Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I haven't the time to take a look at the list yet, but if the insertion in LDD is due to a mistake, obviously I agree with their removal. I'm less sure for bricks that are identical but TLG uses different ID due to other reasons (for example the material). In this case maintain both the bricks (with different set's number) can be a good thing because when reproducing an official set the result is more accurate. In other situations this replication is not much useful, instead. -
Sets built without official instructions are not allowed here. But the image you linked is exactly a photo of official instructions (in fact, in the advent calendar instructions are on the inner side of each "door"), so I can consider it regular. As you prefer, but that's a pity, your entry was almost regular, you have only to fix the file hosting issue.

[Software] MecaBricks - Online Design Tool
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Not iPad, the integrated browser engine don't support WebGL (unless you jailbreak it and install a recompiled version of Safari, read here). A touch friendly version would be useful for other tablet devices and hybrid PC/notebook with touchscreen. -
The user Aanchir in the LDD forum is a very colour expert and created a complete and updated colour chart. I don't know if the chart present in the LDD Reference topic is up to date ad the moment, but it should be good enough. He collaborates too in the LDD Manager conversion table. Probably Aanchir is the right user to contact for some explanation and suggestions about this thread. The management of colours in digital LEGO is not trivial.

@legoboyvdlp As you told, image is oversized. I removed it in the meantime. If you have problems with Brickshelf (that is absolutely sure), you can use another good service: bricksafe. About creating a good screenshots for this topic, I suggest you to read this guide. EDIT: it seems that MocPages converts uploaded images in jpg, so I suggest you to use another file hosting service. EDIT (again! ): Now the image is good, but as you can see, it appears two times. Besides I can't access the lxf file (some kind of permission problem). Please avoid to use the forum's attachment function but move image and file to brickshelf or bricksafe as suggested.

Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Superkalle Anyway, the advantage of the more versatile part is clear: with it I can cover all the cases, while the other choice prevent me to work on old school designs (admitted that the more versatile design is an old design, that is not necessarily true). As DBM is not active anymore, I can't see any advantage in use the less versatile part. Besides, if I use Bricklink as source of the parts for my MOCs, I can retrieve both the parts, and not ever the present part is more easy or cheap to buy. I still think the the best choice is the one that grants the greater flexibility, because it is more suitable for more people and more needs. If I'm building a MOC, frankly I don't mind if someone think that I should not be temped to use that piece, I want to use that piace and I can easily have it (maybe even I have a lot of these parts in my LEGO collection and I don't need to buy that). This is not a matter of use legal or illegal designs. Thanks for the list, I'll take a look at that. Anyway, as you can guess, I think that no piece is unwelcome and there is no need to remove even similar pieces since they are recognizable from part's number and description. If a builder want simplicity he can use the LDD mode instead than the extended mode. -
Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A little note about similar but different designs. LDD includes the bar 6140 and not the similar bar 4873. As you can see, these bars are very similar in appearance, so that you can think you can use one instead than the other in your sets. There is an error, but it is an acceptable error. The true is different: the two bars are not equivalent, one of that is more versatile than the other, and unfortunately LDD includes... the other. A different choice, that is include the more versatile version, would be much better. To better understand what I mean, take a look at my Galactic Peace Keeper: I was not able to fit the antennas 3957 inside the bar, because holes was closed, and that prevent me to correctly assembly the set. Moral of the story: not all similar parts are equivalents, and if only one should be included, then it would be better that is the more versatile one. -
Hi legoboyvdlp, welcome and thanks for your contribution. You post is quite well formatted, but the image is necessary, there are precise rules on how to share a set. I think that a brickshelf account can solve all your problems: it allows to store both LEGO related images and lxf files using direct links (the attachment function of the forum is not adequate for the aim of this topic). If you have any problem on editing your entry, please ask me.

[Software] MecaBricks - Online Design Tool
Calabar replied to Scrubs's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Very good! It would be more interesting if that happened in two separated stages: at first mechabricks displays the hight quality render and then you can take the screenshot. In this way you can view the hight quality graphics in live view and not only in the screenshot. The app for Android would be very interesting, but it seems to me that in this way mecabricks looses his webapp identity, and the feature would no be accessible from other mobile OS, especially the minor ones. But probably it would be the best user experience for Android users. The first person control is a great idea. -

About the rendering, when you will expand your knowledge of this subject, it would be interesting to have a "screenshot mode", where a single frame is rendered with all there effects that would be to heavy for a 3D animated scene. I mean, if for a fluid movement the scene should be produced at 30fps (1/30 of a second to render a single frame), it would good to have a button that repaint the scene even in few seconds, but with a better graphics, so that you can make a wonderful screenshot. Any news about the touch-friendly GUI? I added mecabricks to the bookmarks of some friend's browsers in their tablet, but it was very difficult to use it with the touchscreen. -
The realistic plant is very nice. I suppose it would result in an over five thousand parts set (and over 500€ too!). About the tricks you used (FOV trick and Camera trick), did you explain that somewhere?
-
The problem is not iPad, but its browser: it misses the WebGL support. On iOS the core for every browser is ever the same. We already discussed this speaking about mecabricks, the other LEGO 3D CAD based on WebGL.

Question about LDD decals
Calabar replied to Wodanis's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No, it infringes the EULA and is not allowed (see the Section Rules about this). -
The LEGO Game, in collaboration with Google, presents a new Online CAD Software experiment. At the moment, this software seems very simple, with a limited palette of bricks and colours. The software requires a browser and any device with WebGL capabilities, that could be a Personal Computer, a Tablet, a Smartphone... At the moment I tested it with Chrome, Firefox and Opera on a Personal Computer. The peculiarity of this web application is that it has Social features: you can build your creations in a virtual LEGO word where your position is tracked by the GPS function of your device (if any). Link: Build with Chrome.

Question about LDD decals
Calabar replied to Wodanis's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Courleciel Yes, you can apply decorations only on "decorable surfaces". So only bricks that have one or more decorable surfaces can be decorated. -
@XENOPHREAK Two things. - You linked the wrong image for the set 42000. It is a rendering instead than a screenshot. - Remember to inform me if you modify or correct some lxf among your entries.

Hi mzoli, welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic. Your entry is almost regular, you forgot to crop the image. In the meantime I'll convert the image in a text link. PS: I suggest you to take the screenshot as big as possible, and then downsample the image to obtain a better quality screenshot. You can find this and other suggestions in this guide.

Thanks again! I hoped in something more... automated! Maybe bbqqq, that loves to play with lxfml file, could find a good solution, starting from the conversion list of the LDD Manager. He already created an lxf file containing all the parts that contains surfaces that can be decorated, maybe the step from there is not too long. bbqqq, do you read me?

Thanks! When you will fix images, remember that the one for the set 6024 is a bit oversized for such a small set! What a confusion... New Brown is easy to understand, but I thought that Old Brown was the brown used before 2005/2006 in most of the classic sets. It is Earth Orange instead. Luckily I didn't built officila sets in recent times!

@Crist Clapper Take a look at the LDraw info topic, you can find the link in the Section Index, one of the two pinned topics of this section.

Thanks! It seems you are not an LDD novice! The models you posted are huge and complex, and the post is perfectly regular. Welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic, I hope we will see other contributions for you soon! @PeabodySam (but not only ) Remember that the 512 size is for big sets! As reference, take a look at penguinz's post here, he sized his sets very well. @BlackJezus Should I wait you fix your entry?

@BlackJezus Hi, and welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic. Your post is highly irregular, you should read the rules of the topic in the first page and fix it. Take a look at other regular entries could help you. Main problems are: post is not well ordered and formatted, lxf file is missing, you should use file hosting site with hotlink support to upload images and lxf files (you can use brickshelf), images are oversized, an image is not cropped, set's data are incomplete and not highlighted, list of inaccuracies missing. Besides, try to avoid the gray background and maintain the alpha layer of LDD screenshots. If you need any help, ask me. In the meantime I remove the images from your post to avoid confusion.
