  1. I also sometimes feel that part of the community views the Technic line as some kind of aberration. It's as if people who build things that look shy away things that work. I remember once having a discussion with the Brothers Bricks crew who said plain and simply that they ignore Technic MOCs on a principle because they, quote "don't understand how they work". Which means that if a model looks good, everything is fine, but if it for example looks good and drives, it should be sprinkled with the Holy Water or something. But then I view Bionicle line as an aberration, so who am I to complain? ;) On a more cheerful note, good to see you around Jennifer :)
  2. Siegfred, would you be so kind as to correct topic name by replacing 'Mach 40' with 'Mark II'?
  3. The write-up is finally here: http://sariel.pl/2012/01/ford-gt40/
  4. I've just seen the photos of your collection - are you sure this is your home and not Heaven? :)
  5. Thank you. As far as new panels go, it's my second try after my Jeep Wrangler, but that was small and from completely different category of cars :) I believe it can be actually less advanced than your Vampire GT.
  6. Sure, I can live with that :) But I should mention that your amazing line of studless supercars was a serious motivation for me to try to build something on my own!
  7. Thanks Paul. I hope you'll like the video too - just make sure you view it in HD. And yes, it's based on the Mark II. The description at my website will follow tomorrow, I just need time to finish it.
  8. Just a vignette. The context should be familiar for most of you, I hope. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sariel/JustAFleshWound/1.jpg My goal was to make this scene instantly recognizable while using minimum customization. So eventually I ended up painting Black Knight's helmet matte black (it's the only LEGO helmet I consider fitting and it does not come in black) and using two small bits of black plasticine to secure the spurting "blood". I was also trying to pose the combatants so as to suggest a natural body movement, hard as it is with the limited amount of limbs available. The rest of the photos: And the original scene: I'm basically a Technic builder, so please be gentle with me :)
  9. It takes about two clicks: http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/
  10. Aren't the photos too small?
  11. I have once used MLCad to design outer shell of a cab of my Scania truck model. The result: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sariel/ScaniaRacingTruck/dsc05612.png But it only happened once, primarily because I was going to order red pieces for this model and I wanted to quickly figure out what to order, plus honestly it started as just a rough sketch, I did not intend to design the entire cabin with all the details. At some point things just got out of hand ;) Now that I think of it, I sometimes use MLCad to see how some piece that I don't have and I'm about to order fits other pieces.
  12. I already have a technical reviewer that helps me with actual writing (that is, makes sure I only make few mistakes ;)), but of course you're free to review the book once it's out. I think it would be actually nice and helpful to drop a review here at EF. My, my, look where this topic has gone :)
  13. I'm finishing writing it as we speak. It will be out this year.
  14. I was exactly in the same position and I was warned by another builder who actually lost his RC unit in the course of such an experiment.
  15. Sorry to disappoint you, Ryan. Well, I'm a linguist so I do speak several languages more or less fluently (DLuders is too kind, though), but I have never been able to develop a proper British accent. Guess it takes being an actual Brit ;) Now that we're so far off-topic, linking this feels inevitable: http://theoatmeal.com/pl/minor_differences4/accents ;)
  16. Just to clear some of the confusion, here's the video of the actual M_longer's truck:
  17. Really really. I wish I could sound like that :)
  18. Arm aside, you, sir, have an awesome accent :)
  19. It's Dikke's Scania that drifts, not mine. Mine had exactly the same motors/receivers/batteries setup, but was much heavier and I didn't try drifting with it. Although given that it was very front-heavy, it could probably drift easily with plastic rear wheels.
  20. Burning to cinders, I'm afraid.
  21. RC motors have monstrous power consumption. Two are difficult to power properly. Four are plain crazy. RC unit is actually the only way to fully power two RC motors (not four - that would fry it). With PF elements, you're going to need a separate power supply for each single motor (and thus a separate IR receiver too), and they will still not run at full power. Plus, you will keep loosing the IR link because IR range is much shorter than RC range. Still, it may be enough for a lightweight vehicle - see this example: I strongly discourage you from connecting more than two RC motors to the RC unit or more than one RC motor to any PF element - there's a huge risk of frying these pieces. There actually are Lego sets that answer your needs, except that they are rare and expensive: this: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8366-1 or this: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8369-1
