  1. The house is looking very good, but the point here is the use of those wings..that is for sure... brilliant!! Was it your own idea, or did you borrow the idea?
  2. A bit off topic, but i think this is very true for a lot of AFOLS amongst us... Adults, trying to create the lego-dream of their childhood... and what is wrong with that.. how many do not buy the sportscar that they have always wanted.... And yes, it is a relaxing passion..... spending an evening whilst building and searching....time flies when you're having fun!! Part of the fun for me is figuring out what to build next...or calculating/ordering the right amount of parts for it!
  3. That is really nice!! I Only the roof on the balcony side should have some overhang! (You could hang some clothes to dry there) .. But for the rest it is simple but so attractive and realistic!
  4. Those look great in two ways too!! Yesterday i put my XXL version in the layout....and looking at size, it does not standout anymore...i was looking at XL Town Hall and got a strange feeling about the size now and then....... But as long as i am satisfied, it is okay! The florist is really a bit in the back...you should think of that when placing it in any layout...When you look at it sideways, it is almost covered by the other buildings... When i was a kid, my parents gave me all they could and it was a lot, besides that, they gave me Lego and i was really happy with it, but i never got the flagships of trains and town-sets.... now that i am older, there is a way i can afford it and i must say i really enjoy it every single day! It gives me again something of my youth, that warm feeling my parents gave me too! My parents are both 80 years old now, and sometimes i talk with them about those sundaymornings playing with my dad with Lego... mostly ending u with me building, and him searching for parts....! But i have Always wanted something like this, especially with trains, but that is taking roo much space in my very moderate house/attic! I hope i still do the same within 20 years... but hope i have a dedicated Lego-room at that time!! Here it is in my layout...
  5. Here is a video of the XXL MOD... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMe0i-2rHTA
  6. Here a picture of the backside...
  7. I'll take some shots from the back later today!! The idea was to create something like a sub-square or road/park... so there won't be added another row of baseplates to the current square... it reached it's maximum size now! It's okay to say! But when i see the size of the square, the buildings do not appear to be too tall, or too wide... it is in a right scale.. Maybe some pictures disturb this perception that i get when i look at it for real! Near the Railway-side of the square, there is enough space to play.. both my sons, 4 and 7 years old, do play there, sometimes with some small thing out of my layout, but actually never in my square itself, as it is too complicated when trees tumble over or so... it is just too much work to redo that, again and again... The fighters are just taking pictures....haha My latest idea was to have a row of trees and a some detail in the middle..and then a row of parking lots around that.......at last a tiled road that has a U-turn in the back of the layout!
  8. There is a rail with cables hanging down in which i hang over the square, like the scene in Mission Impossible... now i have easy access... haha...Uhm..no.. there is no access... from one side i could reach the back pretty easy, but now that i'm expanding again, i need full width and there is no access anymore.. But, it is not very difficult to remove a few modulars including their baseplates.. and thén there is access....Not the most ideal situation, but there is no other way for me!!
  9. Thanks! I hope i also get some inspiration what to do with the (now empty) space of 4 large 48x48 baseplates, as seen in the picture in the former post... The pizza-van will find its final destination there, and maybe some other things or little shops.. First i wanted a somewhat larger canal, but it is too hard to raise the surrounding area....Next thought was a market, or just a park.....Well, i've got time to think about that, and maybe some other EB'rs come up with some nice ideas?
  10. That is great work... i like the small roof between the large building and the stairs... the whole thing matches really good together! Also the windows with arches look nice this way!!! Well done!!
  11. Yesterday i succeeded in creating extra space... i moved one side of the square to the left, and got a space of at least 80x192 studs.. The XXL Assembly Square measures 32 x 152 and when i put that on the left side of the square, i end up with a space of 4 baseplates 48x48... so now i have a new project.... finding a destination for those 9216 studs (4x48x48)....road....park....market??? But first i will fit the XXL Assembly Square in, after i have finished it!! Here some pictures of the space i created!
  12. Yes, i'm pretty satisfied with that integrated turret too... it just should be there to break up the structure of the windows!! Taking away tow pretzels seems to be a very detailed action, but it could create indeed an other look... i will sure think of that!!! it is great to get so many kind words and moreover, hearing that so many of you get inspired! I will never reach the skill of making a Modular of my own, but using Original Lego sets to make something that also inspires AFOL's is a very big compliment to me! Great to hear i've inspired you... and apparently you are working the same way i do... I Always build one Original set first... after that, i start modding it... When you build one set first, you better see how it is constructed and you also see the possibilities for expansions way better! I Always try to create the XL with the parts from only two or three sets, but sometimes you just have to bricklink some parts to get it perfect!! I hope to see work from you very soon.. the picture is really very promising!!! Have fun building! The middle bakery-shop still has no interior... i'm considering making something different of it.. maybe a clothing-shop or so.... we'll see....or a pop-up Lego-shop....;-) Thanks for your inspiring remarks! Creating space between the two bigger buildings is a bit of a problem..i already made the whole setting too wide... almost too wide to fit it into my Square-layout... ! I now have one florist left as a 16 wide stand alone, and i could put it anywhere... first i have to make space in the layout!! Now you pushed me into modding that floor too....... We'll see.. i'm almost running out of buildinginspiration.. after having put almost 12.000 bricks on eachother, i will leave the XXL MOD for a while and then start fine-tuning it...!
  13. Well, here it is.. i also made a new topic for it... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/146209-lego-10255-xxl-assembly-square-mod/
  14. That would be a funny idea.....!! I see what you mean with the repetitiveness of the three bakery-windows.. tried to 'glue' the window-roofs together, so it looks more lik one unit.. together with a few minifigs and maybe an other detail, it should look better...I posted a picture of it here above.. maybe this looks better in your opinion!! About the florist buildings... there are more of those situations in my layout, and it is just something i can deal with.. but again, i see what you mean!! Thanks Chilis! It is indeed not surprising, but it was sometimes hard to decide what to do with the buildings.. i also do not want to have too much parts left.. so i will incorporate a lot of the parts in one of the buildings.. The facade however is too nice to change... I think the third turret wasn't a bad idea....it wasn't easy as well, and i think it does look good!
  15. Oh no, i just have a very moderate office job...nothing special...but point is that i do not spend much money on other thing than my family. This year i could chose between Lego or go skiing for a week.. well...you know what i chose for... On the other hand.. this all keeps it's value..so you'd better spend it on Lego than a car or whatever...! Close up from the music shop! Some more close-ups:
  16. Thanks! About the double florist in the middle, i already got beyond the point of no return....and i decided to keep one florist as a stand alone 16 wide building... perhaps near the right florist on the picture......I wanted to keep the cafe and musicshop together as one large building, and i kept the dentist/bakery/turret-buiding also as one large building.....Getting the third turret in the middle of the building was the hardest thing... especially around the base floor it was almost a puzzle to get it look right!
  17. I will kill one of them, and have the other one take care of both shops...
  18. I combined som things and 90% of the rooms already have an interior.... it will take some time to get that better!
  19. After getting my third set i went on with the XXL version of the Assembly Square.. so far i ended up with this! The turret building is looking pretty good to me now!
  20. Well, my son said the same.. he is 7 years old and told me i could use the pizza sign from the Pizza-van for the the front of the building (middle section) a cafe on both sides may look a bit weird, so i could do some design modifications there, so it seems there are two different cafe's on both side of the pizza-place! But again, still not sure if this will work!
  21. In the current setup, there will be a connection... also on the mirrorbuilt side.. I have one 16 wide florist left from the third set and will use that as a stand alone, to fill up 'gaps' in my layout!
  22. That will take some time... maybe start of february before i'm totaly done with the XL MOD...
  23. Positive thing about Market Street is, that there must have been a lot of interest at that time... at least positive enough to make modulars for 10 years now! It is my less beautifull modular too, but it stays a building of the modular series!
  24. For the last two weeks i've been working on this Lego 10255 Assembly Square modification. I managed in getting three original sets. The last set was delivered yesterday and so i could go one with this pretty large build. As you can see the ground floor is still a large hole. Only the corners are both the original café! Left side is mirrorbuilt. I had to add a few tan plates to get a sturdy floor. Still working on the backside.. i made a bay window, but i'm not sure about that yet, so no pictures from that side yet! I have been working on the rest of the building too. The bakery/turret building looks promising to me, and maybe i can show some pictures later this weekend! The rest of the XL MOD will be revealed soon.. i hope my idea gives a lot of people inspiration for modifying this set into a slightly different street! So far the whole MOD is 136 studs wide... but i will add another 16 studs (stand alone florist) to that, so the total will be 152 studs wide and will have about 11.000 pieces! Any comments, suggestions? This is the first picture of my WIP of the Lego 10255 Assembly Square! I might change a bit here and there.. it is just a WIP!
  25. Oh no...you guys step jump and kick on our Dutch historic buildings, because all our houses in the Netherlands look like the Market Street... I'm happy to own one...as i'm from the same country as the designer of the Market Street...
