  1. My understanding was that Dual-Strike counts as targeting two different enemies, whereas Dyric's crossbow (like Matthias' handcannon) will hit three, but only count as targeting 1. If that's incorrect, I apologize. Also, Dyric's Dual-Strike handcannon does double damage against ice, whereas his crossbow does not, so the effective WP of the handcannon is higher (30) than the crossbow (26).
  2. Crap, you're right, his only elemental weapon is Ice. Guts can only damage the Cabin Boy. Same for Prince David. Dyric should be able to deal double damage, plus dual-strike, to any of the others with the Double-Barreled Handcannon... unless I am missing something. We're going to take a free hit from the Marauders since they are hastened; if Guts uses his Tiger Balm, then attacks two enemies, he won't cause damage to the Marauders but he will keep us from taking a free hit. Suggested Battle Order > Guts (turn 1): Tiger Balm vs. Enemies > Dyric: Double-Barreled Handcannon vs. Crew A, Crew B > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Crew C > Guts (turn 2): M.U.C.A. vs. Marauders, Rapier vs. Cabin Boy David: Heal vs. first injured party member
  3. Matthias groans in indignation as the skeletons pour forth, and voices his agreement with Dyric's sentiment. "See? I told you necromancers are the worst." As his hooded comrade draws down on the cabin boy, the gnome gives him a funny look. "We're a little outnumbered - think you could occupy two of them? That way the Prince can focus on healing if needed. And I think I saw a firey hand-cannon in your pack - if you're not going to use it, I'm going to insist on borrowing it after this!" Done monologuing, the gnome braces for battle and fires the Extraordinaire at Undead Nordic Crew C (Crew B, Marauders) from the back row. None of us except Guts can take a Special from the mobs. We need to whittle down the numbers as quickly as possible. Suggested Battle Order: > Guts: Rapier vs. Marauders > Guts: M.U.C.A. vs. Crew B > Matthias: Extraordinaire vs. Crew C > Dyric: Double-Barreled Handcannon vs. Crew A, Cabin Boy > Prince David: Heal vs. Lowest Health Party Member; if none injured, Staff vs. Crew C Zeph, glad to have you back. Also, Matthias shouldn't have the Staff of Ennon or Noble Mask in his inventory any more - he gave them to Hybros before the split.
  4. Someone wants to go Infiltrator! I'll add my request: Matthias could really use a couple ranks of Bonaparte reputation right about now....
  5. Yeah, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop in this very straightfoward, get-the-treasure, bring-it-back quest.
  6. "Perhaps," Matthias agrees, "But I've revered Orrik my whole life - we had an anvil shrine in our home when I was growing up even though we're only barbers - and I never dreamed that this could be real. How many other ancient relics of great power must be floating around this world, lost in caverns or attics or basements?" Ninja'd! "If this is the ship we seek, we are the luckiest adventurers ever. Let's find out!" Matthias laughs and looks for a hatch.
  7. Overeager to jump on the bandwagon. Scum! Me? Never!
  8. Scum!
  9. Sorry for my absence, things got hairy at work this week but now it's the weekend! "Which god is that?" Matthias inquires guardedly, remembering the paladin influence's past effects on David. "Seems a sorry sodding gift to me anyway. Who wants to die?" "I'm inclined to agree, Master Guts - I still can't believe our first find was so easy. Orrik's power, just sitting there."
  10. Matthias huffs a tiny huff. I only thought it might be a little less awkward than talking about Prince David while he's right in front of us! he thinks. Matthias shivers and rubs his tiny shoulders with his tiny hands. "I almost wish I could stay warm here with you, Doctor Daneeka," he laments. "Lead on," he adds to Holla and the Prince.
  11. Matthias bows his head once again to the King. "Thank you, sire. Truly we appreciate your hospitality. Is there a room where we may speak in private?"
  12. "I know," the gnome agrees disinterestedly, "But they still give me the heebie-jeebies. Necromancers and snakes." Matthias turns back to face David. "I think we are all interested in seeing who you are, Prince." He glances towards Holla, then back to David. "Where exactly can we find this necromancer's shipwreck?"
  13. As Holla speaks, Matthias is struck by how strange the party's request must seem. Here are men struggling simply to meet the demands of one mortal life each, and we are seeking a fountain which gives life eternal. Surely such a thing would not be lost, if it were even real, he thinks, but then remembers the other unbelievable item in their cart, his vision, and the voice of Orrik. Or perhaps not.... The gnome's face blanches pale. "We appreciate your offer, of course," Matthias says to the Prince. Turning to Holla and Daneeka, his eyes are questioning. "Do you think it's worth it, Doctor? Or do you have other knowledge of the Fount's location? I'm not keen on anything even vaguely connected to necromancy, but this sounds like a great opportunity to me."
  14. Very much liking the idea of a warm night's respite from the blowing snow, Matthias twists the DDSSA into "on" mode and heaves the wagon with all the strength the mechanical arms can muster.
  15. Baba's just a really, really big rat/bat boss, right?
  16. Matthias hides his exasperation with Holla - some people never learn - and bows over his top hat. "King Valentino, I am honored by your memory," the gnome begins in genuine surprise. "How is your son?"
  17. Having picked up bits and pieces of the mystery of Eyric and Dyric but completely baffled at this point, Matthias listens with interest to see what Dyric will say.
  18. Matthias, well rested and refreshed, obliges Daneeka and very carefully engages the DDSSA, lifting the anvil onto the cart, ensuring it is well situated and secured. Hopping up onto the cart himself, he pauses for a meditative moment with his hands resting on the cool metal of the anvil's side, then seats himself as comfortably as possible and looks expectantly at Rone and Holla. "Ready when you are!"
  19. His chest swelling with pride at the frog's praise, Matthias wonders secretly if he'll ever deserve such words. Bowing one last time to the departing priest, he swivels back to Talligard and the others. "That is a very kind offer, Lady Talligard. Master Guts, Master Dyric, I think I could do with a chance to rest; do we have time?"
  20. Matthias gingerly sents the Anvil down in the center of the hall, and nods along with Dyric. "Yes." Mopping sweat from his brow, the gnome regards Daneeka's mechanical arms with high regard, noting that his reverence for the Anvil, not the physical exertion of carrying it, is the cause of his sweat. Turning towards the back of the party, Matthias gives a small bow. "The blessings of your gods go with you, High Priest Pylon. I regret that we could not attend to the evil in Haddon together, and indeed that I am unable to accompany you on a search for Sir Poletad as I am otherwise obligated. Peace go with you."
  21. I'm not even sure what that means. I assume it's Guts saying that? Matthias nods the tiniest bit - it's hard to move your head when you're smushing your face against an anvil several times your size - and takes a few steps forward, passing the others, but then he stops. "Ummm, I would lead the way, but I can't see a thing. Would someone else mind walking up front?"
  22. In ignorance of all that's being said around him, Matthias stands stock still holding the anvil a few inches off the ground. He shudders, finally, and sets the weight down. "This is the anvil," he pronounces. "I will carry it." The gnome gathers himself, picks the anvil up once again, and turns to face the party. "What are we waiting for?"
  23. "Me too," Matthias admits, standing next to the anvil that's bigger than he is.
  24. Matthias rolls his eyes, giving Holla a look of contempt. "Yes, Master Guts, we're all sure that you'll be very fair, just like you always are." "Too bad you just don't care about anyone but yourself," he adds as they walk away, speaking in the frogs' tongue so that only Pylon understands. Clearly sceptical, Matthias nonetheless approaches the anvil with reverence. "Somehow it doesn't seem right, that Orrik's anvil could be so small, so forgotten, so covered in dust. The Forger's artifice and artistry is evident in every living thing, the intricacy of life... is this really his fixed point, the tool of creation?" "You both would do well to follow Master U'Or's example in that caution," the gnome remarks as he stands near the artifact, his eyes fixed on it, following every line of the metal, his tiny bass voice expanding as his excitement grows. "Imagine all the wonders of the Tritech Corporation - powerful weapons, lifelike automatons, I've heard tell of flying ships - all that and much, much more would be possible for mere mortals. With his anvil, Orrik forged the world!" As he stands on tiptoe to blow away the dust, the gleam in Matthias' eyes reaches fever pitch. Extending his mechanically-assisted arms, he throws to the wind that same caution he so lately advised and reaches out to touch the object in front of him, intending to lift it in admiration.
