Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
Comrade Commander replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Darksten looks at the mob of monsters in front of him. There were plenty of targets, and some which could cause a dent or two. Yet his party seemed focused on one. He quickly checked the vials of aide he had brought with him, and uttered a short curse for not having bought more to compensate for how it appeared these battles would be fought. "You don't think it would be smarter to spread the damage?" As Darksten waits for the reply he watches the mob shuffle closer and closer. He knew there was a point where he wouldn't be able to wait much longer. The ranger quickly decides: If no response is given, Darksten would target the Rat King from the back row If the ok to spread the damage is given by the team lead, Darksten would target Zombie B from the back row -

As Darksten follows the party to the first field, he cannot help but smirk at the rogues cheesy joke. "This is going to be a long trip" he thinks to himself, knowing it would probably be at least a little entertaining. "Well Don Quixote, hopefully you are right" -

Darksten quickly joins his companions at the field, knowing his discussion a the hall and trip to the market had put him behind. As he gets caught up on the new rules and regulations, he also eyes the prizes. It seemed like a steep curve to get something he wanted, but he was willing to give it a shot. "Well gents, do you want to try 1,2 and 12 first?" OOC: I have updated my stats as well but I am not sure how to do the fancy "spoiler" tag. The link in my signature should have the most up to date info though. -
Darksten briskly walks into the market and makes his first stop at the "Toolshed" "I will take one of everything, but the bedroll" The human says down to the gnome. 1037-10-20-30-40-50 = 887 gold Darksten then walks to the "Potion Shack" and speaks to the bubbly girl working the counter "I would like two Pheonix Essensence, two smelling salts, two Nostrum, ten potions, and five remedies please" 887 - (50x2) - (25x2) - (35-2) - (10x10) - (5x10) = 517 gold Darksten hesitates as he hands over the large pile of gold, but he knew how beneficial the supplies had been on his last battle. He quickly pocketed the small vials and walked away before he changed his mind. With his new pile of supplies he left the market for the Fields of Glory

Through the years of listening to the wild hogs he had encountered, Darksten heard the pig squeel about riches and glory. It was all the ranger needed to convince him he should attend. "I will meet you there then" With a curt nod to the pig, and with little thought for those he was leaving behind, he left the hall to stop at the Market before entering the Fields of Glory

Darksten sees his name added to the roster of those chosen for the Fields of Glory. Taken aback he looked at the initial sign up sheet still stuck below. The quick line he had drawn through his name was more faded than he remembered. "Perhaps it is fate?" He thought to himself, knowing he didn't really believe it. Approaching the man who seemed to be the Quest Master of the Fields, he said "I had intended to stay in the hall and try my hand at one of these other quests. However, if you require me to balance a team... I am happy to accept the challenge." ooc edit: Just to clarify, I had scratched my name off the list so would understand if I get replaced by a new player. But if you want me to balance out a team, I am happy to fight the good fight and participate. I just don't want to take it away from one of the other players who had signed up if you are still considering them.

Darksten sees the two new quests get posted and quickly excuses himself from his companions to investigate. His heavy coin purse doesn't feel as heavy as it once did when he sees the 300 gold reward. Quickly he signs up for quest #119. The thought of incense didn't really spark his fancy so he didn't sign up for the other posted quest. Upon consideration however, Darksten scratches his name off of the Fields of Glory roster so he didn't miss the chance for a real reward.

I will be honest and say that when I saw the first picture of the front I was like "meh" but then I saw the following pictures and it really grew on me! The slanted roof is great and the interior details are good! If I might suggest just adding some additional details to the front (trees, bushes, etc) to make it pop a little more. I am looking forward to seeing this develop!

"And same with you" Darksten says to the veteran hero. "I hope it serves you well" Once Darksten had returned to his usual booth, he was joined by another hero.Unaccostumed to so much attention, Darksten felt out of place. But he soon decided he must have made some sort of impression on this guild to start being accepted like this. "I am not sure the origins of this cape." Darksten responds to En Sabah Nur. "I was fortunate enough to aquire it from that elf that sets up shop in the market. My original belongings were more fit for hunting than to be used in combat. I quickly learned I needed something with a little more durability." With a pause to reflect, Darksten then says "Thank god I didn't have to travese a barren sand pit to aquire it. I prefer the lush forest any day."
-
Darksten is shocked as the senior veteran approaches him, and then his eyes bulge as the pile of loot is brought forward. He was tempted to ask for more, but some how he knew this amount was just right. He wasn't going to use the lump of adamamtite anyways... "Done" He says as he hands over the shard and takes the offered bounty

OOC: I am level 12.5, just hadn't updated my stats from the last quest. Fixed now, thanks! Darksten sees the half-elf move to the quest board and pin something there. Out of curiosity, the ranger repacks his belongings and moves to investigate. Seeing the offer to quest, he pauses thinking about what it would mean to take a break from the "paying" jobs normally offered. With a shrug he concludes that it couldn't hurt, and scribbles his name to the roster for the Field of Glory as well

Heroica RPG - Quest Masters' Lounge
Comrade Commander replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Just wanted to add my thoughts on Quest #106 Provisionary, thank you very much for hosting this quest! To be honest I wouldn't say it was my favorite, but I had a decent time overall. Sets: I think there were some nice sets in this quest with some interesting building techniques! That being said, I felt there wasn't much story wise in them. No major crates or anything we could search and/or hidden secrets (that I knew of). The first few we tried looking around but we were pretty much shot down. Plot: The plot was pretty straight forward. Get package from point A to point B, and avoid the bad guys in the middle. That being said, I felt we didn't have an opportunity to really flush it out. For example, the first stop had the break in (which hindsight was the elves) but we couldn't really do any investigating. In my opinion we didn't have very many opportunities to ask questions (I will get into that a bit below). I also wish we had the opporunity to learn more about the elves. Having the final boss just teleport away gave us no opportunity to interrogate him, and left a hole in the story. I would recommend having the NPCs respond to questions with more than just one liners in an effort to flush things out a little more. Battles: Every battle but the last I think was a good battle. We survived the last battle, but it really could have gone the wrong way too. I would be fine with instant death, but then you threw in the negative effects and made him OP as well. Without downing a bunch of consumables, it was a very difficult battle and even still Deus was KO'd in one hit twice. I don't mind a challenge, but I felt that was a bit much. Just me though Pacing: This is where the quest struggled I think. Like I mentioned, the NPCs responded with one liners that gave us little to work with. At one point we had to wait 12+ hrs for one NPC to respond to another NPC because the one liner we were given wasn't directed at any of the players. Had the dialogue flowed better I think I would have enjoyed it more. Along these lines, I felt we were kind of along for the ride. In the first stop in particular I had this thing where I was holding onto the info about the break in to get the owners un-biased opinion first and then reveal it to him to see his change. However it was like we were given one or two chances to talk and then just auto moved on. A couple of times I felt it was a time limit verses the natural flow of the round. I also don't think the quest should have taken as long as it did, but I am still new enough to not know for sure. Players: We all prefered to interact more with the NPCs rather than carry on roleplay with each other, but that is fine. I liked all of your characters, so I cannot say much negative here. LordoftheNoobs: I like you play style as I think it is very similar to mine. Grimwald is a good character, but didn't really seem to take advantage of the leadership role. Lego Spy: Deus is a good player as well, but I would love to see more roleplay from you. Flush out posts a little more, even if it is just to add a few descriptive flairs. Just helps paint a better picture in my mind. Overall: There were some highs and lows to this quest but despite what looks like a negative rant above, I did enjoy myself! It is always fun trying to think through things, and I am still getting used to this game so it was a good learning experience. I liked the blackjack experience, and I think I am going to steal some of the building techniques too. haha! Thanks again for hosting and I would be happy to clarify and/or expand further if needed. -
Darksten walks into the hall, takes a look at the measly quest options and signs up for quest #118 anyways . He then takes his usual seat at the booth in the back, starting to sort through his supplies

I vote to continue the project. Lego has shown interest in the Pirate theme with the on again, off again relationship it has with the series including this recent batch that is going to be released. So perhaps they will continue to listen to our suggestions. That being said, I can see why they are ending the classic-pirates ambassador. There is no doubt that this site has dried up a bit, with many of the good builders going inactive and/or focusing on GoH or other projects. There are no projects really like that in this forum, which is why we excited to see " Guild of the Brick Seas." Even another tournament of retribution would be appreciated to spark some activity and keep the eye of Lego on the pirate coast...

Darksten watches as his fellow ranger falls to the elf. Frustrated at the progression of the battle, he uses a Phoenix essences on Deus before firing another shot at the assassin Ooc: Grimwald, I would recommend moving me up in the battle order so Deus can still take an action this round- 235 replies

ooc: I am not sure if it makes a huge deal, but I would take potion first and then cast the spell. Would hate for you to get KO by damage the first strike on a bad roll. Just my two cents- 235 replies

As Darksten sees the rising chest of his employer, his motivation is renewed. Licking his wounds he began to restratagize. To this point of his questing career he had relied on fate, now he might just need to make his own luck... Darksten downs a nostrum and stands in the back as he launches an arrow at the elf Ooc: I am not complaining, but I don't think I should have a remedy or smelling salt in my possession any more. Hopefully I just won't need them any more! Haha.- 235 replies
