  1. My latest creation is a mod of the recently released set 10290: Pickup Truck. It was completely rebuilt to look mostly the same, but lowered as far as possible. It seems like a simple mod, but was a bit of a challenge. I like the original grill a lot, but wanted one based on a real truck. I was going for a 1955 Ford at first, thinking I could re-use the 1x2 curved slope with printed V8 logo in the center, but then decided on a late 1940s, early 1950s Chevrolet version. Besides that, the bed was shortened a stud, running boards were 'painted' to match, studs eliminated, different shifter, relocated fuel door, passenger mirror removed, full wood bed, changed door handle, and incorporated tail lights. I was going for a more extreme hot rod originally, but really like this clean look. Maybe in the future I'll do a drag version with big engine.
  2. Excellent work. You've been published: https://thelegocarblog.com/
  3. I haven't been able to think of a good design yet for the Technic Challenge, so I bought a 10220 VW T1 Camper Van model recently to rebuild it as a truck that I've been thinking about for a few months now. It's not too exciting, but it was a fun build. I spent the last few nights putting it together.
  4. Here's a custom semi-truck with lowboy trailer, a heavy construction equipment transporter, inspired by classic Model Team sets 5580, 5590, and 5591, and built in the style of Highway Pickup, Lego Creator set 7347. The truck has functional steering (the spare tire is actually the steering wheel, similar to Model Team 5580) and opening doors. The trailer detaches and has ramps, just like the real thing, and also has extenders on each side to widen the trailer for wider loads. I actually had the idea to build this for last year's Triple Build Contest. But I didn't have the time, nor the bricks, to get it done. I probably ended up with over 500 pieces each anyway, so I probably wouldn't have qualified. Either way, no big deal. It was a fun build and I'm happy with the result. Hope you enjoy. Also, I'm not sure how much interest there would be, but this is my 4th Cuusoo project: lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/62214 Here's my flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/drdesignz/?details=1 Does anybody know how to select different sizes, like you could previously? I spent forever trying to figure out how to find the 640 pixels wide version of my pictures, to be able to link them here like I've always done before. I had to figure out another method instead, since I couldn't figure out how to do it with Ipernity either and MOC Pages only allows nine images (plus the quality is degraded considerably). I don't know what's been happening with flickr, but it's turning into garbage. I hate it so much. Also, it looks like they're forcing me to log in with a Yahoo account, which I don't have, instead of Google. I don't know if I'm going to keep posting there. The only reason I've stuck around since the changes nearly a year ago is because of all the AFOLs there. The community is huge. I used to spend at least a little bit of time every day there. Now it might be once a month, if that. It sucks.
  5. Here's a project I've wanted to do for a long time. It's a modern redesign of the classic Model Team set Highway Rig (5580). It was released in 1986 and was the biggest of the three original sets in the Model Team series. The thirty year anniversary is coming up soon and I think this would be a fantastic new model based on the original. Unfortunately, however, it would be against Cuusoo's rules to submit it. Practically every AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) will remember the original set. Many of them either had it or wanted it.

    Lego Classic Space Monorail

The black motor is actually a regular motor covered in plasti-dip, a rubber coating that can peal off later.

    Lego Classic Space Monorail

The entire layout has been taken down. But I've bought more track and built three more monorails, all ready to go now for Brickfair An M:Tron version, built entirely with only the original M:Tron pieces from 1990-91 on a Airport Shuttle chassis, a Blacktron version, built entirely with only the original Blacktron I pieces from 1987-1988 on a Unitron monorail chassis, and a Space Police I version, completing the second generation space themes, also built entirely with only the original pieces from 1989 on a Futuron monorail chassis.

    [MOC] Legoland Movie Theater

There are on a cycle of different patterns in the video. I can also show just one of the patterns, or leave them all on continuously, as well as adjust the brightness, with a remote control. These are ordinary, cheap Christmas lights. I was going to have some custom lighting made with better patterns. But it would have cost twenty, thirty, who-knows-how-much more than what I have here.

    [MOC] Legoland Movie Theater

Thank you all for the kind words. Thanks. It has a simple interior, yes. Just a foyer leading up to four more doors with large Lego Movie posters on each side, all lit up. It looks a lot blue-er than I expected it to. I thought it looked not-so-great in the pictures, but one of them above includes one. Here's a better view though: The majority of the interior is a web of wiring, batteries, and a strong internal structural Technic frame. There are also two compartments, one on each side like so: This is also where I keep a couple bicycles, for when this gets displayed in Ashland later this year. For Brickfair, they will not be included.
  17. This is a redesigned, custom version of Creator Beetle (10252), which I've wanted to do since it came out. A lot of people complained, saying the Lego model looked more like a Citroen 2CV. I personally think it's a great model, with all its details. I have nothing against it. That said, I do think the shaping could look more a little more like the real thing and I wanted to give it a shot. It's quite the challenge, with all its curves. There are only so many dark azure pieces to work with. I figured lowering it as much as possible would also add to that difficulty (not to mention it's hilarious). It took a lot of time and figuring out, but this is the result, which I'm mostly happy with, considering what I had to work with, the goal, and the comically large new fender pieces. All chrome is original Lego, except the wheels. They're real Lego wheels, chromed by another company (randomly found browsing Bricklink one day). The 8-ball shifter knob is from Killer Croc Tail-Gator (70907), the shifter stick from Frightening Knight (CMF s15), the tinted windshielf from Mini Cooper (10242), and the "love" tile on the dash is from the Yellow Submarine (21306). These pieces are unique to those sets and relatively recently produced for the first time, along with many of the Beetle's dark azure parts. Meaning this car couldn't have been built at all a couple years ago.

    [MOC] Modular: Town Hardware

This is probably my favorite modular I've ever seen. I've seen a lot. I'd never leave, if I was a minifigure.
  19. This is my first Cuusoo submission, a fully detailed, functional, remote controlled, large scale, classic American hot rod. Includes a detailed V8 engine. The supercharger is a Lego E-motor, which actually turns the engine. The "transmission" is also functional. The body is 16 studs wide, not including the fenders, door handles, mirrors, etc. The whole car is about 20 inches long. I'm not sure how many studs that translates to. Suicide doors open by turning the engine and shifting gears. The trunk opens manually to access the battery box, which can easily be removed to replace the batteries. The interior is fully detailed. I photoshopped a few gauges in this image: Underside of the car: Interior view of the mechanics: Here you can see how the doors open, simple and effective: Here I photoshopped a license plate: The design, building, and buying of parts has taken me about a half a year to complete. Ideas changed over time, and eventually I ended up with what you see here. It is meant to be a generic design, but it does share some resemblance with a commonly customized 1932 Ford roadster. Yellow seemed to be the best color for a Lego hot rod and I am quite happy with the result. I originally intended to build a fully remote controlled car, that could be driven. But I started on this project long before I became aware of Lego's new servo and decided on other remote control Power Functions. I tried to make the car as functional as possible. I chose a convertible version instead of a coupe, so that the IR receiver would be clearly visible. Although not necessarily immediately noticeable, it's right there sticking up between the seats: It's more or less a body on frame design with a chassis similar to the real thing. A modern upgrade includes independent front and rear suspension. Of course, it includes a true V8, which is a must-have for an American hot rod, and it is supercharged too. For the supercharger I used a Lego E-motor, which turns the motor and connects to a functional gear box. The gear shifter has three positions, center being neutral. Forward opens the passenger door and pulling it back opens the driver's side door. Another Lego Power Function includes a second electric motor in the trunk, which turns an actuator that adjusts the rear suspension height. The battery box is also located in the rear, which is easily removed by opening the trunk (see flickr album). Another function includes the steering wheel, which does turn the front wheels. The steering geometry is not technically an Ackermann arrangement, but the result is very similar. The entire model is 100% Lego. There are no "illegal" connections, to the best of my knowledge. All pieces are currently or recently available, except for maybe the exhaust manifold (which I happened to get from the only somewhat large Lego hot rod model produced: set 5541). I originally had a full exhaust designed with more traditional headers, which you can also see here: With headers: I recently bought the new 4x4 crawler, which came with black wheels, so I thought I'd see what the car would look like with them: I also thought about a hood scoop instead of the triple air filter design: So there you go, a fully detailed, functional, large scale classic American hot rod, which has never been done before. The closest set previously produced by Lego was the Model Team hot rod 5541 produced in 1995 and re-released in 2004. The only other hot rods I'm familiar with are small scale cars, such as city themed hot rods (e.g.: 6561), and alternate designs for a couple Technic models (e.g.: 8070). This is the set I would love to see Lego produce and I have no doubt they can improve on my concept. I hope you've enjoyed viewing my model, and if you have I would certainly appreciate it if you supported the project. Thanks, and have fun! Here is a link to the Cuusoo page, by the way: lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/25263 It is currently in the approval stage, but I hope it will be up within the next few hours.
  20. I have a Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun. You could use one of those to measure speed. It's simple, accurate, and there's nothing to add to the vehicle.

I like it. Where did the gray spaceman come from? I take it the helmet is from classic castle, so it's old gray?

    Creator Expert 10252 Volkswagen Beetle

This is part number 24246 (Tile 1 x 1 Half Circle Extended), currently only in white found in five of the series 7 and 8 Mixels sets. I noticed another in light bluish gray on the front of the Beetle, the signal lights on the fenders.
