I went to Myer the day the sale began and I think there was only 1 or 2 left, and all Emerald Nights were gone. Not even counting the huge gaps in the shelves & tables (from what had already sold so far) this was the biggest display of Lego I've ever seen there. Aussie AFOLs, eh. My problem with MISB is that they're only MISB once. After I've opened it that's it, you can't have the "opening a MISB" feeling again. It's like with trying to have your cake and eat it too - it's a once only experience. So I put off again and again but eventually give in. I can understand an old set costing so much when MISB (because it's very rare - supply&demand), but I saw on eBay today a castle (I forget which one) "buy it now" for $500... and no it wasn't from the 80s or 90s, it was one of the more recent ones, knight's kingdom or crownies. What nutbags would fall for that?! Buy one MISB and two used from Bricklink for that price.

I noticed Target have the Clone Turbo Tank (@$190?) in that toy sale catalogue starting tomorrow (amongst other things obviously). I heard Toyworld are stocking Kingdoms sets earlier than the advertised release of SEPTEMBER (hurry up!). Is this true? Pity they aren't in Target... I want to buy the castle. On sale. (and not from shop@home with the $700000 postage price) -
Look at all the deviants lining up to try and be the topic killer

Is that to force them into a lower rank (and thereby lower their privileges)?

...tempting...

When I saw the title of the thread, I immediately thought "it depends how much money and shelf space you can part with". I've stuck to Space, as I know if I touch any other theme my money is going to just disappear. If I did get into another theme it would be Castle... but there is so much of a back-catalogue it would cost far too much and I'm a "complete the whole lot" kind of person. I have considered limiting myself to figures (this would still be a large expensive venture) however. I had a number of Castle, Pirates & Town sets as a kid, these are all dismantled and many pieces have been scavenged for my Space collection. I've also considered collecting Star Wars figures, but the price of some is putting me off from actually doing it quite a lot.

They're exciting, gimmicky, the minifigs and many pieces are usually very standout, but you know what? I don't touch them. When I was a kid, yes, because that sort of thing could suck me in. Now? No, because I've got self-control! (To some degree...) It looks cool, but I don't need it. NEXT!

My comment disappeared? Anyway, I think this is brilliant... one tiny criticism: slightly less red on the front, slightly less black on the back, add some dark grey and it's perfect! Well done!

Hello everyone, just like to apologise to all for crossing the line with inappropriateness if you found my last post to be um... inappropriate. I'm not out to make enemies or score points by taking people down with cheap (or expensive) shots. I don't mind scoring points for making witty comments however. If you find them offensive or humiliating let me know. Obviously I do not believe Canada is a ninjanation, nor that anyone Canadian is a lesser person, nor that anyone with a difference of opinion to mine is necessarily a fool. I'll apologise for bad behaviour, & express regret for mis-communication if they occur again. I won't stop attempting to make light of a situation with wit, and when you realise I'm not actually swiping at you, or anyone, you'll LOL instead. And I'll try not to get carried away... Now, back on topic: I've still only seen these figures in a shop on one occasion. They never returned nor did they appear in any of the other places that stock Lego. Go figure. -

The robot reminds me of stuff from Popeye cartoons. (Comic strips, not animation.) It's even more retro than retro, haha. Yeah I hear of this Naruto quite a bit. Anime & manga seem to be rising in popularity too. Your age WAS relevant if you fell in the bracket I was describing, but it didn't really matter. I don't think I need to conduct a high scale quantitative survey to tell me if something is currently more pop culture than it usually is - you see and hear it more in media, "conversation" (I use that term loosely) and in social networks. Since most media and social networks available to us (ie in our face) are heavily USA influenced it can't just be us (if anyone at all) who are catching up to the far ninja-advanced civilisation of Canada, where wild ninjas graze the fields by the thousands, and every Canadian & his dog (& his dog's fleas) wear a ninja costume every other day, as has been the case for the past 200 years - with absolutely no wavering, because ninjas have NEVER been less popular there than they are now. Either that or I'm right, and they are currently more popular than their average popularity, and it's likely that it will dip again. That's what a trend is. -
Haha I know that... but it does have bigger dimensions. It's funny when you place them together how inadequate the Explorien Starship looks - it used to look great. The buggy? Yep. If we're talking how much of a shelf it takes up, you count everything! If you only count "the ship proper" the Enforcer is longer.

Surveyed. I had to stop and work out how much I've spent on Lego this last year... and felt a little bit naughty! Haha.
-
Having 1 of these is awesome, 2 would make me feel like I've "made it" in Lego life ... but 7?
-
I understand what you're saying there - it's like McDonald's. It's never as big (or as good) as it looks in the pictures. Unlike McDonalds's however, it is not something you regret buying afterward. I measured them against each other, and the Explorien Starship is bigger in all 3 dimensions if you include antennae, satellite dishes etc etc. Longer, wider & higher than Galactic Enforcer, Galactic Mediator & Mission Commander. (I do not have any large Classic ships, I don't know what the biggest of those is.)

Don't forget Ninja Turtles! I wasn't talking about kids, I don't know how old you are or whether you have much contact with 18-25s but ninjas are currently more cool than they usually are, just as pirates were more cool a few years ago than usual. That's the trend. Those kind of characters are (pretty much) always cool to kids. Another thing: who says the votes on the Lego site are all by kids? Or even mostly? -
Oh God no! PLEASE no Transformers 3! The only good thing about Transformers 2 was the "abridged script" on the editing room website... Now THAT was entertainment. Oh, and Frank Welker too.

Yes, K-Mart has a toy sale on... yes, there is a lot of Lego there for sale... no, there isn't much worth a second look (unless you're taken aback by the amount of Tantive IVs they have... @ $299 each...) -

It's called a "trend" "fad" etc, 5 years ago it would've been a pirate because pirates were cool then mostly due to those Disney movies. The question is pretty much asking: "if you could have ONE, which would it be" not "if you could have any number of each, which would you have more of" Maybe 18% prefer a robot, but would have 50x as many cheerleaders despite her not being their favourite. -
Oh my! What a clever otter, with those skills I see how significant it is!

What if she was assigned to a different "master" before becoming a Knight?
