  1. Darksten took in the depressing scene and then began to size up the situation. Clearly the worms were not right here munching away as they had been told, but something told Darksten they weren't far away "Alright, we should move fast and with purpose. Who knows where those worms are, and if they are anything like those spiders, they can pop out at anytime. Crowley, you take a look at those spice racks and bucket over there and tell me if you recognize anything. Be careful though. Who know what they actually are as it seems these people are make use of anything they can. Hoang Anh, you have been pretty quiet so far. Any suggestions? If not, I recommend you take a look at that pantry. I bet the bugs are in there munching away, so keep your weapon close and don't let down your guard. Darksten then moves methodically to the center island, checking the rusty cauldron and nearby pots to see if anything is inside them. He keeps his weapon ready though, and an eye on the pantry, just incase something is in there
  2. Darksten stuffs the utility knife into his belt as he nods to the bugs in appreciation "Thanks, we will look into it" As he turns to walk towards the stairs, he looks at Crowley and Hoang Anh in a way that signals... crush them
  3. Darksten watches as the knight loots the barrels. When only a single smoke bomb, and a sword are produced, Darksten is slightly disappointed. But then he remembers that in this place, it was lucky to find anything of value at all. The clerics words ring in his ears... "Leftovers" "Well those will serve you well knight. Perhaps you could pass me one of those smaller knives, preferably on that is still fairly sharp. I was never good at wielding one in combat, but a knife can serve a million other uses." Darkstem then turns to the cleric "You have kept us alive so far, so I have no complaints about you capabilities" Then finally, Darksten turns back to the bugs "Now, these worms downstairs, how many of them are down there? We might be able to clear them out for you"
  4. As the bugs quiver before him, Darksten takes a moment to converse with Crowely. He keeps an eye on the bugs however to make sure none try to scamper away "Wolfgang huh? hmm from what I hear, they aren't really in the market of building homes for the poor...so this must have been an old base of operation for them, or something like that. I bet they probably left when they got enough revenue to move into something bigger. Keep your eyes open for anything that looks out of the ordinary, there might be some hidden things around here as I doubt they would have kept their enterprise in the open. What made you leave your family to work for the syndicate?"
  5. Darksten hears the cleric speak and mumbles to himself: "Well that is bloody brilliant. Convenient they label everything..." He then turns his attention back to the bugs and begins to click and shake in a way only the bugs understand "Giant? Have you not seen the large bugs passing through here? Certainly you have heard them skitter around downstairs at the very least..."
  6. Darksten takes in his meager surroundings, and waits for his companions to speak. When they do not, he speaks up "Perhaps Hoang Anh should search the barrels in the corner, then I recommend he take a look at those swords/knives since he would know sharp tools best. I will look at that pile of bugs on the table (I assume that is what the dark brick is). Crowley, you should go to the top of the stairs and let us know what you see down there. Then keep watch please."
  7. Darksten begins moving the group to the unused door "We best be moving before the bugs can regroup"
  8. "Thanks, shall we get moving?" Darksten says as he places the bottle in his pack Ooc: is there another door in this rooms other than the one we came in?
  9. Darksten accepts the vile of venom, and as Hoang Anh adds his large shadow to the darkness covering the second pile of bugs, Darksten turns to them... "I am waiting, do you have any information to share? Where are your larger counterparts coming from? Where is the kitchen full of food?"
  10. "Go ahead and stomp Crowley, then do me a favor and pass me that empty glass bottle if you don't mind" Darksten then turns to the mass of insects at his feet "Do you want to be stomped out as well, or do you have something of value to share?"
  11. Sub-Theme Suggestion: Privateers Faction #1: Privateers Sometimes pirates are the good guys. With Letters or Marque, the rich and the poor sail the seas seaking fame and fortune. --A large set could be a Privateer vessel, armed with cannon and steal, but manned by a crew which is more civilalized and captained by a weathly lord (general feel would be similar to the Imperial Flagship, but with a civilian crew and neutral colors). --A medium set would be a smaller, more rundown ship manned by a rougher looking crew. This way customers could choose between the underdogs or the privelaged. --Small sets would be outposts similar to Sabre Island where the privateers can wait and look for the next target of opportunity Faction #2: The East Brick Trading Co. Established by one of the leading nations in the world, the company has become the target of privateers from a rival civilization. --Large set would be a port/harbor with a dock and warehouse. Little armament would be present outside of a few company soldiers. --Medium sets would include a court to try pirates/privateers, and merchant ships (unarmed or lightly armed) --Small sets would consist of exotic locations for new trading goods (merchants in pineapple grove, jungle, beach, etc)
  12. Darksten looks up and checks the ceiling for the source of the leak, and to make sure there were no hidden enemies waiting to pounce. (If no enemies on the ceiling) "Hoang Anh, again your armor is best used protecting you from sudden attack. I suggest you inspect the crates by the door" Darksten says to the now quiet knight "Crowley, if you don't mind, could you make sure our wounds are healed and then search all of the barrels by the beds and let us know if there is anything useful in that bottle and cup?" Darksten then goes over and checks all the ragged pillows for bugs or stashed items, and also nudges the odd brick by the second bed from the left in the first row
  13. "Alrighty then, well I would prefer to clear out the first floor and secure the kitchen, but since we are already up here, let's continue through that unused door. That way we can flush all the insects downstairs and outside, without worrying too much about them doubling back on us. But first..." Darksten said as he strolled over to the fireplace and nudged the lone log with his boot in an effort to see if anything was under or behind it. He then made sure his companions were watching his back, and hit the side of the chimney roughly with the side of his fist before pausing to see if anything else moved inside, or fell out of, the tall pipe.
  14. "You turned left or right at the foyer? We turned right, so if you went left we covered different ground. But it sounds like you went right as well." Darksten said with a bit of confusion and skepticism "Either way, how long were you stuck here?" ooc: confirm there are two doors in this room please. The one we came in and another...
  15. "It's nice to meet you. You work for the Syndicate huh? Don't think I have heard of them before... but then again I am fairly new to the city" Darksten says to the cleric "Did you come here on official orders, or were you looking to help the locals on your own accord? After all, before moving on, it would probably be good to quickly hear about your hunt prior to us finding you. How long have you been here, and how much of this shelter did you explore before being ambushed?" OOC: Crowley should have the grand potion and not I. Also, are we to assume that the rug and couch in the room were searched fully for the small bug infestations prior to us finding the matches?
  16. I like the idea that was mentioned of having one group of colonialists (armada, blue, red), one group of pirates, and one group of islanders. This would allow for good cross pollination because islander tribes could be hired as scouts, colonists could turn to crime, and pirates could be shipwrecked with islanders. Etc, etc, etc... Overall, lots of options for everyone to get what they like without limiting it to red vs blue. Perhaps the game could also work around a currency system where you get gold for building/doing certain things, and then you can convert that into new things to build. Kinda like a tech tree in a videogame. So, for example, to start a player could have enough gold to build either a ship or a dock, if they build a ship, they they have the option of building a diagram of that ship attacking another for plunder, or trading in an exotic port. That earns them gold, which allows them to unlock a new ship or a port. Etc. Starting with a dock allows you to show a fishing company, or a small trading company. Then from there they could build a warehouse, or a store. Eventually a player could have a vast fleet sailing around the world, or a large trading port full of exotic wonders. Or simply they could have an even mix as the tech tree would inter mingle and allow multiple options for different buildings. Then for time to time the guild leaders will throw challenges out there like who can build the most exotic treasure, etc for additional gold. Gives people the chance to control their own fate, while also allowing the game world to grow and progress through time. It is kinda similar to some of GoH recent attempts, just slightly different mechanic (Also, I am happy we are having this conversation because I see it is influencing GoH They are changing things slightly to adapt to our comments, and I think it is making it more understandable. Thanks!)
  17. Darksten looks at the pile of loot hastily placed in front of him by Hoang Anh. After silently contemplating it, he picks up the vile of potion with 5 pieces of gold and walks over to the stranger. "You fought well, and now that it is behind us, I agree that it is time for introductions. My name's Darksten, and what is yours?" He asks as he hands over the potion and gold OOC: I will keep 15 gold and give the grand potion and 5 gold to the stranger
  18. "Finally" Darksten mumbles as the first insect hits the ground "Knight, you and the cleric close in and work on finishing off that last spider. There is no point in wasting anymore of this man's Ether right now." "I am going to target its string and hopefully we can get this done and over with" Suggested Battle Order Hoang Anh Darksten (Attack String B, back) ??? (Attack Spider B, front)
  19. "Knight, we all don't have the luxury of armor and thus tend to get wounded a little more in battle. I need the cleric to heal me now, before I attack again, or I might not survive another bite." "How about you just keep slashing away, and let me handle everything else?"
  20. Darksten's shot skims past the spider, who in turn uses the back draft to swing forward and sink its cold fangs into the ranger's shoulder. Just as the cold frost begins to spread, gravity and momentum pulls the spider back and leaves Darksten with a wound that could have been far worse "Aye Cleric, it is good to know you can heal us. Since you are back here already, perhaps you could look after my wound?" Darksten then loads another bolt, and sends it chasing after the spider who just attacked him (Darksten attacks Northern Spider A from the Back) Suggested Battle Order Hoang Anh ??? Darksten OOC: Also, I think Hoang Anh should be attacking from the front (doesn't impact from the results, just wanted to clarify) and we will start annotating our suggested row for our Cleric friend as well.
  21. "Right, but assuming we make standard hits, it will take two shots to break the thread. Where as the stranger and I can defeat this spider this turn, then shift to defeat your spider next. Attacking the threads now just delays the battle. Also, the battle order will be as I mentioned above. Since I could potentially knock the spider out with a critical hit, the stranger should follow me so that he could then shift his attack to your spider if his first target is no longer alive. You have to fight smarter, not harder young knight"
  22. Darksten has his next bolt loaded by the time his first shot pierces the large bug. Though he hears it cry out, he chooses not to respond in an effort to regulate his breathing. He then repeats, firing another bolt at Northern spider A from the back "Ignore the spider threads now!" Darksten shouts as he reloads "Our new companion should target the same spider as me, unless I manage to kill it. Then he should target your spider" Suggested battle order: Hoang Anh Darksten ???
  23. Darksten stands in the back and lets a bolt fly towards Northern Spider A "Knight, let the stranger(???) handle the strings. They're going to take two hits either way, and you would be wasting effort which should be directed at the stronger spiders. Plus your armor is going to protect from attack, while him and I are vulnerable. " "Also, the stranger will attack before me in the battle order and he will attack string A Not only is he able to absorb more free hits (we shouldn't need him too), if he takes down the string on a special hit before me, he is going to do more damage to the spider which I can then follow up on.
  24. So one of the reasons I don't like Guilds of Historica is that I cannot compete with the builders there. I don't have the skill, or the bricks, to make a halfway decent build when stacked against the massive castles that are created. Since I am a landlubber, and this forum is more geared towards building fleets, my builds tend to be more on an equal setting IMO. I understand that one point of all this is to grow and improve us as builders, but I just want to have fun and I don't want people to critique my build just because it does not have a refined border/base (which seems to pretty much be required now in the historic forum). So I think two games would work well because it would allow the master land builders to grow empires in GoH, and let the less experienced hone skills here, while the master ship builders can own the seas here, and the less experienced ship builders improve their skills in GoH. This forum just has a better appreciation for simpler MOCs that still tell a good story, so the game would have a different atmosphere. Edit: Don't get me wrong, I still like GoH, I just hope you get my point. Compare the land MOCs in this forum vs the land MOCs in GoH.
  25. Darksten whispers to the trapped man: "We will look for your matches and get you out of there, but you have not told us where the spiders went?" Darksten then turns to the knight and whispers: "Your armor will better protect you from any surprise attacks from hidden bugs. I suggest you search while I cover you with my crossbow. Start by searching on/under the rug for the matches and any bugs, then look under and behind the couch, as well as under and between all the cushions. I bet you will find the matches in one of those two spots if this gentlemen actually lost it during the ambush. From what I know about bugs, they like dark spaces, and there are only so many spots a bug the size of our hand can hide, so I am betting the spiders went up the chimney. The only door I see is the one we just came in, and the insects outside made no mention of the larger bugs leaving. So after you find the matches, we will release this gentlemen and reasses the situation, but I am thinking we light the log in the fireplace and smoke the spiders out. Hopefully they take some damage from the heat and fire on the way out too."
