Cleaning options above are all great. I used the soap and water technique for the canopy decal.

Had something posted but I removed it -
Back from the dead post... I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate all of your support. I ended up selling the sw stuff to a guy in Dallas with a resale shop Technic stuff went to the northeast where a father and two sons will give it a go. As for me I have three sets now but don't feel sad. I am currently working on the new taj and both mf's. Will post pics when done. Thanks again.

Selling an entire SW and Technic collection
neoconagenda replied to neoconagenda's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I am going to list the SW with a starting price of $2750 and the Technic at $800. I will post the listings once they are active. -
I have lost a collection due to flooding. The background information can be found here - The issue I am having is with pricing. I know I am selling as bulk but this is really bulk sets and not bulk parts. I need to know where I should set the reserve price. I am thinking of around .08 per piece. Below is a list of my sets. I will ship overseas but it will be expensive. I shipped one set to my nephew in Sweden and it was $75... This is not going to be easy but it is a great opprotunity for a collector and a great parts hoard for the MOC builder. All the instructions and boxes are gone. As of now the stickers on the sets are holding up. I have not washed and rinsed them yet. I appreciate all of the well wishes from people. Thank you!

I am looking at it as fate reducing the size of my collection. I was never going to downsize and the sets keep coming. I will hopefully get enough money out of the sale to get a proper display case for what I have left and buy the new MF. The real bummer is that whoever buys the technic sets will have to replace the motors. This is not going to be a purchase for the faint of heart. There will be a crap ton of sorting. When I get a chance I need to get on my rebrickable account and get a good part count.
-
I am probably going to start an auction at 1/3 or 1/4 bricklink value. But that is weeks away.
-
I guess I could have been more descriptive. These sets were all broken up on the floor. The water swirling around mixed everything up. Trust me this is not the way I wanted to do this but I have no time to sort 25,000 or so pieces. This is a really crap way to do this and that am sorry that it is going cut out people with more direct needs. You can always sort them out and sale what you don't need. I just don't have the heart to go through what was once a great collection and piece out my joy. I would rather rip it off like a bandage and deal with it all at once.
-
I am only going to offer them as a lot of SW and Technic. They will not be sorted by set. As such they will be offered at a significant discount. The only guarantee that I will make is that each set will be complete or very close (all rare parts WILL be included). I have not decided on how to price this yet so any suggestions would be appreciated.
-
I have decided to let go of the bulk of my collection. Basically everything below is the top shelf in the earlier post will go. I am not going to sort anything except by technic and sw. Basically it is going to be a couple of big boxes with multiple partially broken down sets. I am happy with my decision to let them go and appreciate any suggestions you may have on fair price. I am willing to ship overseas. I am not ready to sale anything yet. I need to sanitize and repackage them.

I went to my daughters house and to my surprise the 10179 was safe on the top shelf of a closet. I had it shipped to her house since I was not home for the delivery. Had I been home it would have been lost. Still not able to get to my house but this is nice!
-
Just lamenting that what was a relatively cost neutral hobby has changed direction. I was never an investor or scalper, just a guy who found UCS too late.
-
This is an old pic. I had recently added 10179, saturn video, and the new snowspeeder...

Thanks for all of the support. I still have not been able for get into my neighborhood so I don't know what if anything is salvageable in my home. The lego is abs so aside from the stickers and books they will be fine. I might decide to have a very good sale for anyone local that wants to pick up an entire collection. I just don't know yet if I will be have the time to salvage them. I will let everyone know via this thread when I figure it out. Does anybody know if the large sets float? I am trying to prepare myself for opening the door for the first time. I will take pictures and share them with everyone. This is a great community of AFOL's!!!

That's what I was concerned with was the type of water that they are soaking in. I just know they are going to smell if I dont break them down and dry them out...

I live in Southeast Texas and my home is flooded, possibly over the roof. I have a large collection of sets and feel pretty sure that I have lost all of the boxes, instructions, and stickers sheets that I carefully stowed away. Without the books it is going to be a nightmare to rebuild all of these sets. My question is can the sets be placed in the sun for a day or two and dry out. Or maybe put them in large boxes with desiccant packs. I also have several motorized Technic sets that I am sure are parts kits now... I am not able to discuss this with family because, well, my home is flooded and I should not be worried about my toys. On the bright side I have 57k parts ready for action!!!

I picked one up for 1k 2 weeks ago. Probably still overpaid but not as much as others. It has an excellent box and unused stickers and a perfect book. -

On this set I would wait for double VIP. Its going to be hard to wait but double VIP for this set makes it worth the torture. -
Apologies if this is the wrong place or a repeat topic - With the possible re-issue of rare parts on the upcoming MF I am wondering what impact the community thinks it will have on older sets that feature rare parts. For me as a collector that came in late I have always sorta justified the cost by telling myself that I could make my money back with little risk. Because I am cheap and waited a very long time to get the right seller to come along and did not pay the huge amounts that others did. But I still have a large investment that I would be stupid to not be concerned about. Just wanted to see what the prevailing opinion is on the topic. My opinion is that a re-issue of a set that has different elements and build techniques doesn't change the value of the older set by much. But when they re-issue a set with possibly two of the most rare elements I feel like it deals a huge blow to the older sets value. That being said I would not be the owner of a 10179 had the 75192 not unsettled the market...

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors

For some of us the compulsive nature of collecting does not allow for like or dislike. I agree with you on the new version looking better but once they slap a UCS title on a set a lot of us have no choice. Its a terrible problem for people that came into the series late. I didn't start collecting until the re-release of the X-Wing and only lack the two busts. I just recently acquired the 10179 now that prices have dropped with serious sellers. My only problem is space for two MF's and now rumored ISD... I am not going to be able to con my wife out of another room!
