidate for scum -

OOC: Sorry guys, I would have adjusted the battle order but I got tied up at work. This coming week I might have some gaps between posts, but I should make it on at least every 24hrs. Just a heads up (Also, my attack power should be 11 now right?) Darksten looks down at the limp forms of the highway men and has a spark of pride for his party. Somehow battling against men were not as mentally difficult as he had thought it would be, yet he knew he might feel differently when the adreneline wore off. Once the loot was collected, he divided everything up in front of the party. "I am open for suggestions & requests, but this is what I was thinking. Also, Deus, if that Tricorn is not your style, I can let you borrow this safety blanket of mine.. just don't laugh" Hoang Anh: 30 Gold Darksten: 5 Gold, Mead Deus: 20 Gold, Scruffy tricorn Kianu: 5 Gold, Tonic "Kianu, you did well also. Taking out that first fighter and sticking in there when it was difficult. Can you just do us one more favor and heal Deus's wounds please?" -
Excalibur TNG: Mafia School Day Three
Comrade Commander replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I had a feeling I would be the target today given how the voting count ended yesterday. Being the only person to vote with a known scum does make me look pretty bad. But here is my point of view. First off, I have not had any communications with Fred outside of this room. No one has PM'd me, and to be honest I wouldn't believe them to be innocent and on my side until they were 100% confirmed town. It is just my nature. It is so easy to hide behind words, and for the scum especially, it benefits them to be communicating in private where not everyone can pick apart their posts. This is why from the first day we have all been telling people to voice their opinions, and state what evidence they have, in the public so that we can all work on this problem together. Now, that brings me to why I voted for the people I did. During the respective days I tried to make it clear why I voted for people, and my posts seem to have since been reposted here so you can see them transparently. But to rehash, I offer the following. On day one it was a crap shoot. We all admitted it. We knew nothing, but were bound by the rules of the game to vote. So I voted to make a point. It was a procedural vote to highlight a tactic that could be used by scum to munipulate words and paint people as evil. I wanted to put an end to it (thank you everyone who took my advice and has since annotated changes more clearly). I made my vote and stuck to it. There was no point in changing it at the end of the day since the evidence on other people was just as thin. My vote on Adam turned into a bandwagon probably because people didn't want to be the the first to vote, and didn't have any other evidence to make other claims. When I called the bandwagon out, I highlighted that people were just jumping on so that other people didn't think there was some magic evidence and that the debate was still open for discussion. At the end of the day though. I kept my vote on Adam because either vote was a shot in the dark and at least I would make a message to the scum by fighting against misleading quotes. To be honest, it is pretty clear Adam is town now, but not knowing who the scum was, I still think I made the better choice of the two candidates presented. On day two I made a vote for Emma. This is the vote that will probably kill me today. 20/20 hind-sight is always a pain, but I still can't figure the logic behind it all. I might have blinders on, and haven't been able to cehck the game as much, so the walls of text I get can blur together, but the bottom line is that I saw the main argument against Greg being that he posted too close to Isaac. Yet, as I am pretty sure I mentioned during my arguement during the 2nd day, he posted first. The logical thing would be for the scum to post second in an attempt to bandwagon & point blame. So from my perspective Isaac should have been the scum, yet he had been confirmed as good. This confused things further for me. It is also hard for me to wrap my head around people coordinating that early in the game when there is so little known and so much at risk. Why would someone expose themselves that much, without any back up? Since I didn't agree with the evidence, and I saw Emma as acting fishy, I stated my case and voted for her. I felt I had more solid evidence, and a lot of people agreed with what I had to say. That is why many of you were on the fence for a while (she even made Jeff's scum list as a probable scum). I made my case from the evidence I had presented in this room. Unfortunately just turns out I was on the wrong side of the fence at the end of the day. As for today, well it is fine if you believe I am scum. I obviously would hope otherwise, and would be happy to expand further on anything and/or answer questions (sorry if I missed any in the mass amounts of posts since I last logged on). My views on scum are really not as flushed out at this time, but right now I am thinking... - Warren: had an a random jump in votes yesterday. He went from siding with Greg (and me) to voting for a completely random player. Perhaps he did not want to be seen voting with a scum player, but did not want to cast a vote against his friend either? - Calanon: he has been quiet. Not a good enough reason to lynch him as I have made clear multiple times, but he has bounced in and out at convenient times. Has he made any arguements? I have seen him post a few times, and he weakly defended himself at the start of this day, but he just doesn't seem to be on the radar. I haven't had a chance to look back through everything yet, but I think it is worth a second look as well (if just to cover all our bases) I would also just like clarification as to whether Jeff actually has had PM converations with people, or just claimed to in order to get Adam to post? That part is confusing to me -

Comrade Commander replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Inconsistent might be the wrong word, but I cannot think of one that describes what I want to say. The bottom line, yesterday I think you posted twice, could have been one or two more times, but either way you didn't add much to the conversation. It seemed you were more waiting for the tide, and then just went with the flow. It is a fact others called out, and something even yourself mentioned while defending yourself. I understand not having a lot of time to post, etc. but you said you didn't have a lot to contribute. I would have at least expected you to ask questions, clarify facts, share which way you are leaning. As others pointed out early on I the game, we need to talk things through. Even if you want to post once, just to cast a vote, it should be a longer post with justifications, etc. I am on my mobile, so will do a little more digging later but just wanted to respond while I am on -

Darksten smiles as he sees his arrow pierce it's target from the close range, followed up by the successful power hit issued to Kianu's target "Well Kianu, you just out performed Heroicans by taking out the first target! Perhaps you could go show the knight a thing or two..." Comrade Commander replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Well, I am happy we got a a scum, but I guess I ended up on the wrong side of the vote. I know that makes me look suspicious, especially since the only known scum voted with me, but I hope you see my reasoning behind my voting. Majority of you also felt Emma was scummy so I hope you will keep that in mind. Unfortunately I was not privy to the back room conversations, and Fred's hunches, so I couldn't work together with everyone. I had to go with what I saw, and it just blows my mind that Isaac would trust someone blindly on the first day. Sadly it looks like the scum are good at manipulating people. As for voting today, well Timothy still seems scummy due to his inconsistent conversations with us, and Warren strikes me as odd due to his last minute jump from Emma yesterday. Just struck me as weird -

ooc: haha, no worries. Makes it exciting. (Also, I hope this works. Haha) Darksten hears the midget callout to him and scoffs for a second but thinks "could help my aim" The ranger decides to make a point and trust in his skills, or at the very least his armor. He advances towards the small man until he towers over him, leveling an arrow at his face. Revised Suggested battle order: Hoang Anh (Attack Richard Lionheart from front) Darksten (Attack Sully the Stabber from the FRONT) Kianu (Attack Paula Madoka from front) Deus Spiranius (Attack Honest John from back) -
Shhhh! I was thinking that but didn't want to say it out loud. Haha It is certainly different from last quest's rolls. Though Hoanganhboe seems to always be unlucky with bad rolls both quests.

ooc: This is the complete opposite of my last quest where I had Triple Shot after Triple Shot and only missed/got hit a few times the entire quest! haha Darksten begins to grow frustrated as he watches another arrow go wide and leaving himself open to attack. "What is happening?!" Darksten thinks to himself as he thanks fate for making him purchase the new hide. At least the new kid was making hits, and Darksten wasn't about to be shown up Suggested battle order (repeat from last time): Hoang Anh (Attack Richard Lionheart from front) Darksten (Attack Sully the Stabber from the back) Kianu (Attack Paula Madoka from front) Deus Spiranius (Attack Honest John from back) -
Ambassador Project - Defining the Factions
Comrade Commander replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Here are my suggestions. Since it seems everyone is more interested in the Merchant's and not so sold on the other two factions, perhaps we can tweak the factions a little to make everything work better. The Merchants: - Consider the scenario to be similar to the American colony prior to the Revolutionary War. The Merchants are a carribean colony of some nation, but they are tired of being oppressed, being told what they can/cannot sell, and watching all their profits going directly to the main land. Some merchants support the main land, while others want to see change and are prepared to take action to win independence (or make a profit) - The item(s) they are trading would have to be distinct in my opinion. More than just a couple of 1x1 blocks. I would also say there should only be one traded good, with varying quantities in different size sets (ie: 1 coconut in small sets; 6 in large, etc). As for what that item is, I am not 100% sure. I cannot help but think fod stuff, like fish/bread/etc but that doesn't have a New World feel. Will ponder some more. Coins/gems should also be included in the cargo to give more tempting target for pirates - I like the idea of bright colors for merchant clothes, with well kept buildings and ships. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Smugglers (rename to blockade runners, revolutionaries, rebels, etc) - These aren't as exciting as pirates/other factions in my opinion. Cunning and stealth just don't translate well into Lego play. Say what you want about Han Solo, but most of what made him a good smuggler on screen was developed through means that cannot be communicated in bricks [ie: tense situations, whitty remarks, etc]. Also notice that besides getting a few people out of a tight situation, they never showed him actually smuggling goods, instead they focused on him battling the Empire with pistols and dogfights. - That being said, there are opportunities to make this faction the main play feature that ties everything together. ---- 1.) We make every merchant ship/building/etc have a hidden compartment, but instructions put nothing into it, leaving it to be filled by goods from smuggler sets. (Builder decides whether the merchant support the loyalists or the rebels) ---- 2.) We make the smugglers have unique items to sell. It should be something that would be cool to have, but normally frowned upon to own (ie: islander vodoo dolls, mystical crystal skulls, rare animals, etc.) Would make these the key treasures of the whole series, and give reason for the smugglers to want to get past the blockade/guards. We also maybe consider having them smuggle in/out weapons. ---- 3.) We drop the cunning aspect and arm the smugglers like pirates. The merchant hiding holes, and maybe a few smugglers with two sided heads to mimic disguises (as much as I HATE two sided heads) would act as the cunning/secrecy part of the faction. By dropping the cunning/secrecy thing by giving the smugglers armed boats, weapons, etc we can make them equiped to stand against the imperial troops without seeming too out of place. Sure some sets can be lightly armed, but the tweaking of the theme into a revolution aspect allows the builder to decide how they are going to fight the war. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Haven Guard: - I like the name from the vantage point of regular soldiers guarding a port against normal smugglers, illegal immigrants, etc. But under the revolution guise it would not sound as good. Perhaps renaming to something along the lines of Colonial Guard, or something like that would be more fitting. - From the Revolution perspective, these would be the Main Land's troops sent to enforce rules and guard the interests of the crown. How they do that would be up to the builder ---- Still justifies including soldiers in some Merchant sets, and opens up the ability for more militaristic feel vs the Imperial Armada sort of sets where it is more miniture guard houses. - I prefer more muted, natural colors for the troops. I am color blind so I cannot tell you which color of the models looks better, but I prefer the color of the far left one in the last post by Mister Phes. I just don't the design. Perhaps something along these lines? They are soldiers from Austria circa 1700's so timely. I prefer the middle one, then the one on the far left, but the one on the right is more along the lines of the imperial soldiers we have seen so far Anyways, those are just my thoughts -

Emma, your theory about the bandwagon forming to save Adam is interesting. I am sceptical because I don't think that many scum would have jumped on that early/fast if they knew he was scum, but you are right that it certainly adds a new twist to the plot. However, the reason I am voting for you today is more because of the way you post. We have discussed in detail throughout this day what makes you appear guilty, and from my perspective, you seem to have more evidence against you. Even in the conversation above you come across cold and calculating. Trying to subtly push Adam into the conversation. I might be starting to get horseblinders on with the reading & re-reading I am doing to make some analysis, and I will admit a lot of the evidence on both sides is sketchy, but we have to go with what we are given and that is just my gut.- 144 replies
