Fast Bugggy
Sariel replied to Charbel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nicely filmed (I admire your color work), although not everyone will like the fact that you need to get through 1 minute of video to actually see the model. What I don't fully understand is why put "world's fastest" claim there if you're not ready to prove it. It is fast indeed, but no offence, from the video it looks like you didn't even bother to actually measure the top speed. -

Well, when legs are angled closer towards the body, they can handle more weight but the walking speed is lower. In opposite situation, you sacrifice load capacity and stability for raw speed. -

I actually made instructions for it: http://sariel.pl/downloads/ -

If I pursue the direction of making cars with legs, I think the final prize is a soft white jacket with really, really long sleeves ;) -

It is, you can add and remove pairs of legs. I'm wondering if it would be stable enough with just 6 legs. -

Yeah, you read it right. This time it grew legs. Because one of the things I love about Lego is how it allows you to try some really wild ideas. Photos, reading and instructions for the walking mechanism: http://sariel.pl/2015/01/walking-mini-cooper/ -

I've seen that one but only the Octan car caught my eye. -

By all means, do look it up: http://www.ibrickcity.com/wp-content/gallery/lego-3677/lego-3677-city-red-cargo-train-ibrickcity-7.jpg I was looking at Maersk long and hard, the engine in this set is a piece of art. But the entire rest is kind of like "meh", there is no single PF element nor a piece of track included, and it costs a kidney. I got 3677 for two thirds of Maersk's price. -

Yeah, I never even touched a Train set before. I've had some Monorail stuff for a while, but it's just not the same - it's pretty much impossible to build a Monorail engine or car as nice and detailed as in Train sets. I've been resisting temptation for years, but 60052 broke me :) The nice thing is, the engines seem easy to mod. My 60052 engine now runs on SBrick and with Lego LEDs in front and back - I've changed the insides a lot, but the exterior is almost intact. I intend to do the same with 3677. I don't like the current passenger trains though. They seem boring and not particularly pretty. -

Well, I bought 60052 and I'm loving it and now I'm waiting for my 3677 to arrive :) -
Sure, but you know it would end up bigger than the gearbox itself. I'm sure some kind of sequential mechanism can be added for this design, I was just looking for minimum response time and reliability. I mean, I don't like to have to take a look at the gearbox to see what speed it's at and whether some ring is engaged or not. Here, I only have to look at the remote.

Oh well, we can look into more recent history, too. Remember when Apple Maps was introduced, for instance? I do. At some point Australian authorities actually asked people not to use it because it almost got some folks killed. When Australians tell you something is deadly, you better listen ;)

90% of the time I'm controlling my GoPro from the app running on my smartphone. The app is really well done, so I have a hard time imagining a scenario where I dump that in favor or a minuscule touchscreen on the camera itself. But then, I haven't taken a really thorough look at the GoPro 4, so I may be missing something. Agree on the accessories, but you always have option to go with much cheaper knock-off accessories that are actually not far behind in terms of quality, from what I've seen. With Apple, I'm afraid anybody attempting a similar knock-off would get sued into smithereens.

Ranting aside, remind me, when did Apple actually produce any camera? Last I checked, they've used cameras by Sony in two last iPhones, and I believe Samsung was involved before. Oh wait, I remember. They made Apple QuickTake 200 back in '97 and it was such a disaster they pulled it off the market the same year :) PS. I'm not saying Apple is bad. I just like to remember this is a company that was perfectly sure a round-shaped mouse is a brilliant idea a few years ago ;)

Ah yessss, the legendary Apple's Rumored Features. Yeah, the same way iPhone is superior in every way to all the other smartphones in existence, once you unbend it ;) First of all, Apple is a well known patent troll. They once tried to sue Motorola over "touch to unlock" feature violating their "slide to unlock" patent, on the grounds that, and I'm not kidding, "a touch is essentially a zero length slide". So they're routinely trying to patent anything that comes to their minds, and one more patent doesn't actually have to mean a thing, other than they want to sit on it. Second, I have never in my life seen an Apple product I would like to buy. Keep in mind, there's like a dozen or two of similar cameras already on the market, competing hard with GoPro and some of them really good, but GoPro still dominates. Somehow I don't see them closing down the business just because Apple got some patent. There's a long way to go from a patent to a market-ready product, and if Apple's history is any indication, their new camera will cost you a kidney, have a kind of port nobody has heard about, take about 10 photos then leak them all over the iCloud, and it will stop taking pictures immediately after the first firmware upgrade ;) I'm perfectly happy with GoPro 3. So much, in fact, that I see no need to move to 4. If one day somebody releases a camera that is equally good but smaller and lighter while being compatible with all my GoPro accessories... well, then I'll still have a very good camera that will serve me for years to come.

Oh, you mean mudguards. It's the good old large brick arch plus some bricks that keep it connected to the bonnet: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6060 -
