Unless you're keeping them in mint condition for your grandchildren's children, get out a knife, cut the seals, open the boxes & bags up and build the sets. That's what Lego is for! Yeah, okay, I have some sealed boxes too. None are stickers though, they're all punch open. (ie factory sealed with glue)

Birch trees have many different colours, some a very light colour (silver birch, paper birch, white birch etc). Oh don't forget the white tree in Lord of the Rings! Yeah I imagine the brown conversion would be quite expensive. Imagine making a paper birch version (yeah okay, so you can't fit a person inside a skinny tree like that) and using tan pieces...

Target had plenty of all the standard Kingdoms sets, new Atlantis and heaps of other stuff I take little notice of. Creationary all gone, but the other 8 I saw before (including Hogwarts) were still there. Still no sign of minifigs - I reckon either we never got any or some barstool grabbed 'em all when they came in. Toyworld had a dozen or so of the Kingdoms Advent, new Atlantis plus everything that was there before. Couldn't find any games despite seeing someone walk out with one. No return of minifigs since the 1 time I saw them when they first appeared. No-one else had anything interesting. Might grab an advent calendar, if there's any left later on. Not particularly interested, but it looks okay.

For the towels, did you use tiles sideways? I've been baffled until now if that's right.

Nice setup. Bit unsure about the joust, the dragon knight looks like he's going to go straight into the fence! About the modified forestmen sets. Firstly I'll say this: they do look good. But still, what's with all these people changing the forestmen bases from black to brown these days? Not all trees are brown, some are black, some are silver. We even have white ones over here.

What I do? Whatever works with the utensils being held. Some things require the hand to be sideways, generally in this case I have the flat side on the inside and curved side on the outside of the minifig. BUT, the default for me is with the flat side up, so if the fig is emptyhanded the hand is flat side up. And I am very particular about this when putting the figures together!

In addition to these responses, Lego did not use those colours until recent years.

My problem tends to be the reverse - I can never get enough of the bad guys. Then I realise that the good guys are hugely outnumbered. "Suppose I'd better get some more good guys then... but the bad guys are so much cooler..."

Is it? Whoops I thought it was 6257. It is similar. Now that you mention it, it does look a bit skinny to be the one I had, and it also has the on the top, and 6257 didn't. I suppose I combined it in my memory with the 6261 raft (I had 2x) that had a on top. In reference to the forum the image was posted on, I lost on the first image.

Yep, I spent lots of time in my younger days ogling the catalogues & mini-catalogues that came in sets. Castle, Space & Pirate scenes were definitely my favourites. You know what? I only just noticed an error in the first picture, the raft has a wavy flag instead of straight one. Curious.

This looks effortless - like you didn't even have to try to fit them all in the scene. And the wave is very impressive!

I think the tower is supposed to be a hidden(ish) camouflaged building, probably built into the side of a gully in a forest - as opposed to being in the middle of a grassy field. I wouldn't expect it to be held under siege like a castle - it's more a hideout, borrowing from the Forestmen theme a bit. I was actually disappointed that there was a wizard. This is the first time since 1989 we've not had witches, dragons, skeletons or ghosts. I'm gonna pretend this "wizard" is basically just a chemist of sorts. This is why I only bought 1 of each - I'm anticipating a green, brown & dark grey castle next year. (PLEASE!) Haha I agree it's imbalanced, but I'm expecting more sets to come out in future. Once they're all out & I've got 'em all, I'll do whatever balancing act I deem necessary. I think the worst thing about the current Dragon Knights wave is that there are 0 mounted knights. ZERO. Not one.

Looked up the sets with pirate gold and counted that I should have 12 lots of coin thingies, but I remembered that somehow I had extra. So I got them all out and counted them: 12x 40, 14x 30, 14x 20, 14x 10 & 6x the-middle-bit. (Includes one lot still stuck together). Total = 1320 pirate gold currency. Not bad considering I haven't touched pirate Lego since 1993 or something. I took a photo but keep forgetting to bring the camera to put it online - will do eventually. Yes, I used to count the-middle-bit as money too, but I gave it a value of 50 since it was bigger than the coins. Also, I (just) managed to fit all my horde in 2 treasure chests. This means I have quite a few empty - and some with jewels & gold (yellow) goblets or round plates. Hello castle.
