Don't find this strange at all. It's all about value and rarity. It's like buying any item that is very rare and appeals to people. Even if TLG bring out another UCS Falcon, this particular set is still unique to this series. Even if the new model is considered even better. In a couple of years it will likely be even more valuable. A good investment. The only the thing the buyer can't do with it is open it and build it. Then it will lose a lot of it's appeal being one of the only MISB sets. I wonder what an opened and built 10179 would go for in today's market?

That's a fair point though I can't recall too many promotions in the summer months. Anyone seen the June store calender?
-
I'm certainly ordering it tomorrow. Together with a power functions kit. Probably take a while before I actually build it though. I predict it will be out of stock around the 2nd week of July, once it's been on sale for around 2 weeks in non-VIP circles. It will then come back in and remain in stock until next summer when it (sadly) sells out. I don't think this set will ever end-up discounted, so no need to speculate on price. So I say, go get it right now. But then, if everyone thought like this, then the above prediction would certainly not come true...

And even if it wasn't plaisible... Where does this obsession from some AFOLs come from that their LEGO layout must be as realistic as possible? Just one trip down The Strip in Las Vegas shows us that a mutlitude of wacky ideas and scales (I mean seriuously the eiffel tower coming out of a bar?) can be mixed as you like. Break the rules, forget convention. Our hobby is about creativity, right?! Let's act our age ;-) (By the way, not that I am saying that Las Vegas is anying to aspire to ;-)

I have exactly this. About 6 modulars to the left, 4 at the top, then 3 to the right. And a beach and sea inbetween. As well as many suburban (i.e. Creator houses) buildings and 'filler stuff' (such as a de-winterized version of the WV Carroussel) thrown in in the foreground for good measure. Behind the beach I am going to place the Ferris wheel. Which is bad news for the Eiffel tower that is currently occupying that spot. It is time for that set to retire to storage for a couple of years until it is time to display it again (or if I start taking over another adjacent spare room but I think my wife will protest -;) p.s. in case you're wondering, I have space for 13 modulars but since we have had only 10 I still have some space for expansion...

Lego store staff tend to be badly informed. I guess for many of them it's just a job. But I cannot recall an instance that an early released VIP set has not been released simultaenuously in US and Europe alike. So this should be fine.

Wow with each update photo it looks better and better. Thanks for posting pzh2000! And it confirms like we all thought that it can optionally be used with Power Functions.

Funny how tastes differ. I really like the colours, think they are very sunny, reminds me of a sea-side big wheel. On the other hand, i don't really care too much for the colours of the mixer. I don't hate them, they just doesn't go wow for me either though Unless you are a modular collector I would certainly prefer the Wheel over the DO. The DO does not stand out as much, is only an OK addition to the series.

I certainly am a perfectionist but that also goes with my line of work. But I do know my boundaries and when to accept something less. Having said that, when I buy a used retired set, since you pay a bit of a premium (I always try to negotiate but they can smell my desire to get my hands on it haha) I always pick it up in person. I also always ask that the set is built and that it has a box and instructions. That way I can inspect the set before I buy it. I also try to check the sellers' house, like are they smokers etc. Sometimes I have driven 4 hours (back and forfth) to get the set I want. Once I asked someone to send me the set (it wasn't too dear, it was one of the early Creator houses from 2007) and unfortunately some of the bricks were dirty and even scratched. So I washed it and rebuilt it in a way that the defects wouldn't show. I learnt my lesson. Mostly though I do not bother washing used sets but I do dust them with a cloth. It's because I'm worried (perhaps traumatised) that the bricks will lose their clutch power. I do always disassemble them first and then rebuild a couple of weeks later. I hate doing the disassembly but I refuse to display a set that I did not build myself.

I want brand new sets in pristine condition along with box, perfect instructions, etc. So in principle I don't buy second hand. But if I always said no to used sets I would not have sets like the MF 10179, the Grand Carroussel amd the Cafe Corner in my collection. Lego sets are my passion, my hobby and collectors dream. I see used sets as antiques that are worth hunting down and worth paying a premium for because they are worth it.

For Sale - Lego 10210 Imperial Flagship
TheLegGodt replied to Captain Heineken's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Here's some unwanted advice: Don't sell, you'll regret it one day. Your girlfriend needs to accept you and your hobbies. LEGO lasts, relationships don't always ;-)- 2 replies

Really? have you EVER seen a ferris wheel in real life that isn't repetitive? By that reasoning any object or structure with a large amount of symmetry would be disqualified from becoming a LEGO set. I am SO relieved they have not continued with the design cue that it must fit on a truck. The mixer would have been so much better if they could have just focused on delivering a really cool mixer. The truck IMO is just a novel gadget that is best forgotten.

Brilliant, far nicer than I was expecting. Personally I love the colours and the design/detail at the base. Will look awesome with the mixer and carrousel. Day 1 purchase for me.

And there I was thinking that, judging by the title, this would lead to an ADULT-fol discussion haha

Looking forward to your review Grendelego. There are not nealy enough of them nowadays. My order for the KEM has been placed. I have a custom buiilt table with about 4m2 of space. Modulars are spread around over 3 main streets. They look great! May there be many more to come!

Help needed starting with Technic
TheLegGodt replied to SMC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Before scavenging the sets for parts I would definitely go ahead and build the technic set first. They are great builds and just as rewarding as regular lego sets. i am saying this as an AFOL who generally prefers regular sets but loves to build the odd Technic one as well.... -

By the way, if you are looking for what might become a classic flagship City set, check out 60097. It's coming in May or June this year and looks like good value with some interesting features such as a Lego store (who doesn't want one in their Town Layout?) and a tram. The builds will likely be a bit on the easy side but I suspect you can easily mod them to satisfy your own taste. -

Agree: Creator and Creator Expert (Modulars!) will be much more satisfying. Sometimes though, other themes (including possibly unlikely ones like Elves) contain some nice 'filler' sets and attributes. I find the bulk boxes of random bricks rather unhelpful personally. I do PAB orders to get specifically what I want. Some people consider this an expensive option and would rather Bricklink to save money. I would rather save time. Some sets are very helpful for getting exclusive bricks you may want (e.g. specific foliage in a certain colour) but I personally swear by PAB. -
I am pretty sure there are lids for those IKEA Trofast storage bins. In fact, you can't be sure there not on the bins used in the photos... Nice LEGO work room by the way, but my question is: where do you DISPLAY all your lovely models?

[MOC] Display stand modular to collactable space minifigs
TheLegGodt replied to recifaliste's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Nice idea, well executed! Perhaps I might try it for other non-space minifigs. -
Absolutely awesome - it sounds like you two had a lot of fun preparing this feast. Congratulations!

There has already been a whole thread on this. As far as I know the next one will be in October.

I like this a lot. Very fluid and smooth. And funny. Also like the continuity goof where the stormtroopers suddenly have weapons half way theough the movie
