LDD: Unable to load file
Calabar replied to Mbrick's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for sharing. It seems a pretty diorama, but at the moment I can't see it in LDD as I'm struggling with a new PC and I've my machines partially disassembled and with an unsettled operating system. -

You're welcome. I'm glad that the result is good enough. -
LDD: Unable to load file
Calabar replied to Mbrick's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Unfortunately the file is corrupted. I tried a manual procedure using an hex editor and I was able to recover some data, but I don't know if the result is adequate. Please download the file from here and check it. -
LDD: Unable to load file
Calabar replied to Mbrick's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You should use an extarnal file hosting/cloud serive. In this caso you can use a LEGO related one such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that are reliable and allow to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlink. -

Probably the file is corrupted. Is it 0 byte? Upload it here, so we can see it. -
Stud.IO Parts List

Probably the answer to your question is "yes", but remains to see how it is difficult. Could you provide a few lines snippet of the csv file, in order to take a look at it? -
Macabricks file storage question
Calabar replied to knotian's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@knotian what do you mean exactly with "true windows compatibility"? -
@mfeldt Any news about your software? Did you try to use the batch file or pyton instructions suggested by M2m?

Thanks for the answer. About using the lxf file directly, I was referring to users with very basic informatics abilities (in the previous post I was looking for a understandable word to describe them, but I forgot to add it ). I often deal with this kind of users and I ensure you that extract an lxf file is a complex (or even prohibitive!) operation for them. If python has a proper library, manage the lxfml file inside the lxf file should not be complex. EDIT: this article seems a quite simple guide and provide the proper methods for our case (open the zip file in read only, read the lxfml file, write a new lxf file using the modified lxfml file and the original lxf image). About the subgroups, I'm glad I've misunderstood the reported sentence. Anyway don't forget that LDD BI can't work on more than three or four sublevels, as remembered in this topic too. Maybe is this the reason why in your experience sub groups seemed to don't influence BI? About the executable, maybe it is not necessary to create a GUI. The application could simply work dragging and dropping the lxfml(lxf) file on the executable, that create a new file containing the index. I've a little executable that works exactly in this way (it fixes srt subtitles), so it is surely possible. Another easier (to implement) solution could be to couple the python file with a batch file (you could call it "drop_on_me.bat"). Dragging the lxfml file on the batch file it will execute the script, something like (need to be tested, probably fixed): @echo off for %%a in (%*) do python2 gs2bi.py "%%a" "%~dp0""%%~na_BI%%~xa" Maybe an error message if gs2bi.py is not in the same directory as the batch file would be very useful too. Something like: @echo off IF EXIST "%~dp0gs2bi.py" ( for %%a in (%*) do python2 gs2bi.py "%%a" "%~dp0""%%~na_BI%%~xa" ) ELSE ( ECHO gs2bi.py have to be placed in the same directory of the batch file pause )

@M2m Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems there are some critical issues using GITHUB: It is not possible to use Forum's user accounts. Create a new account elsewhere could be a significant hindrance for new contributors. Besides they should use their forum's username, or it would be difficult to understand who is who. Some admin have to manage user's LXF files inside GITHUB. This is a huge extra work for admins, considering that files are often updated by users and the present solution allows them to do that independently.

@SylvainLS Surely true, and I already asked about accessing single posts. Unfortunately it seems it requires some technical skill that the main staff can't provide me at the moment. Anyway I think that the problem should be solved, the LDD Official Sets topic is not probably the only thread with these problems and it seems that ever more pages are involved in it. @supertruper1988 The backup is a bit "chaotic", rename the file and index them would be a huge work. Maybe a "zipball" could be shared, but in the past the idea was discarded.

@robncat12 I've an almost complete local backup. Unfortunately if the page is not accessible at all I can't see the file's name, so I've some trouble finding it! I tried a fast search with no results. @M2m The matter is not trivial. This is a forum-related archive, and in the past we discussed about using an external system to manage the index and the database. The main problem is how to manage the contributor access to the archive. At the moment every contributor have the task to maintain his/her creations in a private hosting space. A public hosting space would require some kind of authentication, maybe integrated with the user account of this forum, but such kind of integrated system is not available. I know it is not the best of the situation but, at least, it is easy to manage.

I've no problem in downloading the file from the previous post of SylvainLS. Please try again.

I move here the discussion born in the LDD Official Sets topic. Preamble. The LDD Official Sets topic have some issues and because of that many indexed LXF files are not available for the download. At the moment the main problems are: Some pages are not accessible (surely page 185 and page 170, maybe some other page), due to some unknown problem with the new forum. Solved for pages 185 and 170 (Thanks, Jim!). Please report here if the problem should happen for other pages. Some direct links to LXF files has broken due to the (intentional?) "instability" of this kind of link in some hosting services. Old files shared as forum's attachment are not available anymore, due to the limitations of the attachment in the new forum. Some contributor decided to remove the files from their hosting space or move them without fixing the links in the forum. As this subject often arises inside the LDD Official Sets topic, I created this place where to discuss about these problems and request missing files.

Very interesting work. Anyway I think that if you want really made the difference (compared to hronts's script), your script should operate with the lxf file directly. Surely python provide libraries that allow to easily operate inside zip files. This will avoid the need to extract/repack the lxfml file, an operation that could be not so easy for users. For this kind of users it could be even better if you provide an executable (using PyInstaller?), maybe with a drag-n-drop interface (frankly I don't know if including some kind of GUI could make things too complex). Another heavy limitation seems to be "Each part must be in one and only in one group". Do you mean that the script is not able to manage subgrups? The idea of a list of consecutive groups seems good for a "fine tuning" of instructions, but I think that the most common case is to use an already grouped file (groups are very useful outside the instruction matter) letting the groups will guide the LDD automatic BI generation but not for each single steps. In this way you have not to "destroy" the already present grouping and creating BI becomes a very fast operation.

Mecabricks new flexible part tools
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I mean reset the geometry for a part of the flexible brick only not the whole flexible brick, considering that part of it could have been already connected. In short, a sort of "natural" release of the flexible element. It doesn't seem simple at all! -
Mecabricks new flexible part tools
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It seems a very good implementation: very easy to use and effective. Just a doubt: what about if the part is not elastic as the one showed in the video? If I can stretch the part it is easy to snap it on some brick or clip, but what about parts that can flex but not extended? This seems to add some problem in manage form and position of the brick: for example if I try to snap a terminal part of the flexible brick with a clip too far away, the clip should result unreachable or the brick should be "dragged" along the movement. Have you got a video with a flexible but not extensible part? Beside it would be useful a "reset button" that simulate the property of the flexible "real life" part to return to the original form. -
Your creation seems a very interesting 3D mosaic software. What do you think to edit the first post of this topic and create a presentation page, so it can be added to the section index? Has the software a name?
