Project in LDD
legolijntje replied to matagad's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, according to this comparison, you should be able to animate gears in both free and paid version. And what do you mean with buying/registered? If you bought the software,, you will get an email with the instructions that say that you have to add the "Registration.key" file and you have to go to help > Register to register your software using the information given in the email. Anyway, you should be able to rotate the gears in both the free and paid version. What error do you get when you rotate? Maybe you can share the file? -

Hmm... So, to be sure you did the right thing: to rotate gears you have to: Select the "Animation Mode - Rotate" button. (the one with the gears icon) Select the axle or gear you want to rotate. Drag the mouse (while holding the left-mouse button) to the left or to the right. If you want to select another gear, double-click the "Animation Mode - Rotate" button again (this will also reset the previous turned gears) or you can press enter on your keyboar (this won't reset the previous selected gears). If that doesn't work... Well, I have to get a better look... If you have any more questions, please don't hold them back. -

As Calabar said, you can use the free version, although it has some limitations. You can find a comparison here. And, I don't think it's too expensive at all. It just depends on the person who wants to buy it. In your case, it can be a bit much to pay as you probably will only use it once. But in my case, I don't think it's too expensive at all, because I use it almost daily. -
You can download the free version, just by going to the website and clicking download. You may not use it for commercial goals and the free version doesn;t have some functions. You can find a comparison bewtween the free and the paid version here.

MLCAD to SR 3D Builder
legolijntje replied to bats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hmm, it doesn't work here either. It looks like it is centering many parts. I have to look better into it. I'm thinking it might be a problem with buffer exchange. I don't know if Sergio has added import support for buffer exchange (I don't mean that it can use buffer exchange, but that it knows it is buffer exchange and so it should skip that, unless Sergio adds supoport for using buffer exchange in SR3D Builder, which would be fantastic). I'll take a better look at it. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
legolijntje replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That sounds like a good idea; to be able to lock pieces with the "lock tool" ( ), so one can't accidenly replace pieces -

Some more information would be useful to help you. For example what OS do you use, which version of the software etc. And the most useful would be: share the model. If you don't want to make it public, you can also PM me if you want. So I can try it out and see what happens at my PC -
Project in LDD
legolijntje replied to matagad's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, SR3D Builder is a very nice program (I always use and promote it ), but it's still a beta software. Especially the animation console (the part where you can add buttons and sliders to animate your model) and the animation engine are not completed yet. Although they can do a lot already (especially compared to earlier versions), there are still things that won't work. Of course, if it is a not too complicated model, everything is fine. You can always try of course, and as I said earlier, the animation is quite good already. If you need any help with SR3D, just ask -
That's a nice model. I already knew it for some time now, but I didn't know there are instructions too I'll definitly build this, I think it looks very nice when you see this thing walking If you have any questions regarding SR3D Builder, you can always ask here in the forum. Also keep an eye out on the next version of HispaBrick

I don't know what the "official/right" solution is, but couldn't you make every flex axle a .ldr and combine them (together with all the other pieces) in an .mpd. This way (I think) you can make LPub think the flex axle is a submodel and (after some adjusting in the settings in LPub) you can make it show the whole submodel in the parst list, in this case the flex axle. But this wouldn't work for the BOM... There are probably people with a more elegant solution...

[Software] LDD Manager

I don't know about your thumbnail problem, but I do want to say that the 64bit problem is a known problem. It has nothing to do with Acces alone, but witht the whole 64bit Office. The compatibility problem is also in 2007 and 2010. Even Microsoft knows about it. In fact, they even recommend to use the 32 bit office, unless you use Excel files bigger than 2GB... Anyway, I will try to do what you did (I have Office 2013 too) to see what happens here with the thumbnails... -

3D Printing
legolijntje replied to Bonaparte's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I don't think this is a bad idea. It will force the other companies to make better and/or cheaper printers too, because they don't dominate the market anymore. It's just competitive businesses. -

Digging thru the history about LEGO...
legolijntje replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was thinking about this for a while now: how do you actually determine if something is really made by LEGO or if it is just some (very old) clone or maybe something that (in the case of the wooden boxes) someone made by himself? What are the criteria and the points you look at to determine if it's genuine? -
LDD 4.3.6 bugs
legolijntje replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
There is nothing wrong with that. If you look at the page linked by you, you can see on the left "Alternate Item No:" which lists the (if available) alternate item numbers. You can see there that 6143 is one of them -
MlCAD: hiding "animated" parts in BOM
legolijntje replied to Lipko's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I don't know if I understand you correctly, but if you want to insert a whole submodel at once into the main model, you can use the .mpd file system. So, all the sub-assemblies are seperate .ldr files. LPub automaticly adds the insert for the submodels. If you need any more help, just ask Or, maybe you can show a real life example in one of TLG's instructions to clarify what you mean? -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
legolijntje replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, it probably mostly depends on the other settings. A sidenote; I render LDraw models and you render (I presume) LDD models. So you use LDDtoPOVray and I don't.. In my experience, LDDtoPOVray render times can be waaaay longer than if I render a LDraw model. That's probably because all the settings that LDD2P has to offer can make the quality higher than if I add some lines of code myself in the pov-ray file (the exported LDraw file), but also make the rendering rime higher. Of course I can add all the lines of code to the LDraw file that LDD2P adds to the lxf file, but I don't want and don't need them. -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
legolijntje replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, the FINAL preset can take up to 2 days, but it also depends on the other settings, configuration and of course your PC specs. A radiosity_final render can also take just 1/2 hours -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
legolijntje replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, I don't think it are 'strange' artifacts, I think it's just becuase you use the fast radiosity method, which is less detailed and more used for testing a render before using radiosity FINAL.
