I saw the FebRovery event on flickr and enjoyed looking at all the unique rover creations. Classic space was one of my favorite themes as a kid, so I thought I'd build a little Lego rover and join in. It only took me about an hour or so, which wasn't enough for me. That's when I built this mobile space crane. It's somewhat functional, with manual controls. The crane rotates 360 degrees and goes up and down.

Black hotrod (8070 B) remote controlled
drdesignz replied to bmollema's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice, I love hot rods (in case you can't tell :P). I used the same wheels/tires front and back for my large scale hot rod. I'm not aware of a better combo at this scale. -

I'm glad to see you've been so successful on Cuusoo. I remember when you posted this project. I was one of the first supporters. It looks like you're well on your way now to reaching the 10,000 vote goal. Congratulations! -

A big machine idea
drdesignz replied to Carsten Svendsen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've seen a few ridiculously huge Lego cranes, like this one, so I think minifig scale might be possible with the appropriate truss design with cable (string) support. -
I see people are still receiving them, so hopefully I'll still get one too. I spent a few thousand dollars last year, so I like to think I qualify.

Custom Hot Rod Pickup Truck

Custom Hot Rod Pickup Truck
drdesignz replied to drdesignz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the vote! I wanted to put in suicide doors, but the geometry with the curved bricks wouldn't allow it. Making the truck a couple studs longer in this area didn't look quite right, so I couldn't figure out a good way to pull it off and went with regular doors. Thanks! I would have liked to use more chrome. But since this is a Cuusoo project I figured it would be better if I only used official Lego pieces. One of these days I will order a pile of those fancy third party chrome pieces though. Thanks! Thanks! Except that is supposed to be a fuel tank :P I suppose it could also be a nitrous bottle though, if you consider the fuel tank is under the bed :) -

Model Team
drdesignz replied to Paul B Technic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Model Team is my favorite classic theme. There are plenty of current models that are fantastic too. Creator is the closest theme to Model Team, like Highway Pickup (7347). There are also exclusive, large scale sets that are not part of a theme. Volkswagen T1 Camper Van (10220) and Shuttle Expedition (10231), for example, are very nice. You could also do what I've been doing recently, and buy the old Model Team sets. You can still find them online for sale. Not exactly cheap usually, but occasionally you can get very lucky on eBay. I did, in the last couple weeks. I'll post pictures shortly. -
How much do you spend on Technic?
drdesignz replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I came out of the dark ages about a year and a half ago. I have bought a ridiculous amount since then and keep track of my collection with the help of a couple websites. I only bought a dozen Technic sets, but they're mostly the biggest available (including Mindstorms), at an approximate total of $1,850 (USD). Star Wars is my favorite and I own 88 sets worth about $4,950. I have 27 Creator sets, including modular buildings and a train, totalling $1,750. I bought 13 generic brick sets for $425 and 37 miscellaneous sets for $1,075. That's just over ten grand in the last year and a half, so about $6,500 per year on average. But this doesn't include the individual pieces bought from Bricklink. I probably have another $500 there. It's somewhat of a problem, really. I'm addicted, I admit. I don't even have time to build everything I buy. I'll probably end up on that television show "Collection Intervention" within a few years... -

A lot of my favorites are already listed here. I think Bricksonwheels wasn't mentioned yet, unless I missed it. Legohaulic has some amazing creations also. More Model Team type stuff. edit: I just notice how old this topic is... -

Custom 1962 VW Truck
drdesignz replied to drdesignz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, the real life trucks have a shallow bed with storage underneath, just as you described. This is a highly modified custom truck of my own design. -

Custom 1962 VW Truck
drdesignz replied to drdesignz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I wouldn't say "simply"... I rebuilt it from scratch. The front end is mostly the same, but some of that was also changed. The rest of the truck is very different. New chassis, interior, engine, etc.
