lego digital designer install problem
Calabar replied to dgfdhf's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@yedda_2000 What's the operating system where you applied your procedure? In Windows 10 1809 it seems there was no way to install the ActiveX Flash, both manually and through LDD. It always generates an error and fails. -
lego digital designer install problem
Calabar replied to dgfdhf's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Just a request: if anyone of you have a Win10 where LDD is installed (using the installer, when it still worked), could he prepare a ready-to-use reg file for lxf and lxfml association extracting the proper entries from the registry? -
How to fine tune LDD part placement?
Calabar replied to NathanR's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
He told he already tried with a scaffolding (ok, it could be the wrong scaffolding, but...) If the scaffolding don't help, you could try to edit the lxfml file and change position modifying the internal values, this should give you all the precision you need. Obviously you should work with the most simple model as possible and trying to align it with the three axes. -
lego digital designer install problem
Calabar replied to dgfdhf's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
(Double) Extracting the package with 7zip worked fine for me few days ago. The only trouble I had was to associate the lxf files to the software executable, but with a bit of manual registry editing I achieve the result. In order to associate the file extension I suggest to use a reg file obtained from a working installation. Hope that next update (if any) will fix this problem removing ActiveX Flash Player among requisites from the installer. -
LEGO 60197 TRAIN LDD
Calabar replied to xXJakilXx's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Not sure it is suitable for the LDD Official Sets topic, as he told he "make this train but with different bricks and different version too". The official set requires that the model is as much true to the original as possible. Anyway it could be posted as extra together with the "original" 60197. @xXJakilXx If you will contribute to the aforementioned topic, be sure to follow the topic's rules written in the first page. Take a look at other regular posts as example. -

Mecabricks Viewport Upgrade
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Pardon me, but I can't understand your point too (and your language, "sucks" is not something I expect to read in this forum). The "server farm rendering" is an option. I think that it is an useful option for people that are not familiar with rendering software, for people with much hurry (render farm is usually much faster than any home PC), for those who haven't any hardware suitable with the operation (I know many people that have a very old PC or even uses only a tablet... and don't forget that Mecabricks is the only one suitable from mobile/touch devices). If you don't belong to one of these cases, you can simply ignore this option and export your rendering file for blender. Does it interfere with your workflow in any way? Besides if I remember correctly, low resolution renderings are for free, so you can do as much try you need before paying for the final rendering. About available parts, surely stud.io is better stocked. This is not a surprise, as it uses LDRAW bricks as basis, anche the LDRAW community is very active. On the other hand, Mecabricks redesigned the parts in a new and more modern format, and this requires a lot of work. I think that it is possible to contribute too, so if you need a part, you could create it and share it with all Mecabricks users. Maybe it is possible to request parts too. Anyway I can understand that for a standard user this is a clear limit (LDD is much worse from this point of view) so, as usual, the impact depends on one's needs. About being a web app, there isn't much to say: this is Mecabricks. It has advantages, but disadvantages too. Everyone should judge if the weight of advantages is greater or lesser than disadvantages one. Clearly if your Internet access is slow or you need to use it offline, it is not the software for you. -
@G0d0fninjas12 Did you try with a dummy model? Your model could be altered while building it, and the deformation could cause the problem. A simplified dummy model could help to understand if the problem is due to an LDD issue or to something wrong in the model. PS: try to don't write SMS-like, paying attention to punctuation and capitalization.

Mecabricks Viewport Upgrade
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's a good news for me, I should try it on my Android Tablet (hoping the graphics is not too heavy for its "old" Snapdragon 801 SOC). Is it good with Firefox for Android? -
Mecabricks Viewport Upgrade
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Glad to see that the project is so viable. Any improvement aimed to the use with touch devices? I haven't followed the development of Mecabricks for some time, and I was wondering how far the "touch experience" went. -
Narrative in building instructions
Calabar replied to knotian's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The story would be a very interesting addition, but it runs into a huge problem: localization. Even though English is a sort of universal language, it is not accessible to everybody, especially if the challenge is to read a long text. So I think that insert the history in a separate file would make easier to work with different translations (if any) and would avoid to create multiple versions of the instructions. Anyway, once the "story" PDF file is created, it is matter of few moments to merge it with the Building Instructions one. So the only thing you should take care is to prepare the Building Instructions to integrate some external page if you mean to leave open the possibility to insert the "story" inside it. -
lego piece height difference
Calabar replied to G0d0fninjas12's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ok, Page 89, Step 167. I'll take a look (not so soon, I'm quite busy this week) About sharing files, I suggest you to use a LEGO related hosting such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that are reliable and allow to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlink. -

Calabar replied to G0d0fninjas12's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Page/book of the instructions? The image I think you tried to attach is not visible (EDIT: I fixed the image, but a reference to the building instructions would be much more helpful). What about sharing your lxf file? (or part of it, at least) How the reversed plate is connected? Is it possible to fine move it downwards using a scaffolding? The 75192 is a challenging build for an LDD novice. Maybe you already became acquainted with LDD building simpler sets? -
lego piece height difference
Calabar replied to G0d0fninjas12's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Usually there problems are due to: - use of the wrong bricks as a SNOT, for example technic bricks with pin hole have different measures than standard bricks. - use of some LDD automatic tool (such as hinge tool) that during its use slightly move some brick, creating the disalignment. In this case is necessary to remove the disaligned bricks as soon as possible, because they easily propagate the disaligment to all bricks attached to them. - impossible design: it is not possible to obtain the result in that way, even if thanks to real bricks tolerances is seems possible. Is it an official set? If so, which one? For a better help, you should share the LXF file (or the interesting part of it, at least). PS: please edit topic title (you can do that editing the first post) giving you request a more significative description. With a generic title like this one, it is more difficult to obtain help but, mostly, it will not be helpful for other people with the same problem because impossible to find with search. -
Slave I display Stands
Calabar replied to ZCerberus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Unfortunately ZCerberus uses forum's attachment feature to share the file, and with the new forum the lxf file are not an allowed format anymore. The result is that the file is not available now, the one you downloaded is an empty shell. Luckily ZCerberus is still an active user, and you can try to contact it. PS: avoid to "up" a post so soon. It is not a correct behaviour. -
Rendering like Blakbird
Calabar replied to 1963maniac's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
What about asking Blakbird directly? It seems he is still an active user. -
I love the Lola's MOCs, especially Miller's Nightmare and Undeads' Tower. You can find them here, Maybe you want to try with that? I'll love to have the lxf files of these creations. PS: even if you don't fear hard work and huge models, remember that the digital tools (especially LDD) are not able to manage large amount of bricks, so probably you should split large MOCs in smaller parts. EDIT: it seems that the gallery for some of them, including the Undeads' Tower, is not available anymore: if you need it write here, I'll send the images to you.

[LDD Technique] "Clip Drag"
Calabar replied to The Mugbearer's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It is one of the basic scaffolding technique. Good idea to provide a short video that easily explain it to inexperienced users. It is important to notice that these techniques allows some kind of "fine" movements in LDD, otherwise precluded. For example you can use it to place two minifigures stuff around the neck, or slightly move two colliding bricks to avoid misconnection without manually editing the lxfml file. -
@pagicence There is not a real reservation. I mean you can built the sets and add them in the LDD Official Sets topic even if another builder has already added it to the topic. Even if the set is the same, every build has its unique solutions that makes it interesting. The booking is intended as a reference, but builders are free to follow it or not. If it is the first entry in the LDD Official Sets topic, please carefully read the rules you can find in the first page. If you have any question, you need help or you simply prefer to check your post before adding it to the topic, contact me using private messages.
