March's Double VIP- What are you buying?
TheLegGodt replied to TheFuzz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Many things on my wishlist. I'm thinking delving into the elves sets. Want the easter set as well. Still on the fence about the new Avenger UCS set. Maybe one Pirates set. -
It's an interesting variation, looks well done. For me I prefer the original set so you can see the line through.

I do, my Slave is nicely snickered. The 'worst' that can happen is that one day they come-off. No sign of that happening yet though...

Just wondering, has anyone heard whether TLG will release a second wave of 5 Mini Modulars just as they did for the first 5 modulars a number of years ago? I really enjoyed that set, almost as much as building their bigger brothers. Since we are now counting 10 modulars I can imagine the next 5 mini modulars are due...

Thanks for sharing this Incomplet! It has my vote and I wonder maybe it has less votes because it looks just like the set that LEGO would produce i.e. People expect this to be released anyway? As far as I recall they had no problem selling them. I think both normal and mini are great and so far I have been very pleased that both have existed. I bought a second set for my father who has been very impressed with my Modulars collection. He really liked having a smaller version (he's not an AFOL like me - his generation does not really know LEGO). Fingers crossed it will see the day of light...

Thanks for pointing those out Fred! I had no idea these existed, very frustrating that they only put them out in the US. Being a European company one might think that Europe gets special treatment but all we get are higher prices and a miss on this kind of sets... But that being said, those mini modulars are nothing like the kind of mini modulars that would exist if they were derived from their larger counterparts. And TLG does tend to honour traditions, so who knows we may still get a new set of 5. Here's hoping but for now then no information to go on so it seems...

Personally i think this is a tricky comment. I appreciate on the one hand the sentiment but there is an acusation hidden there that leads us down a path of intellectual property riights and LEGO stopping their Ideas portal if this kind of thinking were to become common. I think then that we will all lose....

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! -
Really? Real gravel from a garden center? Doesn't that get messy? I like the grass! Good to get inspiriation. Did gou consider round 1x1 plates in light grey, dark grey, white and black for example? That is what I am considering...

I bought a minifigure set of that movie with Johnny Depp (god knows his name in the movie) and some pirates and skellingtons. I love seeing him run away from them on my beach scene in my layout. But that's about all I found worth buying from those sets.

Disappointed Lego Customer Service - Order cancelled
TheLegGodt replied to m3eu's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agee it is a comprehensive issue that needs a holistic approach. It isn't easy but then what is when it is worth having? But it is perfectly possible to do and there are many real-life examples. My reasons for wanting LEGO to up their game in this area are completely selfish ones: in the short term reliability for myself and in the long term a company that remains healthy in all aspects of their business so we can keep enjoying their wonderful products! The thing is, LEGO needs to consider whether they want to be so dependent on such unreliable suppliers since it rubs off badly on their own reputation as well. Witness this thread. Many companies consider integration (e.g. Acquiring critical suppliers or distributors) as long as the business case is there. Thing is, it is LEGO's business how they conduct their operations but we AFOLs are expressing concerns and I hope TLG is paying attention.- 16 replies

Disappointed Lego Customer Service - Order cancelled
TheLegGodt replied to m3eu's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i completely disagree! In these days of big data and massive amounts of processing power, not to mention many best practices in real time stock management, there is NO EXCUSE other than POOR OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT here. If you combine this with other things going wrong like miserable launches of new sets (e.g, Exosuit) and poorly socked stores on the 1st / 2nd of January when a bunch of new sets went live, I think it is time that senior management stars kicking in and implements new measures. On the other hand, perhaps these are isolated events that are blown up here. I really hope so and fortunately I have had no disappointments myself with ordering online but what I mentioned about the store was personal experience as well as others here on the forum...- 16 replies

Beautiful and an original subject matter! This is front page stuff!! -
Do you think these 2 set could be useful for city?
TheLegGodt replied to El Garfio's topic in LEGO Town
I agree. We are talking LEGO here after all, a bit of licence and liberty with styles and scale is almost mandatory IMO. I have countless themes mixed together in my layout. I find it fun and creative to come up with the combinations and work out ways to fit different stuff together in a context that works. E.g. Imagine how CARS sets can mix with the Palace Cinema?! -
Felicitations, Lego friends...

Welcome Ken. My re-spirited hobby also started with a winter village (toy shop) set bought on a whim at Legoland in Germany. Was a chance visit for the kids. Did not expect to 'fall in love' again so to speak. Good luck with you new AFOL ways and I hope you have enough money in the bank for all the lovely models out there! -
Well ShaydDGrai we are in a similar situation. I also do quite a bit of spending outside LEGO S&H, also on the second hand market when catching up with older models I previously missed out on. I a forunate to have a good job that allows some financial freedom, but its a choice about what to spend your disposable income on. Anyhow, as a kid my parents weren't poor and I was the happiest boy when I got my annual SPACE or TECHNIC set. May sets I would have loved to of gotten but were simply out of budget.. Yes, my wife is really also quite understanding. But everything has its limits! I think this has to be the best usage of VIP points I have read in this whole section. You have my vote!

Hi there also from Holland. Same age. Welcome!

On the 5th of January (this year) they did an extra double point day for people who ordered something on their previous double VIP point day (last year). That was something of an unexpected bonus.

It's a bit of everything in my case. I generally buy all the big sets and other stuff that catches my eye. My yearly spend over the past few years has been in the 1000s of euros each year, and that number does not begin with a 1. This year already I have bought the new modular, the 2 new creator houses, the complete CMF, the Slave 1, Birds and other stuff. I don't like to fall behind because there is always something else new around the corner. But as the room fills I do foresee a slowdown on the spending i.e. more selective buying... Either that or my wife will divorce me ;-)

I save them for a year and then treat myself to a free set or heavily discounted set. I had a lot this year, about 115 euros so I got the Slave I for less than half price.

As far as I know there are no exlcusive sets. The sets you metioned are only obtained if you take the exclusive factory tour or as a present to staff as far as I know...

I try to buy at Lego store Germany because they are cheaper than S@H in the Netherlands. E.g latest modular is 10 euros cheaper! That really does not make sense! Personally I would look at it more positively: it is great that LEGO often do give free giveaways. Are we not a little spoilt if they fail to do so one month? Finally, I must mention I was disappointed at the service at Lego store in Overhausen. I got there on the 2nd of Jan nice and early to secure the latest sets and they were not even in the shop! I was considered a bit of nuisance that I insisted they check in the back but they wouldn't do so for all sets. I wouldn't mind if I could rely in buying then the next day but Lego is so hyped nowadays (and I do realize I am participating in the madness as well) that you have to get in quick if you do not want to miss certain it sets...
