HMS Surprise and USS Constitution by BlaketheAdmiral
Capn Frank replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Pirate MOCs
These are both great MOCs. I believe they each deserve their own topic. -
Congrats Admiral Pastry Person! Enjoy your new superpowers.

From the pics, it does not appear to be too difficult to MOD the QAR to have an acceptable deck. That's good to know. I would still probably maintain a gangway opening between the fore and main mast (similar to the Black Seas Barracuda). Is there a way to get from the spar deck to the gun deck? If not, I would add a small stairwell or ladder opening.

You are correct. I didn't think of the copyright infringements that would occur. -
Without my knowledge, my wife ordered a Maersk Train and I did not know about it until it arrived today. I love my wife, Daveena!

My opinion of constructive criticism is to provide the creator with comments and suggestions to improve their MOC in a respectable manner. If I cannot find anything I like about the MOC, I won't reply in the topic because it'll be filled with criticism. My opinion of nitpicking is to provide the creator with nothing but a lot of criticism in a demeaning manner. Criticism is everything in between.

This vessel looks really good so far! As mentioned already, the color of the ship looks great. What are you using for reference material for the Vasa? I would use "cheese wedge" slopes (1x1 slope that's 2 plates high) instead of 1x1 tiles. The stair case still looks awesome though.

Perfectionist, Would you be interested in scanned images from this book: There are a few ships that are thoroughly discussed in this book like that Vasa and Victory. -
What are you trying to say?!?
-
Thank you for the clarification Evil Stevie. I look forward to seeing pictures of the rebuilt orc ship.

You would need to get a U-Clip when purchasing a Brickarms Bayonet. Here's the posted images of the U-Clip and Bayonet: Brickforge makes one too:

Oh my! You have a lot of self control. I put this set together the same night I got it. I didn't care how late I was staying up.

We get an account to a free photo uploading site like brickshelf and flickr. Many questions related to sites like these can be answered in the Index of Tutorials topic in the "Website & Forums" Forum. Phredit: Thanks John Paul. It took me a while to post using only one hand. The other hand is holding my daughter.

With MOCing in general, I like to be accurate as possible maintaining an acceptable degree of stability. If a MOC is as accurate as possible with Lego, but falls apart very easily, I consider it to be a poor MOC. I also am not going to make a special bricklink purchase for every little MOC I work on so that I can be as accurate as possible. Portions of my MOCs will therefore not use the best pieces or have the entire MOC in the correct color. I am very open to comments & critism. Others may provide suggestions that I have not thought of where I have the bricks suggested.

I will be honest, seeing all of the LDD MOCs annoys me. I do try to not be annoyed by this. However, I am more annoyed seeing posts about people's blatant dislike of LDD Mocs. As I've told another member of this forum, MOCers who are able to build everything with real bricks (this includes me) need to be reminded that not everyone can afford the time, space, and funds to build MOCs out of actual bricks. Some people hope to build what they make in their computer into actual bricks. The best example I can think of is Zcerberus. (I truly hope he does not mind me using him as an example.) He frequently used MLCAD to build his MOCs and post these MLCAD Mocs in the pirate forum. Z now builds with real bricks and is now arguably one of the best builders in the pirate forum. I do want to frustrate LDD builders and do not wish to discredit their ability using a computer instead of real bricks who may be able to build MOCs like Z. In my opinion, If the Pirate Staff is going to continue to allow LDD MOCs to be posted in the Pirate Forum, then I would ask for all members to be more considerate to the "LDD MOCers", and I would ask LDD MOCers to continue to mention LDD in the topic title or subtitle. If the Pirate Staff is not going to allow LDD MOCs to be posted in the Pirate Forum, I would still ask all members to be more considerate to the "LDD MOCers", and I would ask the "LDD MOCers" to post in the LDD Forum.

+2 for Zcerberus. One for a transaction from a few weeks ago and a recent one. Thanks Z! -
Good bye former crew-men. I really do not know what transpired with them, but I know that I will miss seeing their new creations in the forum. Understood.

Cherno, Do you consider the 16 stud wide hulls as "Wide hulls", and the 12 stud wide hulls as "Narrow hulls"?

I had posted info about four vessels that I saw at Port Washington, WI's maritime heritage festival in 2009. -
If you use the search feature (with keys words trek, vulcan, federation, etc.) you will be able to find some topics.
-
Derfel, If you do a full edit of the first post, I do believe you can change the title yourself.

Cherno, I would have responded to this post sooner, but my notes were unavailable for the past 6 months. You could get a better comparison of ranges and reload times for these weapons by referring to the actual weapons. From the information that I've found for these weapons in real life: Estimated effective pistol range (dueling range) 20 yards Effective musket range 50 to 70 yards Roughly 15 second reload times for muskets & pistols. Effective cannon range in the sea is 500 yards for solid shot and 200 yards for canister & grape shot Smaller cannons on land had an effective range of 800 yards Roughly 2 minute reload times for fully crewed cannons. For an additional tactic, could you have a raking multiplier of 3-5 damage for when a vessel is raked? This was a very desirable tactic to use in the sailing era. Most ships surrendered once there vessel was raked because of the massive amount of damage it would inflict upon the ship and crew. Hopefully this information will give you ideas.

3mm rigid hoses could possibly be used for your black lines. Do you think using tiles and plates with studs facing out the sides would give you better detail and finer lines? ZCerberus has studs facing out in his Phantom, and I think it looks really nice. As already mentioned, I would have more of a curved look for your white stripe. For the stern above the captain's cabin, I would continue the narrowing of the stern as its height increases. Similar to the Half Moon replica in this pic: If you're interested, I had created a quick little French Merchant vessel a while ago that is loosely based on the Half Moon. It's not nearly as well done or accurate as this vessel, but you may get ideas from it. The vessel you have so far looks great. I look forward to more updates and the completion of this vessel.

Welcome to EB JMAK74. I was thinking about making a sarcastic comment about you being further north than me. But I googled Ajax and found that you're almost at the same level of northness (Is that a word? ) as I am in Wisconsin. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll think of something clever to say later.

This is a very nice display Captain. I really like the debris in the water and that the ships aren't perfectly parallel. And of course, your vessels still look fantastic.
