Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
You see a pair of horses approach Bric'Bay Fort on the road, coming from the direction of Bric'Lin. Recognizing the colors of one of the riders, you order the Lion Crossbowmen manning the gatehouse raise the portcullis, and you see the two horses thunder into the courtyard, still dripping wet from their swim through the river. You notice that one is the Pikeman who took Spag back to Eubric and that the other is a hero you haven't met before. "Sirs, I have returned with a hero to replace Barbarian Bitterstalk! This is Helm Delvergrow, a Level 1 Barbarian." HELM DELVERGROW HAS JOINED THE PARTY! (example statement of action: "Hiyaaaaaa Hwacha targets enemies in front of the East Wall") Explosive arrows have a 50% chance per target of exploding violently and imparting a Burning effect, causing the target to lose 2 Health per Round until the fire is extinguished. Note: The Hiyaaaaaa Hwacha must take a Turn after each attack to reload - this need can be eliminated by assigning a second Operator to the weapon. Slice N Dice Blockade Requires one operator Level: 1/15 Health: 15/15 Ammunition: Makeshift Swords Note: The Slice N Dice Blockade starts at Level 1, and gains 1 Level for every Turn a hero operates it, with a maximum possible Level of 15. If possible, the Blockade loses a Level for every Turn no one operates it. The Slice N Dice Blockade cannot move, and can only melee attack. Reconstructed Elven Onager Requires one operator Level: 5 Health: 12/12 Ammunition: Stones "Excellent. Welcome to Bric'Bay Fort, Barbarian Delvergrow. I am Sir Lawrence, the commander of the Lion Knights in this fort. As I'm sure you have heard during your travel here, we are being attacked by Brobric Elves. We expect the next to be the final wave. Here's a map of the fort: "As you can see, each wall or tower has a certain amount of Health. Towers and walls will only be damaged by elven siege weapons, unless otherwise noted in an elf's stats. If a wall or tower falls to 0 HP, it will collapse and the fort will be breached, allowing elves to pass through the remains of the wall or tower and into the fort. If the fort is breached and all heroes are Knocked Out, the fort will be lost and the Quest will have failed. "To increase the chances of our survival, your fellow heroes have been building booby traps, siege weapons, and defenses, such as these spikes in the ground placed at the orders of Sir Alexandre, these Skeleton Decoys assembled by Mage Emorith, these barriers of hay on the walls placed by Ranger Harkenshire, and this trebuchet designed by Mage Regulus. Your task when you are not in the middle of a battle is to maintain and improve the defenses. We have a wide variety of everyday items available for you to work with, such as wood and rope. You can see that, as we speak, Ranger Harkenshire and Mage Regulus are working on a chu-ko-nu and a polybolos, respectively. Don't be afraid to think wild and outside-the-box - I hear the Voice in the Sky likes to see such things, and may reward you with XP. "Good luck, heroes!" -
Nervousness in the first tough battle, maybe. Go back and read the Direwolf Battle from Quest 1. My party and I was exactly like that. By the way, sorry for taking away your chess partner, Bricksandparts.
-
You see the Lion Pikeman enter the Hall once more. You see him remove a piece of parchment from the Quest Board and stare at it thoughtfully for a few moments. You watch as he eyes each of the heroes who had put down their name, before approaching a table where a game of chess is being played. "I'm afraid that that chess game will have to wait. I have selected you to join the heroes at Bric'Bay Fort, Barbarian Delvergrow. Please, follow me." With that, you see the Pikeman leave the Hall.

Wrong topic.
-
I'm still working on the write-up for Quest 17 wherein I introduce the new hero. I had hoped to also finish the polybolos and chu-ko-nu today, but the weather is horrendous and I can't get a good picture. (see the unnaturally lit, slightly blurry pic of Warden Docken in my sig?)
-
Are you on now? Lag's bad for me, but I'll go look.
-
Actually, it's back to about normal speed for me, now.
-
I'll challenge you when you get back. Will you be the first hero to chicken out? So, let's see, if I pick a higher Level hero, I have to rebalance the enemies... *scribble* *scribble* ...and increase the difficulty of the wave... *scribble* ...so, how many times does Flipz die, now? *roll* *roll* *roll*

While we're reporting OS, I'm using Safari on Snow Leopard. I did notice your S7 review was blogged by TBB, Fangy, so if that's the topic causing the problem, that's where I'd guess all the traffic's coming from.

Thanks. I hand Hybros 2 Deadly Venoms. It was quite good. Got to watch Cinna dig up an entire beach, which was hilarious. And I got a shiny piece of Mythril which I had integrated into my new shield, which is awesome. I feel bad about leaving the Ziegfried boy in Salmanda, but what can you do against an immortal witch?
-
I have the same problem. Pages take at least a minute to load, but nothing seems to be wrong if I ping the server.
-
I reenter the Hall, now a Warden. I believe I owe 71 Gold to Cinna, for the money I borrowed for the Mythril, 25 Gold that was promised to Thothwick, who was going to lend me the money but was occupied when, due to time constraints, I needed it, and a further 50 Gold to Cinna as compensation for letting me buy my Mythril instead of her getting her discounted gem. Additionally, I have 2 Deadly Venoms, which I am willing to sell for the discounted price of 40 Gold each. Any buyers?
-
I enter the Training Room with my new equipment in hand. With my typical quiet efficiency, I train in a corner of the room until I am as proficient with the shield and sword as I already am with the bow. Level 20.5 Warden *scary* Power: 29 Health: 39/39 Defense: 15 Gold: 104 Inventory: Briar Bow (WP: 9; Wood Elemental), Mockthril Longbow (WP: 5), Mythril Shield (SP: 15), Dread Hat (enemies lower than half of wearer's level won't attack directly), Bedroll, Mead, Venom, 2 Deadly Venoms, Smoke Bomb
-
I enter the Marketplace having completed my quest for the Ziegfrieds, and approach Anwyl. I have my Scarab Shield Mythrilized, upgrading it to SP: 15. While he's doing that, I have Anwyl reshape it into a more traditional shape, emblazoned with a stag and more suitable for a Warden. (250-100=150)

Thanks for hosting, Sandy. The quest was a lot of fun, and the length didn't really bother me. (getting the mythril probably helped my opinion of the quest, though )

So much for words that have meaning, huh?

You should turn it off. Especially when the iPad has a keyboard large enough to be easy to type on when you get used to it. (as opposed to an iPod Touch, which I still can't type on that well after a year and a half)I don't have either yet, but I'd go with the Joust over the Shuttle, by the way. That redesigned Black Falcon knight is beautiful. The Shuttle might be slightly better as a display piece, but I think the Joust is the better overall set.

I'm not really going to side with anyone here, because to me, the only value that matters in a set is MSRP parts per dollar and MOCing value, but I have to point out that just because a set is rare doesn't mean that there's demand for them. It doesn't matter if a MISB first-edition UCS Falcon is worth elventy-gazillion dollars if no one wants to buy one. Yes, there will be the collectors who want one of every set and the old school guys who only want the older style sets or (in some cases) the old greys and the guys with a ton of money who just want to be able to say that they own the set (nothing against any of those), but I really think they are a minority among the fans who buy discontinued sets. The rarity of the set won't change with a redesign, but the demand will drop because all those people who just want to play with a set will go for the newer, cheaper one, and if demand for the older set drops, so will its value. That being said, I personally thing LEGO is a toy to be opened and enjoyed, and any set that's sitting around MISB is simply not getting the love and play it deserves, and I myself would never buy a set just to keep for several years and sell later.

When you point out the Scum that you got lynched on Day 1, you can claim to be more helpful than I. That action may not necessarily clear me or mark me as Town, but none can say that it isn't more helpful than what you've done. Even if I were an Agent, that would still be an action helping the Town and a Mutineer caught.

Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Okay, sounds good! I'll get some builds done, take some pictures, choose the new hero, and put together a refresher on the goals of the quest, so expect a mega post some time tomorrow or Sunday. -
Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note:Well, the polybolos would also only be able to target one enemy. It'd be like getting two chances to hit a target, but only dealing half your full potential in Damage if you don't hit both times. The chu-ko-nu, on the other hand, would be able to target two different enemies. And, yes, I would allow you to make a handheld chu-ko-nu in the time between battles if parts from William's existing bow were used. So, are we decided? Handheld chu-ko-nu and full-size polybolos attached to Slice N Dice? -
That's hilarious. Swear filters can be set to replace only phrases instead of words. Besides, if it replaced the words 'angry' and 'birds' individually, people who weren't talking about AngryBirds would end up with 'grumpy' and 'sparrows' all over the forum. Hinck may like to have fun with the swear filter, but I'm sure he, as a Root Admin, knows how to do it without messing up a bunch of posts that don't refer to AngryBirds.I'm a conformist!

LDD File with all official parts?
Brickdoctor replied to swils's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have one that I use when I do RCBs. It's called, 'Aanchir'. As far as I know, there isn't one. Personally, I think it's easier to select the brick in LDD first, then check it against BL's or Peeron's color list. -
Need some help with LDD
Brickdoctor replied to Onumaru's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yeah, unfortunately, as reported here, we're all having that problem right now. Hopefully, TLG will get it fixed soon, as it appears to be a server problem on their side of things.
