MonkeyBosun Posted September 19, 2006 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=193785 I kind of like it....It might be a bit to thin for its length in the end, but it doesnt look too bad I think. Its big, I think its claimed to be a true 74 gun 3rd rater, and it uses standard lego hulls, interesting at least.
Bonaparte Posted September 19, 2006 I don't think I have seen this ship yet. But I have been wrong before (right Mr. Tiber?). Its a bit brown to my tast but with some modifications it would be a very nice ship. It needs some yellow or white. I would be happy to do the modifications if the owner would donate it to me X-D . And it needs a pirate crew. There are some other nice ships the brickshelf folder of its creator
MonkeyBosun Posted September 19, 2006 I found the MOC page that goes with that ship, also explains why the ship is brown. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/20088 I think the brown fits it quite well, some of the ships that I have seen and would liketo make if I couldare unpainted brown as well. Mister Phes Posted September 19, 2006 I recognise that wallpaper in the background! He's the creator of the Soleil Royal - which is very easy to tell after visiting his MOCpages. As for the Le Superbe this is the first I've seen of it. So I'll probably change the name of this thread to "Le Superbe" after everyone has had a good luck. This is just in case I've forgotten about it being posted elsewhere.
El Bucanero Posted September 19, 2006 I don't think I have seen this ship yet. There are some other nice ships the brickshelf folder of its creator No yar not wrong lad X-D I already saw it berfore BTW, on mocpages, it is a nice progress. and about the sentence I marked, isn't the ship completly brown? I asume you mean this: I is a bit too brown to my taste. *pirate* Arrrr
Mister Phes Posted September 19, 2006 The builder needs to break up the monotomy of the brown somehow... That's also a problem when trying to make a LEGO ship look authentic - they just look too bland.
Captain Ironhook Posted September 21, 2006 Aye, another over big ship and perhaps she is too big but I do not know this yet. Maybe this Moc is incompleted because the inventor has not added sails yet so maybe he will add other decorations to make the browness of the ship look less. Anyway, I have invited the creator to our discussion via a message on his MOC-page. Lets see if he reads it and joins us here ...
Mister Phes Posted September 21, 2006 I thought about doing this too, I just hope we don't get in trouble for spamming. But if we don't I think its a good way we can get the attention of some of these MOC creators. I know everytime one of my MOCpages gets a comment I also get an Email letting me know I have one. So this should increase the chances of him reading it. Of course he might not be pleased that we dropped a link in his comments, but on the other hand he might be thrilled to know of a forum like this. We shall see... Berry Syedow Posted September 23, 2006 See, the thing is, pirate ships must have a proper ratio of width to height or they begin to look silly or awkward. The largest LEGO ship hull can only be heightened so much. The sides just shouldn
Mister Phes Posted September 23, 2006 *begins waving his naughty finger at the builder* I'm sure that builder will be quite impressed if he ever finds his way to this thread! We must also bare in mind that every ship doesn't have to look accurate and sometimes builders should be granted the creative freedom to stretch reality. El Bucanero Posted September 23, 2006 It is just such a bloody pity that there aren't very much and good picture of the last version, only dark pictures and pictures took out of a strange position...
Mister Phes Posted September 23, 2006 Mr Tiber, what do you mean by "last version"? How many versions of this MOC are there?
El Bucanero Posted September 24, 2006 With last version I mean, the most completed version Let's say this is the first version and this the last version The last is more completed than the first...
Evil Willy Posted September 24, 2006 This man seems to like to build huge ships on small hulls. Quite nice but I think it might be too much.

Alright, alright. *retracts naughty finger* Irregularly proportioned ship sides on pirate ships disgruntle me. Everything else is great. He just needed to widen that ship. MonkeyBosun Posted September 24, 2006 Irregularly proportioned ship sides on pirate ships disgruntle me. Everything else is great. He just needed to widen that ship. I agree, the width of the ship is the biggest issue. some widening is needed, but I think that pre-fab hulls are perfectly capable of producing a fine large ship, a brick built hull is not needed. Sure wish I could do that.
El Bucanero Posted September 25, 2006 IMO, the only things he should change, are the fore castle, and the bow itself... it seems very strange to me that it suddenly gets that low, headrails could do the job..
tedbeard Posted September 25, 2006 Perhaps I have not yet noticed it on other ships but I really find the curve effect achieved with the line and the gunports really effective. Gives it a nice impression without actually having to build at an angle. Definately going to have to use that technique.
Armada Posted October 6, 2006 Hello to all! it seems my ship has drawn some attention off MOC pages.. thanks. i agree the pics are terrible, but i can tell you this, up close this ship has become a masterpiece on my shelf.. and im not boasting about it anymore than i should.. i have multiply times contemplated the thought of selling it on ebay to raise money for a new ship.. but i just cant let it go. many of you have complained that it may be too tall and too narrow.. but this ship looks great almost like it could rip through the water..each section of the ship can be taken apart to operate completely.. using technic pins to put the ship back together.. the smooth tan lines create the shape of the fast pace hull... brown bricks are used throughout.. bc wood is brown not gray or any other color that builders sometimes use.. the use of brown bricks to create the mast poles, create a better authenticity to the ship rather than the pre-made black masts. i choose this ship to be built on Lego boat hulls bc it becomes even more difficult of a build.. one has to try to create a ship on a tight hull to understand the complexity. i feel i did a great job on it. it
Mister Phes Posted October 6, 2006 Greetings Armada! It is an honour to have you amongst us as well always appreciate it when a MOC builder takes the time to post in a thread about his (very rarely her) MOC. Maybe the comments here were overly critical but that tends to be the case when the MOCer isn't present. The important thing is if you were happy with the end result then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. But since this is a discussion forum the users just shared their thoughts...
