LDD Tricks
Calabar replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
1) Very strange, I can't reproduce the trick in my computer with advanced graphics disabled. Could you try to provide a step by step explanation for the trick? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.- 62 replies

"zip" it before attacching. Otherwise you have to use a file hosting or a cloud service to upload the file, and then link it here. -

Problem With LDD, Help!

Please download this software, execute it and create an HTML report. Then attach the report here. -
Hi wlid, welcome in the LDD Official Set topic. Good work for the first entry, but the image have to be fixed, mainly because oversized. I suggest you to reduce size to 320px wide (512x is for big sets only) and cut off the blank right stripe (next to the helmet). With a better placing of the helmet you could obtain a more compact image too. Besides, I added to the set's data the missing set's id. Last but not least, your lxf file is not reachable. I suggest you to create a brickshelf account where to place both lxf files and image. Use direct link for the lxf file, because brickshelf's galleries are moderated. EDIT: I've seen you fixed almost all the issues, but now the image is not adequately cropped because of the presence of a blank stripe on the top and on the bottom of the subject.

Don't worry, if you'll continue tu use LDD and will follow this forum you will learn many tricks about LDD. Look for example at this topic, where users (substantially the user bbqqq so far ) show their tricks! It took me a couple of minutes to fix the two problems you encountered building the set above. About colour, remember that new colours has been introduced in year 2006. The set 1255 was produced in 1999, so it is sure it uses legacy colours. I suggest you to base your build both on instruction and on a brick list, where for each brick you can find the exact model and colour. For example, here is the list provided by Bricklink for set 1255 (but note that Bricklink IDs and Colour names could differ from LDD ones).

I fixed both of these errors. To solve the first, you simply have to slightly turn the car wash holders. To solve the second, you need a simple scaffolding where to connect the end of the hose. Also, I replaced the "new" light gray with the proper "old" gray and I added a missing blue plate 2476 (only the things I noticed with a glance, maybe there are other inaccuracies). Here is the lxf file. You can use it to upgrade you entry, if you want.

Don't worry, no one expects the perfection in our works, we simply have to try to do our best! About the image, note that if you don't fix it, I've to mark the entry as irregular.

If you are on a Windows machine, I suggest you to use LDD Manager to create a starting palette and check correct colours. A pair of notes about your last entry: - the image is not correctly cropped, you have to remove blank vertical stripes. - you linked again the gallery and not the lxf file. The gallery is moderated and not immediately accessible. This time I'll fix it for you. If you have some doubt, ask me.

Don't forget to update the lxf file, it is the old one yet (the one without minifigures). About colours, in this topic builders try to reproduce the sets as similar as possible to the original ones. So personal tastes are not considered, you should use the right colours (luckily LDD allow to replace colours easily).

Good start, but rules are precise. Please take the time to carefully read that. Layout is much better (but I'd prefer the standard "inline" approach). I can adjust it this time, if you want (do I?), so you can take it as reference. I can't adjust the image anyway, so you should take a screenshot respecting the rules. Images have to be simple screenshots, no background. Maximum image size is 512 pixel for the longer side, if the set is a big set (for this set I suggest a 400x size, but with a clearer point of view) The image have to be cropped (no blank stripes around the subject) Hope this helps. Ah, last important thing: the lxf file don't contains the minifigures. You forgot to update it.

@lotrmorgot Your entry is highly irregular. Did you carefully read the rules of the topic as previously suggested? Note that without the minifigures the set is considered and will be tagged as incomplete.

Hi and welcome. In order to add a new set to this topic, you have to: - Read carefully the rules in the first page (you can look at other regular posts for help) - Use a file hosting service where to upload images and lxf files. I suggest you to use brickshelf, that allow direct link. - Create a new post following the rules in order to add the set. I'll add your work to the index, if your entry will be regular.

Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@SheepEater I'm pretty sure the winch is present in LDD. Look for part 73037. The problem of the old parts is that TLG has not the digital models, so that add an old part requires much more work than add a recent part. Old parts will arrive, but with more difficulties. -
Yes, but instructions have to be available. As stated in the rules "if building instructions or set's references are not easily available on common sources, please report that".

@bbqqq According with brickset, the set has not officially released yet. Could you link the official instructions? I can't find that on the TLG site.

No, there is not such a limitation. Check the URL of the images (maybe brickshelf added some extra informations, such as sid), otherwise contact in private me or legolijintle and send us your complete post for some tests.

Putting things in barrel/box
Calabar replied to melodin's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDD has not a "drop" feature, so you have to use some kind of scaffolding. The most used type is composed by technic axles and half bushes, one for each axis: you have to select the object and the bush together, and then move the bush along the axle, moving the object toghether with it. You can find many discussions about that.
