Aside from baseplates and cypress trees I don't miss any of this stuff. I'm quite happy with the way things have progressed. Prices could be lower to allow me to buy more but there's really no nostalgia here. I prefer to look ahead rather than back. I'm sure Lego would rather people do that too. And while the odd piece may make a comeback or a set has a nod to an old model I think that's enough.

OOOOOOOOOOOH - The Klaw, the Klaw is our master! The Klaw chooses who will go and who will stay.

That glider is a really nice model. Shame the car and trailer are so poor. Still it's only an airline exclusive. It'll be an easy job to recreate the glider with either the online instructions or just build it using clues in the photo. I certainy won't be chasing it down to buy. My town won't be having a major airport I've decided to just have a small airfield so a glider is well suited to that.

1600's/17th century. Powdered wigs, Ladies and dandies about town. Georgian architecture and horse drawn carriages. Beggars and thieves. Highwaymen and farm estates. Grand opera and banquets and masked balls. Opulence and dirt. Sedan chairs. That style of architecture fits into any modern city too so it would benefit more than historical theme fans. It would also nestle up nicely to pirate themes and provide a larger vista to set the ships against. It's also a period of such stark contrasts. The seeds of the industrial age were being planted. We began to learn so much about the world. New science was at war with established learning. Colour was everywhere, craftsmanship and artistry. Influences from far flung exotic lands. One thing that strikes me though is that any city is a mish-mash of historical periods. So why not have several waves of city sets with each one a different period of history? Or mix it up further with each wave consisting of sets from across history.

If Lego made a 3x2 tile they could so much better with their printing of things like this. clipboards, newspapers, music... the possibilities are vast.

Ah but they do kill. Billy's teacher, Mrs. Deagle, Dr. Catheter. And Stripe was hell bent on Billy's annihilation. I agree that the WWII gremlin tales were pranky rather than evil but I'm talking about the movies.

I felt nostalgic so I watched Gremlins 2 The new batch. It's a very patchy movie now that I view it with much older eyes but entertaining. Not nearly enough jeopardy. Or malice from the Gremlins which is disappointing as the original did have that element of danger and threat. I still root for the Gremlins. Something that struck me re-watching this is how besides Billy and Kate none of the characters have any redeeming values. It's almost as if they should be killed by the Gremlins so justice is served but we're robbed of that satisfaction and at the end of the movie very little has actually changed. The movie is a pastiche of the original which in itself was a pastiche of 50's B-movies so in the end it doesn't work. It's too bright, too cutesy and lacks substance. Eve the presence of Christopher Lee as Dr. Catheter is wasted. Lee gives a great performance but it's better suited to the original movie's tone. It doesn't surprise me in the least that Warner Brothers didn't go with Gremlins 3. All in all I'd say gremlins 2 should be taken as a stand alone and not as a sequel to Gremlins. Any future Gremlins project would have to be a prequel or a remake in my opinion. I think the problems of using puppets for the Gremlins really shows in Gremlins 2 so some CGI would have to be utilised to bring the critters to life and achieve a better realisation. Less broad comedy would be better too. The darker the humour the more suited to the theme. More blood too. Those Gremlins have teeth and claws like razors and obviously know how to use them. We didn't really see that in the original but because Spielberg softened it up for family viewing but originally those Gremlins were savage. Beheading Billy's Mother and biting chunks out of people. Not sure about the beheading but definitely the biting should have stayed. Perhaps less focus on cutesy wutesy Gizmo and merchandising opportunities would have made Gremlins 2 a better movie. Certainly that Gizmo dancing scene should never have made it past the cutting room. I give this movie 5 out of 10. It's got Gremlins but they're lame ones.

Do any of your significant others share your love of Lego?
Jargo replied to dark1san's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes, in a way. Not in the same way I love Lego but he has his own sets ad will sometimes join me in building when he has the time or is in the mood. He's also not bothered by the fact I have so much and spend so much time on it. He came with me to Legoland Windsor and smiles indulgently when I waffle on about Lego. If I have an idea for a build and run it past him he'll often suggest things I hadn't thought of. Apparently as a boy he spent a lot of time on his own playing with Lego. Much as I did. -
How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
Jargo replied to Legacy Man's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I haven't kept a record but well in excess of £500 GBP which might not be a lot considering the cost of Lego these days but my budget is tiny. Actually thinking about it, it's probably close to £1,000. Amazing how little Bricklink orders mount up. -

Ok, 'England is too stubborn to let the islands go'. You knew what I meant though and you're just being nit-picky and pedantic. Mr Man, I haven't got the patience. Instead I've got my eye on a useless barren chunk of china. I'll go and stick a British flag in it and then when the Chinese complain I'll claim it was always ours and any natural resources belong to the UK. Then when China tries to evict me the armed forces can come and have a silly little war conflict. It'll be great for the Government and the BBC and Daily Mail readers. Even better for flag manufacturers. Britain always looks so cheery with St George cross bunting strung up everywhere. We'll be able to put a pink bit back on the maps.

England will never give Northern Ireland back to the Irish. Not while there's still oil and gas in the Irish sea. In the same way England will never give up North sea oil and gas to the Scottish. No matter what Alexander Elliot Anderson Salmond says. In all the wrangling over Independence compromise will be made but England is too stubborn to let go of important assets unless there's buggar all left. It's the same with the Falklands. There's actually no real oil deposits there but England is just too stubborn to let Argentina have the islands back. At least, while we have a strong Conservative voice in government. In ten years of test drilling no significant oil field has been found in the Falklands. The current government is technically inciting Argentina to declare war so there's a rematch. The middle east has been a damp squib and every Prime Minister wants a victory. Especially a conservative one. Plus a war means lots of people joining the armed forces so unemployment figures go down. War gives Joe Public a distraction from the subterfuges of government policy and dictate. War provides justification for tax rises and budget cuts. It's essentially a carbon copy of Thatcher's era. With some stolen Blair ideas. Unfortunately the current cabinet is mostly made up of buffoons and airheads. William Jefferson Hague has proved he couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery. He's our Foreign secretary and First Secretary of State and he hasn't a clue. George Gideon Oliver Osborne is intent on a return to the feudal system of the middle ages. Andrew David Lansley is destroying the NHS. Theresa Mary May seems to spend most of her time shopping for hideous sci-fi inspired clothing and apologising for foul-ups on her watch. It's a terrible hollow joke. The fact is that the notion of empire still smothers our chances of progress. The church of England and the monarchy get in the way of progress. The idiots in Whitehall get in the way of progress. We can't become a properly functioning nation unless things change radically. First ad foremost among the changes needed is giving the British public a say. We elect these morons to office and then suddenly we're cut off from the process. There needs to be a process of referendum on all important issues. This is our lives and welfare, it's only right we should have a say. The kingdom is founded on the right to free speech and freedom of choice yet there really isn't any freedom. David William Donald Cameron's big society is just a way of absolving responsibility not giving people choice and empowering them. It's a sly cost cutting exercise. Joe Public can't afford to run the big society. The only people who can are the rich, like Cameron and his chums. He talks about knuckling down and accepting austerity yet he's a multi-millionaire who will never feel the pinch and punch of austerity. Joe Public needs to start saying No, enough of the crap and bare faced lies. If you want to stay in your job then we want to be heard and included in the decision making. We don't live in the 1940's any more though Cameron seems to think so. And he's no Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill or Clement Richard Attlee either. He and his cronies are Muppets doing a terrible job of impersonating real politicians. They don't deserve the jobs. This has been an ill-informed post on the behalf of the grumpy old man party.

Is that spam ^^^ I have no idea what that's about.

I use an IKEA desk very similar to this minus the pull-out section. Mine is also deeper. It's quite large but does have plenty of room underneath and a decent building area. The plastic drawer units I store my lego in have a lipped top so I can use those areas for building too. This one seems quite good and not too expensive. a building area and a place to put stuff.

Unfortunately you don't have that right. Walmart owns ASDA stores. Argos is part of the Home Retail Group who also own Homebase and Habitat. As part of the recent Argos rebranding all items previously only found in Argos Extra stores will be available to all Argos stores though stock levels will still depend on local demand. You can of course have items delivered to your local store from other locations if it isn't in stock.

My partner has learned not to ask about my purchases. I do occasionally 'sneak' orders from Bricklink in though. If the postman delivers while my partner is out walking the dog I'll take the delivery straight to my room and sort it into relevant drawers and then bury the packaging in the main dustbin. It's harder to hide bigger purchases. I just bought a few of the current city sets and they arrived in huge boxes so there was no point trying to hide them. It's not that I'm ashamed it's more a case that my partner worries too much about money needlessly. I'm just avoiding the protracted lectures about it by squirrelling stuff away. It makes life a little more peaceful that way.

I'm giving it some thought though I'm not terribly au fait with Gotham. Perhaps when I move into my new room later this month I'll give it a go. I've just organised the gallery by groupings so all the Victorian ones are now together. And I added some new doodles.

Icarus wasn't a hero he was a gauche child. In truth Daedalus hated his son and preferred his nephew. The nephew also died in one of Daedalus' stupid experiments but that's what you get for expecting children to be able to fly like a bird. So technically Daedalus killed two children. He then escaped from Crete and made his way to Thera (modern Santorini) where he lived a wretched life like he deserved. However, as a representation of the children's storybook version of Icarus this hits the mark.

One thing that needs correcting is that Prometheus isn't a prequel. It's set in the same universe and has connections to the alien franchise but sits separate from the franchise. in the same way that AVP is separate from the Aliens quadrilogy. Similar attributes but not part of the whole.

I have no objections. I'm quite curious as to how the designs would look in 3D. I assume you're looking for fresh Gotham city inhabitants?

New BrickWarriors Products - Feb 2012
Jargo replied to Thrash's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I love the scroll. Hope to see that in tan or dark tan some time. I could definitely use a bunch of those. -
Did you know that technically it's called 'street furniture' by those in the city planning departments. Just an FYI. Including post boxes, bus stops, railings and bollards. I don't think Lego would do a set just for that stuff but perhaps including two or three maintainance minifigs or civillians would give it a better chance. As an update to this set from 2009 City minifigures 8401

Nice tiles and microfigs. I'm sure I could find a use for most of those. The rest seems an ok parts pack but the game offers little to me. thanks for the clear review xtremegoogler

Perfect design for a street corner. There's a petrol gas station just like that near my home.
