Hoke looked up from sharpening Vintul, slid the stone up the blade again, and looked back down at his work.

OOC - I'd appreciate it if the romance novel soft-core porn roleplaying was done outside of a thread I have to be involved in. No offense intended, but it's annoying.

Skrall awoke, he had listened intently to the two gentlemen who seemed to be good friends with Jess. "Hmm... I'll have to ask her later." he had thought to himself. After that he had layed down for some sleep and had been awaken by the incessant Haldor, singing the praises of his elven love. Skrall banished the last remaining fragments of his dream, that voice so familiar but why? He picked up his satchel and addressed the party, "Haldor I can understand yer wantin' to dote upon every whim of yer beloved, but we're here to take out this Gwen or whatever her name is, not go shoppin'. Hans, right, we'll accompany one you to meet with one of these rebel groups. Mr. Ablesword, I think we'll be needin' some fine speeches from ya pretty soon here and if that don't work we'll let Ms. Hightribe intill some fear into 'em with that menacin' blade of hers."

OOC: Sorry all, I had planned on us starting up today instead of yesterday and had already made RL plans, Skrall is all good to go now.

"Follow me."

The party treks through secret passages until they come to a castle, ruined, but still functional. Hans tells them to wait outside, dips indoors, and then retrieves them a few minutes later. They walk in and are greeted by a troop of Pongcanae.

Hans walks cooly through the creatures as they working, training, fencing, building. The animals sneer at the heroes as the walk through the halls.

"Be careful, they'll eat you," Hans half jokes. He sneers right back at them. "Ya just gotta prove your worth, that's all. And that's what we're doing today."

The heroes arrive at the center of the castle and enter a small room, where a Pongcanis unlike many of the others sits. He is clearly the leader.

"Hello. My name is Vonnetate. These are my people, and this is my castle." He walks towards the heroes. "Hans has told me you are here to help. I am skeptical. You will forgive me, but heroes and my species do not have a good past. I understand, my species is... at a... misunderstanding with the others. We have a hunger that you all satisfy, but we are not strangers to honor and worth."

"For that purpose, I would like to over-throw the government here. They are corrupt. They are evil. They oppress us. We do not accept that. Hans says you are here to help, but I do not know you. Hans does not know most of you. I need to know that you are trustworthy, and more importantly, that you are worth keeping around. If you are not good fighters, it may be more beneficial to feed you to my warriors." Vonnetate half laughs.

"Hans says that you are uniting the rebel groups. I do not like the others, but I will fight with them. Hans has promised to mediate, and alongside you, I will be a general. I know the ways of war. The other leaders are weak. Fredrick of the humans does not know how to fight, and I do not trust him to go through with it. Samuel of the humans and Haddock of the Orcs are so at odds with each other that they are unable to think ahead."

"I am willing to offer you some troops. The flat number of troops that I will give you is 25. However, if you complete a task for me, I would be willing to offer you more. A caravan is passing through this way, full of supplies and reinforcements. If you stop it, I would be very willing to give you more troops. For every 6 of their troops you kill, I will offer 2 more troops. The army is large, and I can not expect you to kill them all, as they will continue to come in waves. So I will give you this."

"A Phoenix Smoke is useless to us normally, since we fight until the end, but when fighting large number of enemies, it is useful. It allows you to flee, but also gain experience from the fight, even in the case that you are KO'd during the fight. However, if whoever is carrying the Phoenix Smoke is KO'd... you may be out of luck. The enemies will keep coming. If you die in combat, I will salute you. Remember, for every 6 of them you kill, I will give you 2 additional troops. Do you accept the offer?"

"I think we'd better, but it's up to you Ogre. He's giving us 25 troops either way, but the more troops, the better. And I don't know how he'd feel if you said no..." Hans', who normally was cool and collected to the point where he didn't look like he cared, was eyeing the surrounding Pongcanae with discomfort.

"And of course I am not rude. If you have any questions about me, my troops, the other rebels, the city, McColt, my opinion on which way you'd best taste, anything along those lines, please feel free to ask."

"I say we attack the supply train. Blohdhurm here is hungry for some blood... And besides, we need as many troops as we can get," Jess proclaims, a glint in her eye.

Yes, I am aware that people don't normally eat each other's faces as much as Haldor and Jess do. But, as you said, this is definitely the Honey Moon phase. It'll most likely pass soon.

Skrall inclines his head toward the Pongcanis leader, "You are not alone my friend, my people have always been at odds with the higher races due to our propensity fer violence and passion, but I have found that they are not all evil and some even see us as equals. Perhaps with yer aid, you and yer people will gain the trust and admiration of those who consider ya the lesser beats. We will gladly accept this side mission, but I have one question fer you before I confer with my companions. You say this troop is large that we are to attack, but if I may be so bold, who exactly are we to be raiding? Are they allies of this corrupt government or be they simply an outlying faction that swears allegiance to no one?" Turning to his companions, Skrall inquires of Hans "What think you chap, do we have enough time fer this detour?"

"We have the time, and doing what the Rebels ask is fairly important..."

"Thinking like a general. Good. I like this one. What is your name human? To address your questions, kill all of them, capture none. I have chosen the place, I will have someone guide you there when it is time. They will be strung out, passing through a pass. Your words are sometimes stupid - passing through a pass. The pass is narrow, so they should not be able to all be together. 6 of them will be added each round."

The heroes must also decide who will carry the Phoenix Smoke. Remember, if the hero carrying it is KO'd and not revived, the heroes will fail and Vonnetate will give them NO troops.

Turning to the furry leader, Jess asked with a sweet smile,"would it be possible to receive one extra soldier per three of their soldiers we kill? It's the same rate you've got for us currently."

"Ha! You think you have the right to make requests of me Rogue?! Elf?! HA! HAHAHAHA! Have someone with more honor ask me, and perhaps we will be able to bargain. Do not think just because the human cleric, who is the weakest of you heroes, a magic healer, ha, drools over you that I will do the same."

"Good Vonnetate, our goals converge and surely you can see more of your fearless warriors would be beneficial in destroying your true enemy. With those last few words, Hoke rips Vintul from it's sheath and hoists it high. A mighty gust of roaring air leaps from the bare blade as the eagerness for battle overcomes Hoke.

Skrall pops the lid to a jar of smelling salts and consumes the contents. Grimacing at the taste he remarks, "I vote that either Tensi, Hoke, or myself should carry the smoke contraption as we are the ones most likely to last the longest in a drawn out battle, though should Tensi carry it, I would request that she give one of her 2 Phoenix Essences to the Mr. Ablesword for the time being, in the event it becomes necessary to revive her and I am also put out of commission."

"I'll cut you a bargain. Either 1 extra for every 4 you kill, or 2 for every 6. If you fall early, that will help you, and if not, it won't. Your choice heroes, pick now."

"We'll take ya up on yer offer my good fella 1 for every 4 we eliminate. I've been through plenty of ambushes in my life, and things rarely go accordin' to plan. If everyone is ready, let us head off. Hans will ya be accompanyin' us, the more the merrier as they always say." Skrall picks up the Pheonix Smoke and tosses his own Pheonix Essence over to Hoke Ablesword. "Hold on to this fer me if ya wouldn't mind young chap."

Tesni had remained silent throughout (because Pepper was asleep!) there was a time and a place to be intimidating and now and here was not it.

She nodded to Skrall as they left, "It is better for me to simply fight, no risk of the item being lost to use." She placed a hand on Cysgodion's hilt "We will take care of those soldiers, although I am concerned of their alliegences."

It's just the 'honeymoon phase' (for want of a better phrase), and will settle down soon, but not stop completely.

Jess will hopefuly keep her clothes on in the prescence of others.

Oh and putting the relationship through tribulations is exactly the idea for later. It is the true way to test their bond, see how they cope when faced with bad situations. I trust Wren will ensure a few of those come our way.

"What sort of enemies are we facing? Grunts? Or something tougher?"

Haldor restlessly handles his metal rod, he didn't like the look of these rebels, but it seemed they were the lesser of the two evils. He holds Jess close to calm himself.

"Fools, cowardly fools. Jess has far more honour than them, getting others to do their dirty work. And I'm not the weakest one, I'm tougher than Dyric! ()

Tesni clasped Cysgodion and surveyed her team mates. She had quested before with Jess and only recently returned from leading Hoke and Haldor to victory in a quest with many trials and strong foes, with Hoke having already fought hard alongside her within the Porthair Cavern.

Dyric and Skrall were new to her, she had seen them at the hall and heard tell of their exploits. Skrall, it was rumoured, had failed in his quest in the employ of the City Guard, but scuttlebutt would have it that the Wolfgang left them be, so something was going on there... As for Dyric, he had fought beside Skrall, surely a fighter who could not pull his weight would have been called out by their party leader.

Well, those two would have ample chance to demonstrate their skills soon.

"To battle then?" Tesni asked, lifting her unfamiliar shield. It would certainly be of use, but it was a strange sensation to have something strapped to her usually free arm.

"Aye, to battle. Though I request that Jess goes behind me, so I can block the shots, just so long that she is safe. I'd rather die that let Jess get hurt, because I love her."

Haldor pulls Jess into an embrace, and kisses her.

"I'll take the hits Jess, I'm the 'weakest' afteral, so I might as well act as your shield."

The heroes make their way to the ambush, and, sure enough, the caravan of troops and supplies are travelling through a pass. Hans lunges out and the heores follow.

"Rebels! Kill them!" shouts a City Guard, and the battle is on.

RULES: If the person with a Phoenix Essence is downed and not revived, you will fail and receive no troops. You will receive 1 extra troop for every four of their troops you kill. AFTER every round of combat, the enemy will receive six more troops (1 Caravan Captain and 5 Caravan Soldiers). Bombs, Mage's magic bursts... anything that targets "ALL ENEMIES" may only target 6. If you use something like this, please indicate how you who you would like to use it on in your original attack. EXAMPLE: I will attack person A, but if I get a magic burst, it should hit people A, B, C, D, E, and L. Phoenix Smoke will allow you to exit and gain XP from the battle, even in the case that you were KO'd, so fight until the last man (though again, be careful). Finally, you will also leave with any thing that was dropped before the Phoenix Smoke was used.
