Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note:That's correct. Which reminds me, I forgot to give Alexandre's crossbow to Isabella. -
"You can be invulnerable - depending, of course, on the mood of the Voice in the Sky at the time of the battle."
-
They are, however, based on luck, not skill. Sandy has also said in the QM Lounge that it is acceptable for a Quest to have no battles at all. How would XP be gained in those quests, if battles are the only source?
-
You were only going to get one, but then someone suggested that you join the Lion Units Alexandre was training, and I couldn't think of a way for you not get XP realistically from that. Besides, I didn't want you to get slaughtered by elves who've been balanced for Level 5+ in the final battle, so I didn't have that much against it.
-
"I'm doing well, thanks. How about yourself? "I am glad to be home. It's good to relax and enjoy a meal without worrying about how much time you have left before the matriarch of one of the six houses dies." "I'm pleased to meet you, Miss Fenral. Bartholomew Docken, Warden."
-
It does depend on what classes we're playing. Skipper, for example, is currently playing Rogue, which is a very independent class, because you have to be soloing in order to get the most benefit out of your cloak. (enemies don't shoot at all, unless they're Leviathans) Also, the more people you have, the harder it is for each individual person to deal soulbound Damage, and the harder it becomes to get good loot. Leveling could get easier, though.
-
Rogue might just not be your class. It certainly isn't mine. Unless you're trying to unlock all the classes, I'd just go back to Priest and get good at it.
-
If we break down the brain power required for XP, battles just require that you pick a target, attack it, and hope the die lands in your favor. The heroes of Q17 aren't just roleplaying, and they're doing what they do with a good amount of detail. I've denied VolcanicPanik XP for not being specific enough.
-
I attack Skrall from the Back Row with my Briar Bow. I lower my shield to cover myself better, then fire back.
-
Kill gods. That's pretty much the only way to do it quickly....and, ugh, I did it again! After I almost killed Sisco when I buffed an Ent, I buffed a Lich and got Flipz killed.

General Discussion and Announcements

And win another Oscar doing it. Hmm... Duplo Disney Mafia... -
Correct. But try to get to 22 first.
-
I don't think that was directed specifically at you. No need to get offended; this is QM-to-QM constructive criticism. (on that note, though, there is more going on than searching Wikipedia for siege engines, such as Flipz's sticking nails in the ground to make lighting more accurate)

QM Note:No, I'd prefer that we stick with magic for trained magic-using heroes, and not make the Lion Units too powerful. -

QM Note:I think I swapped your HP and Ether stats. Fixed. -
Fair point. I think it makes sense in this quest, though, since the entire objective of the quest as told to the heroes by the commanding NPC instructs them to be creative. As CMP said, there hasn't been any good reward so far in the Quest. I think this was the best way (not necessarily a fair way to heroes on other Quests or a good way, but the best way) to reward them and keep the reward realistic within the plot of the Quest. Thanks. I agree, Quest shouldn't be just about the loot or the XP (even though I constantly say that's all that matters ) However, that doesn't mean that I as the QM shouldn't try to give my heroes a decent amount of reward. They've been at this for over three months, with only five battles. Statistically, they've only gained XP once every 3.2 weeks from battles. That wouldn't be very much XP without the bonuses. In a way, this is to keep this Quest fair for its players.
-
I attack Skrall from the Back Row with my Briar Bow. I whip my first arrow out of my quiver, notching it on the string and drawing back my bow in one smooth motion, but I turn slightly to the right with my shield now in front of me, waiting for Skrall to make the first move.
-
I originally was not going to do it, but then I realized that this Quest has given nothing special, and it's gone on so long that I have to end it at five battles instead of eight. There's been no extra Gold, no outstanding equips, no artifacts, and the XP of only five battles, over what promises to be an eighty- to ninety page-quest. The only thing my quest did differently from others was the sheer amount of freedom I allowed and the creativity I encouraged, so I figured the best way to give it the proper amount of unique reward would be to reward creativity with XP.

You sig is a hilarious parody of those of us who advertise our RPG stats. X-D

Interestingly, he was for a few days trailing Capt.JohnPaul in bonus XP. He only now just tied him at +3 Levels.
-
...and, of course, my latest char finishes rolling with 22 Fame - but this one turns out to be the one with a good roll (a +26 HP roll ), so it looks that upgrade will have to wait.

William, you instruct the archers, but they don't seem to learn anything from your saying, "I train the crossbowmen". In the mean time, Count Lewis, you oversee the finishing of the weapons: Polybolos *Rapid-fire* Requires one operator Level: 10 Health: 15/15 Ammunition: Arrows Note: The polybolos will shoot twice at a target each Round. Repeating Crossbow (WP: 5May not be upgraded; Fire Elemental; Hastened) - Containing an intricate reloading mechanism, this crossbow has a permanent Hastened effect. Due to its delicate and precise construction and its need to be easily cocked, its WP may not be upgraded. "Excellent work! These new weapons should greatly increase our chances of success. Here's what we've got so far: Collapsing bridge rigged with a Fire Bomb to deal 7 Damage to any elves who try to cross it Two nets which can Stun up to five elves each for 2 Rounds Torches which can be used on Stunned elves to remove the Stun effect and impart the Burn effect Vines on the West Wall for heroes to climb that will spike elves for 1 Damage if they try to climb The new moat to prevent any elves from scaling the walls with grappling hooks Two barricades which elves can't move or attack through Nails in the ground in front of the West Wall to make Lightning spells cast in that direction Lucky Four bear traps to impart the Bound effect, making an elf unable to attack with melee weapons or deal Free Hits for the next Round Two skeleton launchers to impart the Afraid effect for the duration of the battle, halving Damage done Do we know where we are going to place these? And where we're going to place the poury thingies? Additionally, some of the weapons need operators." William Harkenshire, Helm Delvergrow, and Arthur Justus Regulus VII have each gained a Level of XP! Party: Althior Emorith, Level 17 Mage (K-nut) *Party Leader* *Mounted* *Hastened* *Encouraged* *Lucky* Power: 22 44 Health: 16/21 Ether: 21/21 Defense: 3 Gold: 10 Inventory: Dragoro (WP:5), Robe of the Elven Warlock (SP: 3), Topaz (Lightning), Amethyst (Darkness), Ruby (Fire), Sapphire (Wind), Opal (Ice), Aquamarine (Water), Emerald (Wood), Diamond (Light), Potions (2), Tonic, Shovel, Bedroll, Remedy, Horse, Fire Bomb, Skeleton Decoys (2) Xander Unth'or, Level 11.5 Barbarian (posades) *Party Second-in-Command* *Mounted* *Encouraged* Power: 19 38 Health: 18/18 Gold: 40 Inventory: Pongcanis Club (WP: 8), Enigmatic Hammer (WP: 3), Robe of the Pongcanis Champion (WP: +1Front Row; SP: +1Back Row), Potions (2), Grand Potion, Phoenix Essence, Horse, Fire Bomb, Skeleton Decoy William Harkenshire, Level 10 Ranger (volcanicpanik) *Mounted* *Hastened* Power: 15 Health: 14/15 Gold: 15 Inventory: Repeating Crossbow (WP: 5May not be upgraded; Fire Elemental; Hastened), Potion (3),Remedy, Smoke Bomb, Bedroll, Mead, Smelling Salts, Pickaxe, Horse, Skeleton Decoy, Alexandre le Chevalier, Level 8 Knight (Capt.JohnPaul) Power: 9 Health: 17/17 Defense: 2 Gold: 15 Inventory: Standard-Issue Crossbow (WP: 1), Sword (WP: 3), Buckler Shield (SP: 2), Potions (2), Fire Bombs (2) Helm Delvergrow, Level 3 Barbarian (played by Sloop) Power: 6 Health: 10/10 Gold: 10 Inventory: Snake-style Blade (WP:3), Potion, Mead Luke, Level 15.5 Sage (controlled by K-nut) *Pacifist* Power: 20 Health: 30/30 Ether: 22/22 Gold: 0 Inventory: Healing Staff (WP: 5), Wooden Staff (WP: 1), Diamond (Light), Garnet (Earth), Bedroll Count Lewis Knyghton, Level 10.5 Engineer (controlled by Flipz) Power: 13 Health: 18/18 Gold: 0 Inventory: Spatha (WP: 3), Opal (Ice), Emerald (Wood), Telescope, Potions (2) Isabella del Toboso, Level 5 Rogue (Dharkan) Power: 8 Health: 11/11 Gold: 25 Inventory: Golden Dagger (WP: 3), Standard-Issue Sword (WP: 1), Venom, Potions (2), Bedroll, Fire Bombs (2) Arthur Justus Regulus VII, Level 8 Mage (Flipz) Power: 13 Health: 12/12 Ether: 12/12 Gold: 5 Inventory: Staff of the Elven Warlock (WP: 5; Wood Elemental), Serpentine Staff (WP: 3), Bedroll Mini Merlin Trebuchet Requires one operator Level: 20 Health: 20/20 Ammunition: Stones Note: Because it uses a sling, the Mini Merlin Trebuchet may not fire multiple projectiles. Agreed. You'll get pretty much the same amount of information, and Wookieepedia has links all over the place to make it even easier to look up the gazillion different other publications that the book tries to tie together.

382nd Legionnaire is suggesting both: a BP with random troopers. There wasn't anything wrong legally with that BP, either.
