Ah - I should have thought of Bricksmith (I tried to find the tool used thanks to leftovers in file but failed, Bricksmith is very clean!). The cookware stuff of set 41006 is available on PT, using LDD part numbers: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=cookware . Nice to see another Friends set modeled!

Nice job on this series! There is no "patterned" version of planet, but blank one does exist as 98107.dat (official part)

Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Philo replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Maybe you should try LDCad, it's sooooooooooo comfortable to use ;) - After that it's a question of personal preference... -
I generally keep specialized parts in the folder containing the model, but since I guess you are going to reuse these ones, your solution is probably the best! Otherwise, you would get better rendering (especially of transparent parts) using LDView as renderer. Granted, it's a bit slower but on a modern machine that shouldn't make much difference. Unfortunately it's quite possible that changing renderer will break your pagination if it is tight.

[Help] Lsynth Technic tread
Philo replied to Tommy Styrvoky's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, LDCad does quite a bit of the work of LSynth, and much, much more easily. Unfortunately for Tommy, it runs only on Windows and Linux (maybe a virtual machine would help?) -
LDview doesn't have an ortho projection strictly speaking, but if you set the field of view to a very low value (0.1°) that does the trick. But printscreen with LDcad works fine too!

Want to make non-LEGO LEDs
Philo replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
To me it looks pretty expensive for an ordinary LED lamp that has have a pretty low brightness (10mcd) ! Note also that 5mm LED may not fit well a Technic hole (whose diameter is 4.8mm). Some LEDs have a slightly conical shape that make them better suited than pure cylindrical ones like this one (Radio-Shack should provide a mechanical drawing!) That said... Here is how to calculate resistor: - Maximum current is 28mA, let's use 25mA to be safe - Nominal supply is 9V and typical LED voltage is 2.25V. Resistor will thus have to drop 9-2.25 = 6.75V - Resistor is then 6.75 / 0.025 = 270 ohm. By chance this is a standard value... - I also suggest that you use a protection diode (1N4148, 1N914, 1N4151...) across LED terminals. LEDs don't like to be powered in reverse! (edit): I missed 1974 comments that describe solution quite well too! -

[HELP] PF V1 Receiver
Philo replied to nychase's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with Blackbird - note that while aluminium is a good conductor, its surface may be covered by an thin, invisible alumine (oxyde) film which is an insulator... And if you use a 9V 43362 motor, clearly there is no need for V2 receiver, its maximum current is well below rating of V1. -

[Help] Using LDD, MLCad
Philo replied to moschino's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I guess you mixed up names... LDView is only a LDraw viewer (albeit extremely useful, and often used to create images for building instructions). The editor program that matches your description is LDCad. Otherwise I fully agree with your advices ;)
