  1. The picture is not very good. As far as the pub colour is concerned, it is most definitely tan. But what about the window frames of the barber shop? Are they really medium blue? Now that would be something! What do you think about the baseplate? Yes, it's sort of nice to get a new colour with every modular, but no, I wouldn't want to pay for them making baseplates in new colours just for one modular set. It has to have an impact on the price. I'd rather have them use that money to expand the building itself. A tan or green baseplate would be just fine.
  2. I'm thinking of grabbing the scale issue by buying two sets and building the second one as a mirror image. This way I get a blue building that is 32-wide, counting the balconies, or 20-wide without them. That should look good in proportion to the other modulars. As for the DA part, it's 16-wide as it is. I would build one according to the instructions and for the second one, the mirror image, use some other colours so it doesn't look too much like a copy of the original.
  3. I don't think the window decorations are stickers. At least in the pic the window panes look printed to me.
  4. Some initial thoughts: It looks very Jamiesque. I would be very very surprised if this was designed by Astrid. Just look at all the clever and unexpected usage of parts. Definitely Jamie's imagination! The set reminds me of a cartoon. Think those Italian Disney comics. The pool sign and all... Not necessarily a bad thing, though. I was expecting a rare colour. Dark brown, maybe. All the colourfulness, especially the light blue, add to the cartoon effect. The trend is definitely towards smaller buildings that fit better in a city layout. Maybe to entice parents to buy these for their kids? Overall, I think the set looks like a bustling hive of activity and is actually very nice. However, it would have to be placed next to 16-wides and the PR, because it probably looks slightly out of scale next to proper 32x32 modulars. But of course you need to! All cities need a barbershop and a hairdresser's. Plus, you need to combine the art deco hair salon with Emma's house to create a friendish modular mod/moc.
  5. Many here do seem to believe that the Ideas Natural History Museum would actually have a chance of making it through the review. I am amazed by this – I believe the chances of it becoming an actual set is a pure 0 %. Having said that, yes, I supported it too. But no, Lego is not going to make an Ideas set that would fall into an existing theme and that would be so big. Looking back at Cuusoo/Ideas sets that they have produced, they all have two things in common. They are rather small and they don't fit into any existing theme.
  6. The book arrived 5th Nov, so their estimate was pretty accurate. Seems to me the steamship has a reliable schedule
  7. I was very surprised and amused when I happened to walk past the local prison in Nassau, Bahamas. The prisoners were in the prison yard, separated from the sidewalk only by a see-through wired fence. And they were all wearing striped shirts exactly like the ones in Lego City. Pants, too! Their hats, however, didn't resemble the Lego beanies. I never knew they actually wear striped prison suits in a real prison somewhere on earth!
  8. TH out of stock in Europe, estimated delivery 30th Oct. I just had to grab that second TH now so I can MOD my existing one into a larger stand-alone. Had been postponing this for a long time already and planned to buy it in the US, but with the Finnish price being €199 and double VIP points, it's actually not that much more expensive than in the US. FIN €199 - 20 (VIP) = €179. US $199 x 1,08 (estimated tax) x 0,81 (cash exchange rate) -€10 (VIP) = €164. The difference for eg. PS is a whopping €60! Used to be €70 with a weaker dollar.
  9. While I do realise you don't want to give your source, it would be helpful to give some additional details on what kind of position this "someone" has with the company. Many people who work for Lego unfortunately don't have the faintest idea what they are talking about. I've encountered this several times, and I believe I'm not the only one.
  10. True! It's also screaming "Modularize me!" although it's 20-wide, and it's a little problematic to try to force it to 16-wide with the roof panels being 18-wide. I've also started to like Emma's house. I'm dreaming of a modular with the hair salon on the ground floor and two Art Deco-style lavender floors above it. I didn't like the lavender colour at all at first, but in an Art Deco building it might not be that out of place after all.
  11. Being a huge fan of your movie theater / diner, it's great to see some new work from you. I think the modularized 31026 looks really nice. In particular I like the fact that you have created two buildings but placed them on one baseplate with an alley in the middle. Since a 4-wide alley looks this nice I now wonder whether this is what we'll get with the detective agency as well – two 14-wide buildings and a 4-wide alley. Both buildings look nice, not too narrow, and they fit in well with the Pet Shop 16-wides. I'm also impressed by the pizzeria interior. Reminds me of so many small pizzerias on Manhattan. I have been thinking about maybe getting two more 31026s to create another MOD, and you've basically talked me into it with this topic! Thanks!
  12. What I fear is that the scale of the modulars is becoming smaller, like what has happened with the Creator houses. The Creator houses used to fit in rather well with the old modulars. Last year's Bike Shop was smaller, however combining two still made it suitable for a modular city. Last years PR, while in many ways great, is certainly smaller in scale compared to the older modulars. And then we come to this year's Creator house, the Toy Store, which is so minuscule and lacks features that I don't find it modifiable any more. I sure hope the DA isn't going the same way...
  13. Thanks for all the info you gave us! Most appreciated! My guess would be a 32 x 32 baseplate and two separate buildings, maybe 12-14 wide each, with a 6-wide alley in the middle.
  14. What do you think, will the detective agency be dark brown? A rare color, well-suited for a dismal detective agency, but perhaps too dismal for TLG?
  15. Mine shipped today from Amazon.com to Finland. But expected delivery date is Nov 6. How can it take 34 days for a book to reach Europe? By steamship? :)
  16. There's a Lego store in Queens, a subway ride away from Manhattan. They charge rrp there. Has anyone been to the new 5th Avenue store? Do they charge rrp or do they have a mark up?
  17. This goes a bit offtopic, but Off the Wall, I don't think you should overlook Friends or City if you are about to create MOCs. Since it's a hobby, everyone can of course create their own limits and play by their own rules, none of us has a say there, but I've found the Friends shops and the few City buildings that we get very inspiring and I hope you could give them a chance. Cool yellow is a wonderful and very realistic color (I just came from Vienna, Austria and while marveling at the beautiful architecture there, noticed that many old buildings were "cool yellow") and I've actually hoped that the next modular would have this color. Well, if and when the next modular is a detective agency, I doubt they will choose cool yellow unless it's some kind of Miami Vice style art deco building... Let me give you one example where the basis of my moc is Friends-based. Actually the Heartlake Juice Bar is practically in its original condition here. I've added a similar one as a mirror image (might become a surf shop) and added a small ice cream parlour (interior from Olivia's ice cream bike x 2) in the corner. It sits on two 32x32 baseplates. The 2nd and 3rd floors are empty right now, but the top floor houses a nightclub, all furnished in LDD. Sure, the architecture is more modern than in the official modulars, but if you are going to start moc-ing, then why not try different styles as well? No city in the world has buildings only from one era. (For what it's worth, I have the ground floor brick-built already and I have most pieces required for the upper floor exteriors. I'm in the process of moving houses, though, and it's going to take a while before I can continue the actual building. In the meanwhile, I'll have to be satisfied just playing around with LDD. When this is finally completed, I will be sure to present it to everyone, perhaps together with my other Friends-based MOC, a 48 x 32 Pet salon (x2) cool yellow building.)
  18. This is good news! Not available in Finland, though, but maybe later...
  19. FB x 1 GE x 2, combined into a 32 x 64 PS x 2, currently two brownstones combined to a rowhouse, 1 sand blue pet shop and 1 white pet shop with brown windows (only colours changed), planning on getting a 3rd one TH x 1, planning on getting a 2nd one to make one stand-alone 48-wide TH on 32 x 64 baseplate PC x 1 PR x 1 (+ HH x 2, 1 built to instructions and another one waiting in plastic bags to be modularised into a non-haunted32 x 32 corner building)
  20. I don't know what a Luddite is :) but I would really like to see your mega-size GE! Bricksafe.com is very easy to use and you can create a username + start sharing pics within minutes.
  21. It depends on what you want, really. I suppose most of us like to think that the scale of City and the Modulars don't quite match whereas the scale of the Creator houses and Modular buildings match rather well. But you could always pick a City set, probably you'll need two of the same set, and rebuild it to fit your modular city.
  22. My LDD modularized version of 41085 Animal Care Clinic. Both as a minimalist one-floor-version and as a three-storey building. This is going to be a really inexpensive modularization, although I still need some additional details to make it fit in.
  23. I've got one built up and another one that's been in the unopened box for a year or so. My aim is to build the second one as a mirrored image and then attach the two, making a garage long enough to fit that example car of yours in and a double-size living room with a kitchenette in the corner.
  24. They told me at the Lego Store Vienna Donau Zentrum last week that they would be getting more of those. Hard to say whether they actually knew what they were talking about. I suppose they didn't.
  25. Ditto. I had high hopes about the pizzeria. Would have been a great modular mod. But the hairsalon seems okay and the animal care clinic will probably work as a modular mod too, when you get two and combine. It's 16 studs wide. The colour of Emma's house doesn't please my eye but I'm sure the target group will like it. Will have to consider it when I know more about the interior.
