    Matthias regards the man with suspicion; after his last sea voyage to Baltarok with a stand-in crew, the gnome was a little wary, but he didn't really believe it would happen twice. "I'm Matthias," he says, and then adds as an afterthought, "What's this about a missing captain?"

    Matthias regards the strange man - Sayyip - quizzically for a second, and looks around at Rone and Berthadhiell before nodding to the inner door. "I believe they went inside, Doctor."

    Thinking of the bridge, Matthias grimaces, and looks towards Guts, wondering if the still thought that it was ok to sacrifice less experienced Heroes. "Aye, the circus was fair and beautiful, Glup and Boris and Nelvin and Mirona... wonderful days in the Low Kingdoms after the battles had all been fought. I have hope for the High Kingdoms as well; both the Orc King and the Human King seemed genuine in their desires for peace."

    "Aye; it was not a good day for any of us on that mountain road." The gnome looks defeated for a moment, but refuses to withdraw again. "Let's talk of happier days. It will be good to tour the High Kingdoms once more and learn how the peace we won there has held."

    "Probably the same it would do to you, bigjob," Matthias answers, but nonetheless the dragon rider's wink brings back a little levity to the gnome's countenance. "So if Guts and Hybros are the only ones meant to go inside, what should the rest of us do out here?" he asks mischieviously.

    Startled by Arthur's address, and still in an uncharacteristic foul mood, Matthias retorts in broken dragon, "Perhaps that other hero you knew wasn't being called a Munchkin."

    Matthias squints up at the man for a moment longer, then turns his back on Hoke and strides away towards ...well, towards somewhere else in the courtyard where he wouldn't have to deal with these people.

    Matthias can't take the Munchkin talk any longer. He marches over to Hoke and looks up the man from about knee level. "Gnome. Not Munchkin. Got it, bigjob?" The demanding look on the little druid's face would be enough to cause even a fearless warrior to pause, if the warrior was also very tiny.

    Having eventually walked into the courtyard with the others, Matthias ignores most of the conversation, staring angrily at Hoke but unwilling to make a fuss in front of the others. Munchkin?! the word sears in the gnome's mind. And then some lordly mage the gnome's only met in the Hall just hands Matthias equipment, as if his own stovepipe and trio of projectile pushers weren't good enough. When finally Guts speaks up, on Matthias' behalf, the gnome is only too glad to hand the staff and mask to Hybros and turn his back on the two dragons, even as enticing as they are in all their wonder and glory. "Dastan sounds incredible, but I'd rather not travel with such rude companions," the gnome remarks, almost unaware he's spoken in a poor imitation of the dragons' tongue; focusing himself and switching to common language, he gives his best steely eyed glare, which isn't incredibly intimidating coming from an 18-inch man in a 9-inch hat. "I think I'll travel to Baltarok." Matthias generally speaks in an orange-ish brown but it's deep green when he's using Animal Talk.

    As Matthias runs towards the gate, the sight of the dragon swirling overhead takes his breath away, and the druid slows to a standstill watching the second, much bigger dragon - and rider! - descend. Suddenly feeling even smaller than normal, Matthias creeps up around the the edge of the gate and peeks in for a moment, almost wondering whether he even fits in with the crew of heroes ahead.

    Matthias falls off his chair again, waking himself up and completely destroying the Itsy-Bitsy Spider's nearly complete work of art, which the tiny arachnid had been spinning across the druid's top hat and cannon while Matthias slept. Shaking himself, he wanders to the quest board and almost misses his name, but it catches his eyes at the last second. Uncertain of how long he's slept, he runs back to his corner table, grabs his equipment, and stumbles out the door.

    Meh, clerics are few and far between, possibly because potions have pretty much replaced them as far as I can tell.

    I definitely see 1980s hair metal here, not the blues... not that that's a bad thing! One more vote here for a hairstyle reversion. "I don't know anything about what I'm talking about, but ..." I know a lot of jazz musicians who aren't visually symmetrical. What are your genres? :shudder: I concur.

    Matthias collapses onto the floor, having fallen asleep in his chair hours ago, slowly slumping and sliding farther and farther until finally the chair wasn't really under him any more... The gnome sits up and rubs his eyes, completely bewildered at his surroundings for just a moment. Rubbing his eyes and muttering, he orders a cider and sits back down to nurse it, but not before signing up for Quest 140.

    Matthias shrugs, hands Half-Born the whip, and waits for the gold.

    The gnome in the corner shakes himself out of the stare and starts emptying his bag onto the table, wondering what it would take to get ahold of a cannon like the strange man's. Placing each item in the growing pile, he realizes how little extra he has, except for a whip which he leaves out on top, wondering if anyone might want to buy it.

    Matthias stares at the strange figure downing moonshine gumballs at the bar, or - more accurately - stares at his handcannon. What a piece of gear that is! the gnome thinks to himself. It's almost enough to break him out of his melancholy mood, but even with his mouth beginning to water he just can't bring himself to get up.

    Matthias creeps into the hall, bumping chairs and tables with his big cannon despite his best efforts not to draw any attention. Making his way to the quest board, he signs up for Quests 137, 138, and 139, wondering vaugely what it would be like to sail around the world....

    Matthias reluctantly hands over the Medal, adjusts his belongings, and heads for the Hall.

    Matthias, still unsure what target he's supposed to be shooting, decides that no one seems to be looking at Aepyornis B, so he aims and fires that direction.

    Matthias, asked to change targets again, isn't sure what to do at first, so he uses a remedy on Alderflask.
