Sorry to go off topic for a post but seeing Pythor who I think is a stand-out minifig for 2012, I was reminded of Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc. Not really alike but isn't it funny how your brain makes connections. So, not being a big fan of Ninjago but liking certain elements of it, who are the characters with the snake tails besides purple Pythor? I'm just using their colours to differentiate them in my head at the moment - Black, blue, red, green, Pythor.

Old style stylized creatures and animals versus newer versions
Jargo replied to Calabar's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You can't live in the rose tinted glow of childhood and those old animals served their purpose and had their time. Kids expect different things now. the new animals reflect that. At some point change has to happen, that's evolution in progress. Lego can't make time stand still and if you don't like the way things change you always have the personal choice and right to not buy a set or sell on the parts you don't like. Or, build a bridge and get over it. -
That's a custom fig using designs by Toth. He made them available to use in a thread here at EB a while back. It is a nice Vampire but the official one is the one we've seen wearing red.

The man bat appears to have a new huge bat ears hairpiece as well as having those winged arms. In the toyfair picture group shot of sets he can be found hanging upside down from the castle's shortest tower. in the video he's quite clearly seen on the castle box art.

They're dark tan not olive green. look at them in relation to the dark green leaves and the bright green brick. then in relation to the the browns. definitely dark tan.

I think the only mining set I like is the pick up truck in set 4200. Though it's nice to know that 'there's gold in them there Lego hills' I don't think I need a huge gold mine. What I really want to see is the minifigs. We know they have very cool hard hats with lamps on the front but are there new torsos? It looks that way from the german toyfair pic but with no close ups it's hard to tell for sure.

I remember people here shooting me down for daring to suggest the horse should be updated. And here it is. The horse pulling Gandalf's cart looks like he'd make a great Bill the pony. "He knows the way home". I won't be buying sets but I'll definitely want the horses, the one ring, new hair pieces and various bits and bobs. I'm really curious about the hobbit sets. Can't wait to see how the dwarves turn out. in the movies they have such fantastic hair and beards.

I love the monster fighter green torso. that's destined to become another lumberjack in my city. Hate the werewolf and the claws look stupid. Like he's holding a bunch of table knives. The vampyress looks more threatening than the Vampire. either they should have given both red eyes or both black eyes. The monster fighter vehicles are rubbish. The plane swamp craft and that thing in the Frankenstein's lab set especially. I'm not going to be buying this theme. It's a mess like ninjago and superheroes. Though one or two of the minifigs are cool and I'll get those from BL along with any decent pieces that crop up.

yes please do. if nothing else then pics of the other MF minifigs would be fantastic.

Dang I thought I had Haldir listed. Has there ever been a licensed theme that had so many different minifigs right off the bat?

So there's 17 unique minifigs across 6 sets. That's pretty impressive. 1. Gandalf 2. Aragorn 3. Boromir 4. Theoden 5. Eomer 6. Legolas 7. Frodo #1 jacketless 8. Frodo #2 with jacket 9. Samwise 10. Merry 11. Pippin 12. Gimli 13. Gollum 14. Moria Orc 15. Mordor Orc 16. Uruk-Hai 17. Ringwraith Articulated horse Big angry Troll Shelob Did I miss anyone? I doubted this theme would happen and I'm stunned that it has and how well it's turned out so far. I'm guessing Lego has the license until the second hobbit movie has done the cinemas around the world. Say, June 2014. so that'd be enough time for a second wave of LOTR and the Hobbit sets. I think I like the look of the upcoming sets. I definitely love the minifigs. Not sure I'll buy actual sets. Might just get the minifigs or just new parts. Finances are really tight this year. I'm feeling guilty spending money on a few CMF purchases so I've no idea how I'd square the cost of these sets. Hope there's a chess set as that would swell armies.

The Swamp thing movie from the 1980's had Swamp thing fairly smooth skinned and was distincly non-vegetable.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
Jargo replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think they'll end at ten series. It's a nice round number. Plus, go out on a high with people still wanting them. If people still want them Lego can revive them and up the price. win win win for Lego because people will still buy them at a dollar more. -
Lego's HP license will have run out anyway as it will have been only for the period covering the film releases. which is a hefty chunk of time for a license. Lego had it from at least 1999 with the first set appearing in 2001. 54 sets were produced according to brickset: 2001 (11 sets) 2002 (11 sets) 2003 (2 sets) 2004 (11 sets) 2005 (5 sets) 2007 (1 set) 2010 (6 sets) 2011 (7 sets) With additional stuff like keyrings and magnets. I don't think anyone can complain at that.

It would be easier to attach ears to the Orc's hair or helmet same as with the CMF elf werewolf and Viking woman. That way a person could mix and match minifigs with fantasy Orcs. I don't think Lego would make a new head just to attach ears to. They're far more likely to create new headgear than new heads.

So is Toth working for Lego now? Looking at his portfolio there's a lot of design work similar to minifigs we've seen produced recently. Excellent stuff in that portfolio if you're reading Toth.

I really don't like the werewuluf. The Dracula torso is nice and Frankenstein's monster looks suitably messed up. The human characters are great. Love those. Hopefully February will bring us official pics of the sets.

that looks like they've used moulds from imitation brands. Like Oxford and those other Chinese brands. the rubber dinghy looks very familiar.

The fantasy troll in dark tan would be my preference though I'm looking forward to the LOTR troll. I've hated the HP troll since I first clapped eyed on it. It might be the face or the colour or the horrible construction or the cloth clothing. It's hideous. The fantasy troll has a kind of puppy dog look to its face but is at least blocky and heavy looking. Mean and dangerous.

I mentioned in the pink brick box thread but just thought I'd mention it here. There's a new criminal torso in set 4636 'Police building set. which is pretty good. a nice grey hoody over his convict shirt. although slightly marred by the convicts number being centered on the chest instead of being on the right partialy obscured by the hoody top. It's no biggy. the fact that there's a fifth unique criminal torso is great. Hope there are more the next time police sets are released. we're slowly getting enough to fill a prison wing. Could do with some more of the orange jumpsuit criminal like the one from World city's police HQ. Also the pink brick box set 4625 brings us this great female torso These are the only new torsos in the build and rebuild series of sets. Just thought City fans who don't normaly bother with creator type sets might like the info.
-
Any one have an inventory of the new pink brick box, 4625-1?
Jargo replied to TheWarden's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't really have anything constructive to add to this thread but just wanted to comment on the minifig torso. As it's such a decent one and a new one. I'm not going to buy the pink brick box but I'll definitely be getting the torso from bricklink or ebay. Same with the new criminal torso in set 4636 Police building set. It's fantastic that new torso pieces are arriving in low profile sets. especially when it's quality like the purple one in this set and the criminal hoody torso from the other. -
Yes Lego minifigs are cartoon-ish. The ghost seems too much so. too lacking in detail, I just don't see it as a ghost like I can see the skeleton as a skeleton. I think the ghost needs to look more like a minifig maybe even make the whole minifig out of GITD plastic. ghosts appear like the person or creature that lived. the spectral horses in the mummy set look somewhat right. The shroud type ghost seems like a fancy dress costume. If Lego are going to do ghosts they should take the design cues from pirates and castle and town to create more credible and cohesive ghost characters. Full minifigures with headgear and accessories like matching spectral swords or guns or whatever. the shroud ghost is just silly. Fit for Duplo, not system.
-
I've never been a fan of the ghost shroud. Perhaps with the new one if they'd had the arms out to the sides [like the 'gargoyles'] with ghostly wrapping hanging off the arms and a head more akin to a minifig I might be a fan. The old and new ghost just look too cartoon-ish to me. An easy pass on the train set. I'll probably not bother with this theme besides the minifigs I like. The monster fighters themselves, the vampires, Frankenstein and monster if they look ok. The vehicles don't interest me and nor do the settings. The rehashing and meshing of old themes is starting to bore me. I'd prefer to get a bunch of themed minifigs on a theme in a simple box without a bunch of bricks. I don't have money to spend on expensive sets just to get a few parts I want. I suspect a lot of people feel the same. Maybe it's time Lego went back to the old 'six minifigures in a box' set idea. pocket money sized to cater for poorer purchasers. battlepacks don't cut it. though there's room for those too I'd just prefer to have a biodegradable box than a plastic blister and one of each minifig instead of multiples of the same minifig.
