  1. I just let my cars and their boxes rest on the table... I'm trying to find some nice shelf with doors though, where my other sets could been added too. My goal is to keep the sets complete and displaying them rather than MOCing... Because I don't have any skills for MOC:s.
  2. This one? http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=5218-1 RRP 28$US year 2000, 147 parts, and today's price in Bricklink about 150 euro. Anyway it looks like a lovely add-on for 8466.
  3. I'm also little interested of 8466, I think it would look good with other supercars in my collection. It is interesting that there is pneumatics (towing system?) in some pictures, but it is not included to the original set, right? I also think that in technical mind 8466 is better model than 8458, but just for display 8458 should be amazing too (it is large!).
  4. That's an interesting idea to use studded pieces as bodypanels. It might be not the best option for this process, since the car you have used as a model, is quite rounded from its corners, which is difficult to replicate without studless body panels. However it looks very, very good. Great job. I would also love to see the functions.
  5. I bought it, now I need to find those seven cables what Dluders mentioned, thanks for the help. I'm going to build a heli first anyway and displaying it for a while, so I would have some time to hunt the right cables. Can not wait to get this beaty at home. :) I'm waiting also 8448 and 8157, they are on they way... And I just recieved 8421. Damn Bricklink, it is too easy to waste your money!
  6. Thanks Dluders! That's what I'm probably going to do. All complete sets are way more expensive than this incomplete one. I own the older 8094, but 8485 seems to be better in many ways. More pieces (546 vs 1079), and 9V converter for using it without batteries (unusual in lego products!). I'm surprised that there's only two reviews in the Brickset from the 8485, while the older 8094 seemed to be more common and popular. It might be due that it was much(?) cheaper in it's days than 8485.
  7. I'm quite interested of this set, and noticed that someone is selling used set in Bricklink under 80 euro. Unfortunately it does not include the flex cables, so no chance to build a dino. However there is few sellers who are selling Flex system elements (5118)set in about 20 euro. My problem is, that I can not find information of what cable length and how many were used in a dino. If I buy one 5118 cable set, is it enough? If I have to buy several cable set, it will quickly increase the cost. I prefer a helicopter from these two models, so I might buy the set just for that anyway. But it would be nice if there's a possible dino-option too. :)
  8. Very nice truck! Looks fun to drive around. Photos are fine, stop whining. :)
  9. You have modeled the front very well, the shape is exactly as in real Valmet's (or nowadays Valtra's). And yes the front axle has "always" been further back in Valmets/Valtras if you compared it to the other tractors. Rear wheels could be a little bit wider for having the model more realistic look. But then probably power puller/8466 wheels are needed to do that, since there is not many larger wheels than those you have used (8297 wheels?). Btw. that model remins me of -96 6400 Valmet which was in the school farm were I've studied. :) it was with front lifter (bucket) though.
  10. You may "only" have three sets, but you have pick them wise. RC-stuff from 8043, XL-motor from 8258 and wheels from 8297 are all good for mocing, incl. all the other parts. You can build many things from those three sets. And your first MOC looks great! Good luck!
  11. Nice, there is really big difference in before and after pics. Don't know are they selling that stuff in Finland though.
  12. Hi, As many of you are probably aware, 8880 white parts are easily getting yellow by UV-light. Mine too, since the set has been in a direct daylight for several years. I find decent solution for turnging yellowed parts from this set to original white (well, at least close) by using chlorine. I bought this chlorine: Then I empty it in the large container, end throw all the white parts there, including very badly yellowed white rims. I left them there for ~ 20 hr, after that flush under water and indeed, they are now whiter than before. They are not completely white but it might be possible to white the parts perfectly by leave them in the chlorine for longer time. I'm satisfied for this result and going to put the car together now, but perhaps somebody else could try it. It doesn't damage parts in any way.
  13. Ohh you are all saying blades not wings, in Finnish we usually call them "siivet" and direct translation for that is "wings". In English calling them blades is must better thought.
  14. Very nice implement! Ploughs are not the easiest thing to build with lego. Maybe you could add one or two pair of wings more, to make it look even more realistic. Could you make a video to show functions?
  15. One of the best MOCs I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing it! Nice ending for the year 2011. And because the operation is so realistic, I would build it in a bigger scale (just a thought), and used it for demo purpose in some construction exhibition. it would be great to attach ie. this system to it: http://www.topcon-positioning.eu/30/Machine_Control/Excavator/46/528/3D%20GPS/product_details.html Put the GPS in a demo mode, and show to the customers how it works. Well, just a wild idea, but it would be cabable for doing it.
  16. It is handy in a fuel station. E: I took them both away, looks better without
  17. I saw this set yesterday in a local market for 89 €, and decided to give it a shot. I finished it today, and I must say it's much better than I expected! It looks super cool, and I actually like the motorized functions a lot. I agree with some that pole reverser would been nice, but the battery box switch gets the job done. I still might add pole reverser later. + eye candy + it is big! + nice functions and they work very well + smooth propulsion + very good building experience, specially in the end when adding the body panels, and see how it shapes + nice stickers, not too noticeable since they are red with relatively small prints - connections of few body panels are a bit flimsy - rear look is not perfect due the pf battery box, but doesn't mind me much I'm glad that I bought it, and will recommend it to anyone who is considering to buy. At least for under 100 €. By the way in the same market was the unimog too, with 189 € price tag. Comparing to that 89 € from 8070 wasn't not bad at all I think. Edit: Pole reverser added, improves operation tremendously
  18. Wow, what an amazing moc! You are a pro builder.
  19. And your's is misb, which is great. :) Unfortunately i don't have deep pocket's so mine will be used (in a great condition though). Long wait until it arrives... but I have 8880, 8868, 8297 and 8043 in parts just waiting to get build, so my hands will be busy during waiting. :D
  20. Thanks to everyone who comment, special thanks goes to allanp, there was some really good information of these two sets. So it would be reasonable to pick 8258 first now it's still available, and because 8421 is already too expensive for misb and used sets will be there for a long time. That's how it should go, but... I have made the decision, am going to buy used 8421. For me it seems that it have just a bit more "wow-factor" than in 8258. And I guess you all know the feeling, when you just have to get some specific set. I'm probably losing opportunity to buy 8258 in new, but I have no big problems to buy second hand sets. I will buy it in some point, wheter it is new or used. Hmm why not? If I have, let's say 150 € to use, of course I'm comparing the prices of sets wheter they are new or used. New is new, but in some cases 150 € is a better deal from used set than from new, if the set is rare and you want it really bad. But I kind of understand your point here, so no offence.
  21. Hi, I am struggling between these sets, just can not decide which one to buy... They are both awesome models. 8258 is still available for ~150 euros as new, and 8421 as second handed from bricklink ~150 e in good condition incl. instructions and box. There is also new misbs but they are unfortunately out of my budget. So far I have these pros and cons: 8258: + looks great + big + still available in reasonable price + xl-motor (i would like to have one) + complex design + interesting gearbox + good source of parts - no pneumatics - can't really lift (that's what i read?) - can't operate the whole boom via gearbox 8421: + looks also great (even more massive than 8258) + big too + good source of parts and it's complex too + pneumatics + RC-motor (could I use only one in rc-car if I build one, or do I need two?) + playable value seems to be a bit higher (better functions) - have to buy second handed - pneumatic is not strong enough for the boom(?) - boom doesn't hold up(?) - manual turning for the crane 8421 feels a bit more appeal to me at the moment, but it is very hard to made decision. I would love to have them both of course but it is not possible this time. Unimog is also very interesting, but I guess it will be available still 1-2 year so don't have to buy it yet. Which one do you prefer? Would you buy used 8421 from Bricklink? I would also love to see a photo, where these two models are side by side so I could see their actual difference in size. Help me please. :)
  22. I personally think that lights are a bit too close to each other, and would look better in one pair only. Other than that, the car looks outstanding!
