  1. Only thing holding back the Jedi Temple is that MBS sets tend to come out every 2 years and there's still a few OT locations that are likely to come first. Could be a while before we see one made.
  2. Disappointing to see another Spider-Man wave that keeps playing it safe by recycling the same old characters. Why not shake things up with someone new like Lizard, Kingpin or Black Cat? Or classic renditions of Electro, Shocker and Rhino?
  3. Looks like a pretty nice set. Shame its an exclusive but hopefully the minifigures will eventually show up in a separate polybag like Captain Marvel did.
  4. I have no doubt there's something planned in the pipeline for after the Republic Gunship gets released.
  5. Regarding the main characters here's a rundown of the on screen variants that haven't been covered yet. There's also a few artwork options they could go with similar to how DC had their "First Appearance" variants for Batman and Wonder Woman in their CMF series. Just an alternative to rehashing existing figures like the Endor and Yavin Celebration variants.
  6. Regarding Padme I almost feel its a waste to include one of her action costumes. While its ridiculous we have gone so long without figures based on her Theed Battle, Droid Factory and Mustafar outfits, none of these require new parts and can be thrown into any number of potential sets. It would be better to take advantage of the new molds a CMF series provides and go with one of her more extravagant gowns that wouldn't normally be released anywhere else. For the other characters I think the DC, Lego Batman and Harry Potter waves have proven you don't need to have your main heroes in their most recognizable costumes. There's plenty of untouched variants they could pick from for a CMF series.
  7. The new TIE Fighter's cockpit looks like its been scaled down to only 6 studs wide which is what the original TIE Bomber's was. Surely they should be able to come up with something at that scale for a reasonable price. There's no reason for it to be as big as what the TIE Striker's cockpit was.
  8. The new TIE Fighter looks great! The scale matches the original 2001 set, the cockpit looks rounded and its retained the grey framework on the solar panels. Couldn't ask for anything more really. Hopefully this leads to the rest of the Imperial TIE variants getting redone at this scale in the near future.
  9. I welcome the notion of a Star Wars CMF series but I am dead set against it being used to distribute army building figures. I mentioned before in the other topic that its only going to become a scalper's paradise with them hoarding all the figures for resale at extortionate prices while the genuine collectors get left in the cold. The difficulty in currently obtaining the 501st battle pack and AAT has already showcased that.
  10. The design of the TIE Fighters definitely peaked with Rebels' Inquisitor and Darth Vader fighters. The cockpit only used basic parts like slopes, corner bricks and a windscreen for the top hatch but they captured the smooth round shape of the ship better than any other attempt since. I've found a lot of sets were well scaled the first time around but have been gradually blown out of scale with each subsequent remake. The latest Landspeeder is a prime example of this. While some of the added detail is nice the overall set is ridiculously long and really has no reason for being as large as it is.
  11. After how difficult its been to obtain the 501st Battlepack this year, a CMF series is the last place I want to see future army builders get distributed. Its going to be a scalper's paradise hoarding all the figures for resale while the genuine collectors get left in the cold.
  12. 75133 Rebel Alliance Battlepack Includes a Duros and Rodian in desert attire. The humans could also come in handy. 75167 Bounty Hunter Battlepack Includes Bossk and Dengar who were both present at Mos Eisley during an episode of TCW. Bossk's costume was also originally used on a generic spaceman at the cantina in ANH. 75198 Tatooine Battlepack Doesn't really help populate the bar but could still be useful for populating the streets. Comes with additional Jawas, a Tusken Raider and R3-T2 who can be seen outside the cantina in ANH. 75265 T-16 Skyhopper vs Bantha Microfighters For the T-16 Pilot. There's plenty of other characters to pick from if you wanted to buy the figures separately but for now those sets would be a good starting point.
  13. The Batwing looks awesome! Definitely going to pick this one up. Pretty cool how you can mount it on the wall.
  14. Another option could be the surgical cap. A flesh colored version of that would work pretty well.
  15. Ugh I really should have double checked the set number first. Lesson learned for next time.
  16. Two more rumored sets for next year courtesy of Instagram: 75298 Empire Strikes Back Battle Pack ($17.99) 75302 Darth Vader Ship ($69.99)
  17. So a hypothetical scenario here. Should there be an opportunity for additional cantina patrons in the future (expansions, advent calendars, battlepacks, polybags, CMFs etc) - who are the characters that should take priority next? Do you prefer they are all based on specific characters from the cantina scene or are you happy with just having generic representations of the alien species (i.e. a generic Gotal over Feltipern Trevagg)? And in the case of Snaggletooth - should a minifigure be based on the Vintage Kenner version (Zutmore from the Holiday Special) or one that's more screen accurate to A New Hope (Takeel/Zutton)?
  18. The X-Wing is said to be roughly the same size just with less detail on the wings and tail section along with a new construction for the nose. The piece count its 474 which falls between the 2006 release (414 pieces) and the 2012 version (544 pieces). I imagine it will look closer to those earlier releases just with more modern parts and hopefully better proportions. The TIE Fighter is supposed to have a cockpit almost as big as before but the wings will be shrunk down. Hopefully it won't be an issue as the original blue TIE Fighters were smaller than the ones we have today and still looked fine proportionally. Piece count is 432 which is lower than the Solo TIE Fighter (501 pieces) but more than the 2012 release (397 pieces). The new Imperial Shuttle will have 589 parts which is much less than the 2015 version (917) but still more than double the original (219). The original set looked great for its time and nobody had a problem with the scale back then so with today's newer pieces and building techniques I think they can definitely do it justice at the lower price range. Just to compare the different versions:
  19. Awesome review. They really delivered on releasing the definitive cantina set while also raising the bar for future MBS releases. Would love to see Jabba's Palace receive the same treatment one day. Just one question - are the new molds for Garindan, Labria and Ponda Baba made from rubber or the normal hard plastic?
  20. Been a while since I've done a large list like this. Ajan Kloss Jedi Training Small set like the Mustafar/Starkiller Base duels featuring Jedi Training Luke and Leia. Asajj Ventress's Fanblade Starfighter Based on Season 3 of TCW. Includes updated versions of Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress along with Mother Talzin and a Nightsister. AT-ACT Roughly the same size as the AT-AT. New build for the head would be needed to reflect the different proportions as well as a removable orange cargo container in the body. B-Wing Been a while since the last one. Must come with Nien Nunb this time! If its based on TROS could also include other Resistance characters like General Leia, Beaumont Kin, Aftab Ackbar or Rose. Battle of Crait Includes the Luke Skywalker/Kylo Ren duel, a portion of the Resistance base with General Leia and a scaled down Ski Speeder with Finn as the pilot. Battle of Endor Its been 11 years since the last time we got the shield bunker. I'd be okay with an MBS set but I don't think it really needs to be that expensive when the original set did a perfect job at capturing the scene at half the price. If it were MBS including a portion of the Ewok Village would be fine, but I wouldn't want to see a complete remake of the 2013 set included when there are other important locations that haven't even been touched yet. Maybe the radar dish and landing platform would be better inclusions? Battle of Kashyyyk Similar to original Battle of Endor and Assault on Hoth sets. Includes Wookie Treehouse with holographic command centre, trench, Wookie Catamaran, AT-RT, Dwarf Spider Droid, Clone Swamp Speeder and Corporate Alliance Tank Droid. Bounty Hunter Pursuit Its long overdue for a remake and Zam Wesell is the only character that hasn't received a flesh skin tone update yet. Dex's Diner Just a mid scale playset not too different from the City/Friends diners. Includes Obi-Wan, Dexter Jettster (new head mold with Rio Durant torso) and WA-7. Dryden's Yacht Small interior build of the office with various artifacts and play features. Includes Han Solo, Dryden Vos and Qi'ra. Duel on Exegol Small set with throne room and crane arm. Includes Rey, Ben Solo, Palpatine and Sovereign Protector. General Grievous Chase Includes Wheel Bike and brick build boga. Figures include Obi-Wan, General Grievous and Commander Cody. Geonosis Arena (MBS) I think this one's been mentioned enough times. Three arena beasts. Pillars. At least half the arena. Backside could include smaller scenes like Obi-Wan's prison cell, Separatist War Room and Yoda/Dooku's duel. Geonosis Droid Factory Mid range set with plenty of play features. Could connect to a larger arena set. Invisible Hand Similar to the Malevolence set. Includes Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, General Grievous, Neimoidian Pilot, Magna Guard and Battle Droids. Invisible Hand Duel Similar to the Death Star Final Duel playset. Includes Anakin, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Palpatine and Super Battle Droid. Jabba's Palace (MBS) / Jabba's Sail Barge (UCS) After how well Mos Eisley was done this has definitely jumped towards the top of my list. The palace and sail barge having roughly 21 minifigures each and released in close proximity to each other would be a great way to capitalize on the large number of characters. The primary new characters I'd like to see are Tessek, Saelt-Marae (Yak Face), Sy Snootles, Droopy McCool, 8D8, Klaatu, Nikto, Amanaman and Ephant Mon - along with a new mold for EV-9D9 similar to the K-2SO/2-1B Droids. Jango Fett's Slave I Also overdue for a remake. In addition to figures of Obi-Wan, Jango and Boba it should also include both Taun We and Lama Su. Lars Homestead Could be MBS, but also happy for it to be done at the price range of Vader's Castle. Mandalorian Gauntlet/Mandalorian Shuttle Either ship would be good. Includes Obi-Wan, Duchess Satine, Pre Vizsla and Bo-Katan. Maz Kanata's Castle Similar set to the 2014 Mos Eisley Cantina focusing more on the interior this time. Includes the usual heroes along with Sidon Ithano, Bazine Netal and Quiggold. Naboo Starfighter vs Vulture Droid Its been a while since the last one and with next year's sets targeting a more affordable price range this is one set I wouldn't mind if they scaled down a bit. The 1999 set was a nice compact size but the 2006-2015 models felt too long and stretched despite having a sleeker appearance. Would be nice also getting another Trade Federation Vulture Droid back in its original scale. Set MUST include Theed Battle Padme! Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor (Utapau) Blue version of the Jedi Interceptor. Includes Obi-Wan, R4-G9 and Tion Meddon. Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter AOTC version of the ship. Preferably scaled down and better proportioned than the 2017 version. Could use the new wedge plates from the TIE Dagger for a sharper nose at the front. Its also another opportunity to include a Kaminoan minifigure. Palpatine's Arrest Remake of the 2012 set with more modern detail. Same minifigures as before. Palpatine should preferably come with two separate heads (one for Chancellor, the other reusing the existing ROTJ Emperor head) while Kit Fisto should have an entirely new head mold in olive green. Queen Amidala's Royal Starship Don't care if its done in light grey - just make it happen. Should include Queen Amidala/Sabe in the black gown, Padme in the orange handmaiden outfit, Captain Panaka and Ric Olie as the pilot. Republic Venator Same price range as the Star Destroyers with a sleeker look and more interior space than the 2009 set. Includes Anakin, Ahsoka (either Season 1 or Season 3 look), Captain Rex, Admiral Yularen and various Clone Troopers. Senate Duel Something around the price range of Death Star Final Duel would be ideal. Should include the central senate podium, two senate pods and Bail Organa's airspeeder. Characters should include Yoda, Sidious, Bail Organa, Mas Amedda and a Shock Trooper. TIE Bomber and TIE Interceptor No reason why these two can't be updated if next year is cutting the price down on the standard TIE Fighter. Good opportunity to throw in Ozzel, Needa and Jerjerrod. Trade Federation MTT The proportions of the 2006 model are a bit dated by today's standards but the 2014 model suffered from too many gaps and not enough storage capacity for the battle droids. 2020 delivered the perfect AT-AT so I'd like to see the MTT get the same treatment in the near future by addressing the faults of the previous models and delivering the best version yet! Its also the perfect chance to include a new Boss Nass or Rune Haako minifigure. Yavin IV Rebel Base (MBS) Pyramid facade with all the different interior rooms on the back. Includes celebration versions of Luke/Han/Leia, General Dodonna, Mon Mothma, Red Leader, Rebel Honor Guard and various other pilots, troopers and astromechs. And as mentioned in my earlier post - more Tatooine sets (Watto's Junk Shop, Anakin's Home, Mos Espa Podrace etc)
  21. The original blue TIE Fighter from 2001-2005 was a good scale. I'd be completely fine if the new model is a similar size to that. I'm also hoping the lower piece count for the TIE Fighter means we can get a rounded cockpit design again. 2016's TIE Advanced and TIE Striker both did an excellent job at capturing that look just by using basic slope and corner bricks as well as the 6x6 windshield for the top hatch. The 2018 Solo version however was far too jagged and blocky and could really have benefited from a more simplified build.
  22. Re-releases are fine and I will hold judgement on the scaled down redesigns until I see photos. I think many of us can agree the prices for sets like the X-Wings have gotten a bit too high over the years and bringing them down to a more affordable level can only be a good thing. There's a few sets I think could actually benefit from being scaled back (Landspeeder, AT-ST, Naboo Fighter, ARC-170 etc) and if it means eventually getting that overdue TIE Bomber remake they've been reluctant to release due to the price range then I welcome the decision. Where this new wave disappoints me is with how empty and minimal it feels compared to past winter waves. Microfighters and helmets are fine for those who collect them but for anyone who is more interested in the system scale side of things there just doesn't seem to be a lot on offer. No battle packs No location playsets like Yoda's Hut No lightsaber duels Only one mid range "great vehicle" set in the wave Nothing from either the Prequel Trilogy or The Clone Wars The only Sequel Trilogy set is from the 4+ range A fairly safe line up of characters that doesn't seem to offer much in the way of new and interesting figures Maybe the summer wave will have a more substantial selection of products but as of now I can't help but feel underwhelmed by it.
  23. What a depressing start to the year.
  24. Yoda's lightsaber looks nice. After the helmet busts it only seemed like a matter of time before they started releasing lightsaber replicas. Still I do miss the exclusive character polybags, especially when they came with the display stands and cardboard backdrops.
  25. There doesn't appear to be anywhere to connect them. The clips at the bottom of Obi-Wan's Hut aren't compatible with the other Mos Eisley buildings. The only other place I thought it could attach was the back of the open building but even that doesn't look to be the case based on the lifestyle photos of the set. The scream guy (Elis Helrot) would have been cool but understandable why they didn't select him. The line up of alien patrons is still a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Didn't think they'd go into the randoms like Labria, Kabe and Hrchek Kal Fas. Although now that the social media push for a 501st Battlepack is finished, maybe it's time to start up a Mos Eisley Battlepack for the patrons that didn't make it? It should be the Han and Greedo booth. In the movie Luke and Obi-Wan were sitting outside the alcove rather than inside it so it should be a matter of just moving the small gray stools there.
