  1. It certainly doesn't look like a lack of tan bricks! You've used more of them than I have in my collection right now. In any case, good looking on the MOC.
  2. Yet to be included in any of my MOCs, my avatar is my "sig-fig", At the moment everything is an unadulterated and plain minifig part, except for the head which comes from SW Mace Windu. I am hoping to give the torso a decal.
  3. Well done winners!
  4. I'm getting rather anxious to see what the final vote was. I posted a link to the thread on BrickLink last night, to help the cause.
  5. With no pedestal or high horse in sight, I would support keeping weapons and violence out of official Town sets - but if someone wants to include them in their own sets they ought to be free to do so. And this comes from someone who owns a [bB] shotgun.
  6. I definitely like your version the best, not least because it's in slick black.
  7. Welcome to the show rday1982! Good to see someone else representing the UK.
  8. I was really hoping for minifig part colour changes, particularly the bandanna and the bobbed female hairstyle (which were two of my suggestions). I also voted for the black 32 x 32 baseplate. In the second list I voted for transparent clear parts: I'd suggested clear slope parts, but after seeing how horrendously rare and expensive 1 x 1 tiles were I voted for them too. Such a shame I could only vote for five items in both lists.
  9. How about some of these things: a lido (indoor swimming pool) a skating park an ice cream parlour a casino a cable car station a marina Just thinking out loud. I really like the idea of an energy series; a nuclear power plant immediately springs to mind. I also like the clamper and the supermarket ideas, and especially Tour de France. I have a feeling we'll see something along the lines of a cruise ship.
  10. Hmmm... I'm not sure whether I've inspired people or they've had those models all along, but it's all good. It's great to see the variations in designs, which gave me ideas for things I didn't think of. I think I'm headed toward the retro look, not least because of the tan walls: apart from the greys and white, tan was probably the only colour which all the wall pieces were available in. (I got caught out by an unused blue for the weather section.) I'm also a fan of retro.
  11. I also thought of The Matrix when I saw this, which is officially only cool if it's done in Lego. In its own right, I think this is a great vignette.
  12. That is really cool! I like what you did with the world map int he background. I might have to "borrow" the idea for the HDTV.
  13. Therein lies a challenge: what to do? have a green screen instead of the weather map Use something else for the display (eg. paper or decorated tiles) to simulate a green screen go old school and use what I have now. Thanks for the compliments so far, I've got the first few parts on order so I may be able to start building.
  14. Update... Set 1: News desk with a retractable display. Includes Billy Mays and anchorwoman minifigures. Set 2: Weather station (minus the crazy weather girl). A combination of blue tiles and green plates to make up the map, and various coloured round plates for indicators. Set 3: Cameraman and boom microphone operator. (Minifigures may differ.) Set 4: ???
  15. It is going to be a brick build! I was thinking of building the "studio" in separate parts, perhaps even modular: the news desk would be one part, the weather section another and the camera people and cameras yet another.
  16. That MOC and the scenery is just insane. It must have taken a long time!
  17. While I'm waiting for the remaining parts for the exhibit display to arrive, I thought I'd give another idea a go. Initially I thought of creating a very small vignette with a "weather girl" and a display. Then I got to thinking: one thing I haven't seen, either as a set or an MOC, is a news desk. So this is the very beginning of the news desk area, in LDD: (Hi, Billy Mays (R.I.P) here for the Lego'clock News!) I've restricted myself to the bricks available via Design by Me (which is very restrictive!), just to see how much they'd charge. That's why the colours are off, and the figures aren't the ones I'd like. I could use some ideas for things to add to the scene, or even things to change.
  18. Nice! Very inventive use of the accessories and utilities - particularly with the "beaker" and the stool. You've done this before..!
  19. That would scare the crap out of me if it actually happened! Very nice MOC by the way.
  20. Thanks very much for the compliments, folks. :) One thing I'm particularly pleased about was the decision to make the roofs white to match the buildings. If I wanted to go through Design By Me, I would have had to make them red. @prateek: Very tempting thought!
  21. That is pretty cool!
  22. Thank you very much! I never really thought about dystopia before you mentioned it, but it really is a good description of what I was going for. I guess that's my style.
  23. Having seen all these detailed buildings which I couldn't hope to match, I decided to try something completely different... This is basically a plan of a fictional town in one of my projects, which is actually modelled after an existing place. All of the buildings, roads and features were committed from memory, and it was just a case of determining how to construct the buildings and which colours to use. I don't recall how much it cost to build, but it couldn't have been done without the help of at least four BrickLink sellers. Also, although it looks basic, it took a good three hours to construct (following LDD's building instructions). One of these days I'll set something up to take better quality pictures. View the rest of them here.
  24. I'll elaborate... The ability to unhide pieces using the Hide tool; Sometimes when using the Hide tool, I'd accidentally click on a piece I didn't want to hide - and then I'd have to reset the hidden pieces and start over. On second thought it would probably be too tricky to use the same tool to unhide pieces: I would suggest there be a second tool (which only appears if pieces are hidden) which can select hidden pieces to unhide. The ability to organise the different parts manually; Yes, moving them to different categories, or perhaps custom part groups. I suggest this mainly because specific kinds of parts (like doors, windows and hinges) are spread across different groups - some in groups I'd have no idea they were in. Take screenshots of the model with the background (or turn the background off); One can take a screenshot of the model with a white background at the moment with the shortcut or menu item. (Actually it creates a PNG with alpha transparency, which is cool). If I ever wanted to take a picture of the model with one of the backgrounds provided in LDD, I'd have to do a screen capture and then go into my favourite image editing program. Just thinking it might be a useful feature for someone. Improved grouping of model pieces. It turns out I was confused about the way groups worked in LDD. I thought it worked like other 3D programs, where I could click on a part in a group and it would select the rest of the parts in that group as well (similar to the connected selector). I just found that grouped parts are selected in one of the tabs on the left, rather than clicking on parts in the model. I see this has been requested before! I managed to figure out how the Hinge Align tool is used from watching a YouTube video. One of the problems I've faced is trying to make a minifig grip the handlebar piece, which I thought it was for.
