Greetings from Japan

Recommended Posts

Warm greetings to you all from Japan.

I have recently returned to building with Legos after many many years of being in a Dark Age.

At present I am trying to complete the Swamp Police series from last year. I am very close but some sets are proving difficult to get as we did not get every set for this line.

I look forward to seeing everyone's creations and opinions!

宜しくお願いします!

Well if you are coming to Japan for Legos you may be disappointed. I would go to brickset and see if the set you want was even released in Japan at all. If it was then the best bet to get it is to find a click brick shop or a very large Yamada Denki or Bic Camera and see if they are carrying the set you want.

Sets released specifically for the Japan market seem limited to children just getting out of Duplo age. Like this set here: http://brickset.com/...asic-Red-Bucket

Those sets sell for substantially less here in their intended market than elsewhere. Ive seen US Amazon for the above bucket reach a hundred dollars. In japan you can usually get it for 30 or less if you get lucky with a sale.

Sets that appear to be exclusive to Japan include:

Hi Japanbuilder, any place in Osaka area where I can buy 2nd hand/used Lego, as well as Pick a brick? Going there this April. Thanks!

Welcome Japanbuilder! I'm not Japanese, but I'm a permanent resident. I've managed to build up a collection that is, frankly, way too big. I pretty much stick to new sets now, but for old sets, Yahoo Auction randomly has old sets often at a reasonable price. And of course, Bricklink! You should be able to get your sets there for a reasonable price. Not cheap though. I used to buy my big sets there, like the modular houses.

For you folks visiting Japan, in my experience, Bic Camera has a much better selection than Yamada Denki, and is usually priced close to Amazon's rates. As well, the unofficial Lego Store here is Click Brick. There is one in most major prefectures: http://clickbrick.info (sorry, Japanese only). As well, the first official Lego shop just opened in Roppongi Hills in Tokyo.

I rarely see used Lego at shops here, but then again, I gave up on that years ago. There are collectable second hand toy shops here and there, and you'll know them by the loads of open toys in the window. The main market for that is through Yahoo Auction, the Japanese E-Bay (http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/search?auccat=25464&tab_ex=commerce&ei=utf-8&aq=-1&oq=&sc_i=&p=レゴ&x=0&y=0)

Have fun in Japan!

Thanks for the welcome!

Sadly, I moved house a few years back and am in an area with no Bic Camera so I have to settle for Yamada Denki which has a very poor selection but decent prices when something is on offer. I have also long since discarded buying used here, nothing LEGO and used is to be seen. On occasion Ill head out to Gotenba for the Click Brick but their prices are no better than Yamada Denki.

Despite the challenges of building in Japan I still have promised myself to get as much LEGO as I can this year! I call it returnee syndrome lol. I had not touched LEGO since I was a child. Forgot how cool they are!

P.S. I managed to complete my Swamp Police series! Took some time and 2 sets were really pricey but it comes with the territory of collecting here.

Welcome to the forums, your really building us up *excuse the pun*

heh heh Thanks! for the welcome!! And yah I chose and odd name. Mostly to describe my location and hobby all in one! Oo Though looking at it more closely it could've put a bit more thought into it heh heh.
