I really enjoyed BW '11. I like the idea for a light registration, since my wife will not likely be interested in a full registration. It was fun hanging out with all of the fellow EBers. The only thing I did not like about the convention was the hotel that I slept at. I really feel that the cost of the hotel was much higher than what we were given. Next year, we will not stay at the Westin and will stay at another one nearby.

Thank you WhiteFang! -
A good way that I've seen to prevent naughty little kids from touching your MOCs is to use plexiglas. It does a good job of keeping out the kiddies.

Playing devil's advocate here, I don't see much wrong with getting the QAR instead of the IFS. The advantages with the QAR over the IFS2 is a lower cost and there is no interior. The lack of interior would allow you to create your own. I believe the way the QAR set is built allows for a gangway and the rest of the spar deck to be built. A simple doorway could also be added to the captain's cabin. Then, you could post your MOD of the QAR set to show off what you had done and get some feed back for further improvements.

Pardon me fine humans. May I enroll into the RA? -
Picked up the Brickarms Musket Prototype Minifigure today for $12. And I am really liking what I had gotten. Not included in the pictures, I had also gotten the rapier and a knife. I think the musket looks really awesome. I tried to purchase at least ten muskets, but there was a very limited supply available. I will have to wait for their official release for my Constitution Marines. I also really like the pistol that I did not know that BA was creating prototypes for.

Typically, I believe a vessel is overtaken or the gun crews killed before they run out of shot. From books that I've read, a ship will typically carry enough shot and powder to fire 80 rounds from each cannon. Although I don't remember from what navy that the quantity applies to. However, I don't think we need to keep track of the ammo. I believe it would be too much to worry about along with everything else. I would like to assume "unlimited" ammo, but account for 80 shots for each cannon with the weight of each gun. I agree completely. If Horry maintains the cannon portion of the excel file that contains the speed formula, for every cannon you add to your ship, the slower your ship is going to go due to the extra weight of the guns and their shot. If a person would pile on a lot of cannons for the size of their ship, other vessels the same size with less cannon would be able to move more quickly and more easily rake the overloaded vessel.

If I would have known that Majhost would have stopped working the day after I place a pic of the formula on the site, I wouldn't have posted it there. Will have to wait until tonight to look on my computer to post it as just text.

Would my wife and I be able to RSVP? -
That is a good point about keeping things simple. My current intention for the derived sailing speed formula is for the use of an ESPG MOD with the use of Excel instead of pen & paper or an online game. So a complex formula will be will automatically give a max. sailing speed without the user of the sheet knowing how this value was derived. Just thought I would let you know about what I have done so to see if you or anyone else were interested. As for the number of officers for ship, I don't believe the gaming rules need to state a limit to the number officers allowed on a vessel. However, there could be rules that state that officers don't assist with the reloading of cannons, they motivate and coordinate the gun crew and aim the cannon. In ESPG there is a limit to build with only 16-wide, pre-fab hulls if you want a larger, faster ship. I believe SkaforHire is stating that he does not want such limitations in the "Horry Game" rules. I have no problem with others using my formula. I'm not worried about keeping it a secrete or anything. For the weight conversion, I use 1 kg of a Lego ship = 76 tons. For the length, beam, and sail area I use about a 1:40 scale.

I believe that we should create rules and stats based on the ESPG that some people either play or already play. Granted there will definitely need to be modifications to the ESPG rules for each individually designed MOC, where the ESPG is primarily made for standard Lego ships. I have started with using the Mass of the non-MOC ships and graphed it against the Hull Points from ESPG. There is satisfactory correlation for a conversion from Mass to ESPG Hull Points. The more bricks you build a ship with, the more it weighs and the more hitpoints it has. Sailing speeds according to wind speed and direction can actually be very complex, depending upon how complex we'd like to get. I struggled with this for a couple years following comments about the creation of my own Pirate Game. Since then, I have been able to work out a maximum speed formula that I am satisfied with. It uses the attributes of a ship's sail area, mass, hull length, and beam. The formula "behaves" as I would expect it to. The longer a vessel is and/or the more sail area it has, the faster it goes. The more beam and/or mass a vessel has, the slower it goes. I have no problem sharing the formula. My brother is currently reviewing it in an Excel file that I had made. The excel file is currently way more detailed than it needs to be though. From what I've read, frigates and vessels slightly smaller than frigates seem to be the fastest vessels and brigs or ships-of-the-line are the slowest. The brig, HMS Sophie in the book Master and Commander, had a top speed of about 8 knots (if I remember correctly). The great lakes schooners traveled (and still travel) at around 11 to 12 knots under sail. According to the Wiki articles, the USS Constitution's and HMS Surprise's top speeds are 14 and 15 knots respectfully, and the HMS Victory has a top speed of about 8 or 9 knots. I really like this idea. The number of officers on a vessel usually correlates with the number of crew or the size of the ship. Off the top of my head, There's the boatswain, sailing master, Marine officer(s), midshipmen, etc.

Do you have a MOC cannon design that you'll be using? My two favorite small MOC cannon designs include: and a similar one that uses to hold the barrel instead of a 1x1 technic brick.

Holy Antiquity Batman! This is an old topic! How do you even know if this member is still active? Oh wait... ...it's me. This MOC has not been built for a few years now. By slants I am assuming you mean the steeple. I did not use a kit. I had used 2 wedge plates with a hinge brick for each plate. For each of the four sides of the steeple I used... + + 2 X & The main roof is just plats laying on sloped bricks like this...

CB4, your Xebec is looking great so far. I am very impressed how similar the construction of this vessel appears to an actual ship. The only comment I have is that I believe there are too many cannons and a spacing of 3 studs between gun ports is too small in my opinion. Will you be covering up the studs with tiles with the finished product?

I don't like the "poke" emoticon. It creeps me out. But I think it looks great with the Cannon.

REVIEW: 8804 LEGO Minifigures Series 4
Capn Frank replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
For a while, I had only been able to find 2 Musketeers at the local stores. Someone had obviously nabbed almost all of them. So, I gave up my search and bought one on BL. The day before my BL order arrives, Shopko has Series 4 newly in stock, and I picked up all 3 right away. My brother will be getting these 3 in the mail soon. I hope he likes them. -
Great improvement to the ITP. It's going to be a lot harder for pirates to pillage your town. Long enough to have turned very pale. My Personal Creation I would think.

[Review] 6918-1: Blacksmith Attack
Capn Frank replied to evilempire22's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I got two right away! Although, I really don't like the new bow and arrow. I like the other weapons just fine. It's nice to have a variety of them. I really like the new little knives. Our Wal-mart has a lot of them in Saukeville, Wisconsin. However, my brother who is visiting Georgia right now has not seen them at Wal-mart. They're soft plastic. -

I vote for Friday or Saturday night. -
Yes! This is awesome! Aaron, what type of modifications and improvements do you plan on having in this vessel compared to the previous version. I look forward to improvement upon this vessel.

Cannons in the new Dark Pearl Gray are really close to the Flat Black you are looking for. I consider this close enough to black for my "iron" cannons.

I would use a Brickarms monopod for the hand grip.
