The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Wow - yeah the Uni-Kitty is wildly weird and fun. I like those eye tiles on the snail and suspect the "bronie-factor" may help sales on this one. The unikitty itself (What is the tail piece, I wonder) may be a valuable "single" figure in its own right. I have no idea what's going on in that set, but I like it! Can't wait for the movie...
  2. I'm actually really liking this line up - there's not a figure, I think, where I would be disappointed if I got them. (Granted, I only buy CMF four or five a series - I gave up trying to worry about collecting them all). Of course, if I had time to feel through the bags I'd look for Lincoln and the Staplebot first - but really any of these could fit in my collection. I'm really digging the Badcop motorcycle helmet so I can do a THX1138 thing. But I suppose that's what the movie is in a way anyway.

Babylon 5 interviews, artwork and other stuff

Hi - this is an awesome resource. I was only a mild fan of the show - I enjoyed the art and the feel of the base - that it had levels that no authority could touch - and the carefully crafted, distinct tone each race had. In so far as space-station dramas, I know this was an important work. I never quite figured out the larger arc for the story, or why the aliens all had cabbage where their hair should be. I am a simple human being (And couldn't watch much TV at the time this was out). But the graphics and the ships - that's great forever. Is BFScrolls your site? If so, very impressive work and thanks for sharing - if not - thanks for sharing all the same - but where's the best place to show thanks - the facebook page?

Kenner Imperial troop Transporter in lego bricks.

Nice brick redux of an obscure old toy. It never got the iconic treatment it deserved. There's a number of these strange Kenner toys like that. Anyway - looks great and true to the orginal - sturdy and utilitarian. I, too, am really digging that blue Power Droid! I'm going to have to hit your site up and see what else you've been up to lately. It's been too long since my last visit - thanks for sharing!

    [Moc] Seawall Cascade

Really nice detailing and layering of the terrain. Is the only brickarms you were using in the Ballista, those little two-way clips? What's making the white highlights on the water? Is it just the lighting?

    (MOC) Pkf.92 Geierjager for Ma.Ktober Fest 2013

Yeouch - this thing just tells everyone it's an angry fist of a ship, and to watch out. Great job conveying the mercenary attitude. No one sees this thing coming and doesn't know trouble follows close behind. I can see this thing barreling through a crowded market and upturning the cafe and vegetable stands -

MOC - LOTR - Elven Swan Ship

Wow. They should totally make this. One would hope they would have already had this set "in the wings" for when the License sunsets - but if they didn't, they should now. Great render, and I would love to have that hull in white.

How do you wash your LEGO... Seriously?

I had the same thing happen, but it was a dog - I washed the lot in in dishsoap, hot water, and dried it out. But, Sadness - I had some old 80's knights with the lion and crossed axes motifs on their chests. The gold chrome printing washed off many of them. Could have been the heat. Could have been the soap. Could have been the urine. Or none of the above - they could have just been old. I haven't heard of any problems washing very occasionally with soap and water - You'd assume normal play and handling is rougher than a wash (and they plan for that). Lego is Tough. Or resilient, at least. I recently bought a bin at a yardsale - lots of crushed, bent, broken pieces, odd warhammer bits and coins, sadly painted and ruined minifigs...and the worst part: it was like someone spilled a coke in there and let it sit in a super-hot attic for 15 years. The bottom layer lived in a thick sludge of gooey syrup mixed with petrified dust, hair, and the other stuff that always finds its way down to the bowels of the tupperware. But,some soap, water (lukewarm), and a slight case of "toothbrush-elbow" later, everything looks great. Some pieces were pitted a bit, and some seem stained forever. But I quite like the collection as is. The pieces have a history, albeit a dark one, and I'm happy to have them. The more bricks the merrier.

MOC: Flowershop (made by my wife)

Wow - I'm happy because I like the post. Great shop. The front is familiar to me somehow and "feels right." Like I've been there in a dream. Though...maybe it's the judge's gavel that's making me think that and nothing to do with the shop. Though I really like the interior (and the inverted cone in a 2x2 tile-as-base for the flowerpot) I think it's the outside courtyard that really makes this feel real to me. I am a bit bummed, though - no fault of the poster. I've been finding little green plastic leaves around the house. I think my 2-yr old daughter has been breaking my lego plants.... oh well, I needed some 1x1 cylinders in green anyhow...

    Early LEGO in Central Europe

I guess it's become standard that KKK in LEGO terminology refers to Kjeld, and I get it - no worries. But as a non-white US citizen, I just wanted to throw my voice out and agree with Lego Otaku - it's a sensitive issue in the US. If you were working with a big publisher here, they'd probably force the switch to "K^3" (Sorry, can't type K-cubed at the moment) or "Triple K" for audiences here. And I don't think everyone "knows" the acronyms inherently, they're learned. Younger fans who, especially in the US, exist in the full spectrum of racial demographics may be confused in the onset and I think it is not an issue that can be simply dismissed as trivial. Then again - what can he do - it's his name. ANYWAY - that isn't why I came here - all I wanted to comment on really is how I would love TLG (or someone) to reprint the cylindrical canisters. Love the design - those would sell like crazy in boutique stores. I also really like the cardboard inserts inside of those boxes. Maybe a CUUSOO Set with all of this stuff in it? Thanks again for Historian sharing these photos.

    China-made sets

Yes, I think it's just dependent on local law...but as AmperZand points out - almost everyone/everything just indicates. As a kid I recall checking out all my action figures to see if they were made in Hong Kong or wherever. I do wonder how LEGO makes the sets - if it's ALL Starwars in Denmark, All LOTR in China, etc. I know in the Guitar-world, identical models and year of guitars are highly sought over if they are produced in certain countries over another, due to slight variations in quality. Maybe it will be this way for LEGO eventually. Even if standards are rigorous, there's bound to be some variation over time, I would imagine. Also will be seen in the "black market" for LEGO - where certain parts emerge in bulk from one country or another to be trafficked by the resellers.

Is your LEGO Room getting too cold?

Where is this from? Did they custom make it or just deco over an old radiator? I'm assuming it's metal or something? Would enjoy hearing more details... Oh, wait. Got it - First announced in 2008, the Brick Radiator by Italian Design company Scirocco... They are indeed modular and evidently efficient (Each stud has its own plumbing and provides additional surface to release heat). Looks like these are available? Maybe only on the secondary market and maybe very expensive, and from what I can see don't look as much like LEGO as above, but rather single plates. Cool find, great dredge up of something I missed back then.

    Lego Golden Girls Kitchen

Thank you for being a friend. This is so fantastic. Just shared it on everything. A number of AFOLs in the U.S. are probably old enough to remember days staying home from school and seeing this show run, in some cities it seemed like, all day. CUUSOO seems to be a great place for 80's nostalgia to be reborn as brick, and this is epic - I could see a large numbers of people supporting this -- The Golden Girls Wikipedia page is an interesting read - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Girls (For one, there's a little history about the Kitchen Filming Set itself) but also this gem of a line - Promising! People have been talking about more LEGO-Disney matchups! There you go! "As a tribute to the success of The Golden Girls, all four actresses were later named Disney Legends." Now, if only someone would make Three's Company!

    jack mech hammer!

Great. Took me a while to see the flame jets out the back of the feet - nice touch. Also that the mech mirrors the motions of the rider (as opposed to just being "piloted.") Look out, baddies - two hammers coming at you!

    The Yellow Arrow

Well, yellow is the fastest color. And the black with it spells, "danger!" I would use one of these in a minis game. I like it. Hopefully constructive criticism: I think the angle in the front is good. Overall, though, the model seems a little plain to me, but only because I don't have a scale/other ships to compare it to. Not sure if you could identify one or two bricks that could be replaced with "3 plates" that may allow something else in there...a spot of grey or more black or something to break up the flatness of it. Or maybe there's a good printed yellow tile that could be repurposed to good effect. Are the two black curved slopes in the middle the cockpit? Maybe differentiate the curves on the wings, then? I like the black on the wings but the exact same shape there is a bit visually distracting. Otherwise, good silhouette and shape - what's the back look like?
  17. The old trick I used to use is to take a LEGO Goblet, which fits around the outside of the minifig head base, and then pull. The non-use of the outside of the head meant there was usually still enough clutch there to out-do the clutch of the headgear. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2343 That said, this was official lego to official lego, back in the day. Not sure if this 3rd party mask is too tight, even for this trick.

    [MOC] "Ktulhu"

Great colors and detailing. I really like the trans 2x2 porthole on the side, even though it doesn't look like you can see through it.

    Latest Cuusoo decision

Wow - this is pretty big news. What I like is that once a set is made...theoretically we can see sets that spin off of that (Minecraft). I'm curious as to how they will change the design to fit mass production and make it available. I'm excited to see how this pans out. I'm upset for HJ media - Even though they were probably a little close to the Galaxy Squad in terms of timing, the work was undeniably good. I'm big fans of the work they do in 3D. Maybe their next line "Hyperborea" will do well - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/41218 it certainly needs supporters!

Future of the CMF as licensed characters

I think, too, there's just the factor of wanting to "keep their toes in the water" when it comes to a certain price point and portion of the niche market. CMFs are great for "point of sale purchases" (AKA impulse buy, AKA, you bought it as you were at the register) and for the secondary market (Okay, that's anecdotal - do resellers like the CMFs?) Also, and more importantly, everyone is doing these "blind figure packs" - not just clone brands but across the toy market. From hobby games to weird mass-market "trend toys" (Like Pod Fighters?) there's always a point in the market for "random figure in a package" I think the CMF line is a victim of its own success...look at the upcoming Kreo Line for Dungeons and Dragons from Hasbro - from what I've seen the bulk of sales will succeed on the impulsive collecting habits of army builders - the most expensive set in the 2014 opening Spring wave is about 25.00, but there's ...a complete line of 36 CMF (2.99), 10 "non blind figures with accessories" (4.99), 3 battle packs (two figs, 8.99). 75 total figures/variations over the sets.

    BrickQueen from YouTube

Greetings, BrickQueen. I can only emulate everyone else. I've seen your reviews and welcome you here - thanks for all the work for the greater community.
  22. As I understand, they would patent for two reasons - one, to create something and protect it. Two - to protect an idea just so some other company couldn't create it to rival them. Clone brands...insidious, they are. As for the fourth piece (Great find, by the way - thanks for bringing it up) I suspect it's more reason one than two, compounded with the fact they couldn't find a use for it. But then, 1997....they'd wisened up quite a bit by then. It could have been just to keep it protected, even though they had no intention of producing it. 10 years is a long time in business years.

Conwy Castle(built by my little brother)

Very good. I was nowhere near this talented at 11. Or now, for that matter. My sense of "completeness" for a model is satisfied well before the level that you and your brother display in these builds is reached. I'm pretty happy as soon as there are walls and don't finish with all the superb detailing. That said, I really do appreciate the way your brother made a very playable looking castle. Hands can get in the areas and nothing looks fiddly or breakable. (We don't really talk about castles being swooshable, but I've seen plenty that look pretty but would fall apart if squeezed.) Are you two collaborating on anything larger?

Fact: LEGO is bad for your health

Building with Lego is like Drinking in that it's only bad for you if you do it alone. Or if you start right in the morning. Or if you build so much you begin failing at the rest of your life, making your friends and family concerned. Or if you lie about building or feel guilty or ashamed about building. Or you regularly build more than you intend to. Or...feel you need to build in order to "take the edge off." Gosh. I'm in trouble. At least I don't do clone brands...I hear they can really wreak havoc with your System.
