10228. Brick link or buy used or skip
BimmerBoy replied to lanesteele240's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The closer to Halloween/All Hallowed Eve's it gets, the more expensive this set will become. Get it now, or hold off until after Halloween and hope people lower their ebay price because they are trying to get rid of it. -
Great news! I hope the fix the way the cars actually roll, though. Very stiff, not smooth like most Lego cars and trucks. Not as fun for the kids to play with, and a big let down after getting the 60053 City race car. I made some different colored versions of that set and my kids had a great time racing them around. We got the Speed Champions, and were shocked at how poorly the rolled (except the Scuderia Truck of all things; that uses the standard low friction LBG technic pins instead of the tan technic pins the Speed Champions cars use).

Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic
BimmerBoy replied to XAxles's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm surprised people are shocked/surprised/disappointed by the size of the F40. One only needs to look at previous large road-going Lego Ferrari cars to know only two possibilities were going to happen: The big Technic Enzo and 599GTB, and the 1:17ish scale brick built Enzo, F430's, FXX. Once the set number was released and it was known to be a Creator set, you knew the 1:17ish scale brick built was the answer. Lego probably felt they had to keep the size of the F40 similar to the Enzo, F430's, FXX to appease the Lego Ferrari collectors. Set looks great overall, I will get it! -
I agree, there are a lot of possibilities. Any Lamborghini, Audi R8, Corvette, any of the low volume super cars (Zonda, etc), Dodge Viper, Nissan GT-R, BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Ford GT. That's just street cars. They could get into more real racers, too. LeMans, WRC cars, DTM racers.

The local Lego Store here says the LaFerrari and P1 are moving at a very brisk pace. When both of those are off the shelf, the Italia sales start picking up. I think the 918 struggles a little because of the LBG color. If it was dark red, DBG, white or some kind of blue, it would sell a lot better in my opinion. The bigger sets are slower sellers, but they say the Porsche Finish Line is selling OK. I have all of them, and the more I look at them and see my kids play with them, the more I like them (and I liked them quite a bit from the start).

I'm guessing no new UCS MF anytime soon, if ever. My guess is a very good MF playset in 2016, possibly better/bigger than 7965. I'm wondering what the opening salvo of sets will be for TFA. X-wing? TIE Fighter? Rey's speeder? The new Stormtroopers? Hard to say given the limited previews thus far (I'm guessing there is a whole bunch of cool stuff in upcoming previews!).

The only good things about the Planet series were the Lobot minifig (the lack of Bespin stuff is a HUGE hole in the Lego SW line) and the Death Star globe (makes a good Christmas tree ornament).

I love these, especially the Magnum P.I. Ferrari and the Charger. I got all the Speed Champions sets, and while there are some flaws, I love those cars and they have left me wanting more. You builds have whetted my appetite. The Charger in orange would be great for a Dukes Of Hazard General Lee.

Nice build! I recently got the Speed Champions McLaren-Mercedes F1 Pit Stop set and thought an Octan version of that whole set (especially the car) would be fun. Yours looks like an greatly improved version of the car that came in the 60025 Race Car Transporter set.
-
Does anyone know what scale (roughly speaking of course) the Speed Champion cars are (1/34, etc.)? Seems like decals made for slot cars could be useful if you wanted to run different racing livery on the Porsches.
-
The black one is fantastic. Great exhaust tips and mirrors. You should get the wheels/tires from 60053, they would look great on that car!
-
Nice work! I'm excited, I'm going to the Lego Store tomorrow to look at these Speed Champion sets since they will finally be available here. From the pictures I've seen, the 918 is the least accurate (too "tall" relative to the width). This is not a knock against Lego, as this is a very difficult car to replicate at this scale and they did a good job. Your version gives the low look the real life car has, though.

42000 Technic Grand Prix racer has function to raise/lower the engine cover. Its a very tedious hand crank. The Lone Ranger Constitution train has a hidden compartment in the coal tender. I know its for kids, but it seems ridiculous since a steam engine requires coal to operate. This set also has an afterthought "exploding rock" function. (please note, I still love this set. The engine is very nice).
-
Hmm, lots I like, some I don't like. Small stickers? Really? The engine area design looks "off" to me. I like the ball design, yet the finished look is not quite great (although I just got the Inquisitor Tie Advanced, the ball on that is excellent to my eye). My question is how will this look scale-wise sitting next to the 10179 and Red 5 X-wing?

Is Lego dying? No, not even close. Its growing if anything. Is Lego getting stale in some areas? Yes (some things could be slightly better, a few areas need serious improvement). YouTube reviewers probably analyze a lot of sets, so within a theme they see repetition. Also, its plastic snap-together bricks we are talking about here. There are limits to what can be done.
-
Nice review! My son and I built this set yesterday. The Inquisitor is an outstanding minifig and has quickly become one of our favorites in our collection. Not just Stars Wars, but all our minifigs! The ship is nice is as well. Looks good, and is a very stable design. It has the best playability of any TIE to date. It is swooshable and has the fun laser firing mechanism.

Hi everyone, I've browsed this website for awhile now, but this is my first post with one of my own ideas. I'm honestly not that into Technic, but the 42000 Grand Prix Racer set really caught my eye a few months ago. After I built it, I looked at it and thought the basic design reminded me of the Ferrari Formula 1 2011 F150 chassis (the nose in particular). And thus, the idea for this was born. Its about 95% complete, I still need to change out a few LBG pieces for Black and add Black panels in front of the rear wheels. The sponsor decal graphics are from the 2013/2014 car (I have an affiliation with one of the sponsors, and it was easier to get the decal set). The decal set is for a 1/10 scale Tamiya RC car, but they work well enough to suit me. The challenges were finding the right color pieces (unfortunately, some pieces I wanted in Red and White are simply not available), and trying to avoid STAMPS (stickers across multiple pieces). Where I had to employ STAMPS, I made sure they were applied to easily removable sub-assemblies. Enjoy! Edit: I apologize for the picture size, I'm new to this and working from an iPad. Trying to figure it out. P.S. There are some incredible builders and creations here in the Technic Forum!!!!!

[Petition] Save LEGO the Lord of the Rings
BimmerBoy replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not really into Lego LOTR (only got Shelob for a Halloween display; considered Helm's Deep), but I have to say the 2nd wave was bad and turned me off completely. I easily would've bought a Witch King & Fell Beast set, and probably considered others if the 2nd wave had been better.- 298 replies

survey Picture versus Video Reviews
BimmerBoy replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
I tend to prefer picture reviews. I can follow the review at my own pace (focus on pics and descriptions that interest me, scroll past pics and descriptions that don't interest me), but video reviews have the advantage of showing how functions work. For EuroBricks, I think pic reviews are great. If someone is really interested in a set reviewed on EuroBricks, they will seek out more information and look for video reviews. Of course, I would not mind a mostly pic review that included a short video showing how functions work (if the set being reviewed has functions beyond basic "fire the flick missile", etc.). -
Search the Eurobricks Technic forum. There are several threads with pictures and good information. You will have to redesign part of the car to make the receiver, battery box and motors fit. I bought this set a few months ago. My first Technic set, and I love it. I converted mine to resemble a Ferrari F1 car (the 2011 F150 chassis with 2013-14 sponsor graphics). I considered making mine RC, but the big drawback for me is the power functions motors are too slow (based on the videos I've seen on youtube). This is a race car, it should be fast.

I have built up a huge supply of 1 x 1 round plates and black friction pins just from the spares that come with every set I've bought.

Awesome. Love the details. Ironically, the more boring detail of the rear of the store is my favorite. You got the look right and it makes this MOC feel complete. Reminds me of a shipping outlet I worked at. Simple rear door with one light overhead, a small bench, and a plain white wall. A place to hang out while on break time to eat a snack, read a book, or talk on your personal phone (or smoke for one of my co-workers).

My guess is several of the LR sets were already in the planning/development stage as part of a Western theme when Disney approached TLC about a LR line of Lego sets. That would explain the stagecoach to me anyways. I thought the LR line was excellent (nice sets with highly detailed minifigs and great extra parts), but my kids found them boring except for the Constitution train (they just like Lego trains in general).
