Animal sinews, actually. Better not to be too accurate here :) -

Soft axles aren't the way to go, they are way too soft as you have noticed. You could try regular axles instead, working like torsion bars. Tension would be much higher and you would have to reinforce the whole thing well, but I'm sure it would shoot better. -
Highest RPM electric motor?
Sariel replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LEGO speed computer is inaccurate like Hell. And if you think of some astonishing speed record, I'm afraid you may be disappointed. It takes a lot of effort to break 10 kmph with LEGO, and the fastest I've ever seen pure LEGO go was a bit over 20 kmph. These are simple plastic pieces, with lots of friction. They will never get near to what high-end RC cars can do. -
Highest RPM electric motor?
Sariel replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Technically, this motor has highest RPM: However, it doesn't have to meet your needs because it's terribly, terribly weak. If RPM alone determined speed, this would be a rocked - but it doesn't. -

That, sir, is exquisitely executed MOC. -

IN DISPAIR
Sariel replied to 88high's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry to add to it, but the word is "despair", not "dispair". -
The Lite Diwheel
Sariel replied to Phoxtane's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
MLCad has Hailfire Droid wheels, you could make a very good instruction with it and with LPub. But then there's the problem of very few people owning these extra-rare wheels. -

I though you can't create folders on iPod unless it's jailbroken :P -

Or, shorter: http://gears.sariel.pl/ This may help too: http://scaler.sariel.pl/ Unfortunately, I'm not hipster enough to turn my software into iSomething apps ;) -
Trial Trucks galore
Sariel replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There are some regulations, quite complex in fact. These people would never drive without writing a thick book of regulations ;) However, I'm not familiar with them, from what I know the Cross Country is supposed to be fast racing of small, simple 4x4 cars with suspension. -
Trial Trucks galore
Sariel posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have lost the track of the topic where videos from Polish Truck Trial used to go, and in any case we have a new video formula: shorter, featuring just selected, nice fragments of the race. Enjoy: -
Power puller wheels
Sariel replied to Omikron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Be aware that these wheels are not as useful as they appear to be. They are very heavy, very wide and hence difficult in steering, and they have very high rolling resistance which makes them real "torque eaters" for motorized vehicles. The new Unimog wheels from the 8110 set perform way better - you can consider them as an alternative. -
Coming out this Fall. A little reading: http://sariel.pl/2012/06/my-book-out-this-year/ The book can be pre-ordered at lower price at Amazon and Amazon.co.uk. It will also be available as an ebook. I hope you will enjoy it and thank you for your patience - I've been working on it for one and half year now.

Thanks. I don't think any differential drive is going to withstand the power of 4 XL motors. I've built a 3 kg heavy tracked vehicle with 2 XL motors and differential drive, and the gears inside the differentials kept getting broken repeatedly. Differentials are simply too sensitive for that kind of torque.
