NON VEHICLE CONTEST :sweet:

YES!
i'm not sure i will be able to participate, but i love the idea.
These kind of models really are underrepresented in the LEGO lineup and i feel in the MOCs as well.

As I recall there were discussions about an animal contest. Maybe now is the time.

Animal contest will fit the non-vehicle contest.

The thing I am contemplating is making two categories:

  • Animal
  • Non-animal (or non biological)

I think that's a good idea, to make this two separate contests (maybe with at least one vehicle in between to prevent burnout).

I was not thinking about two different contests, but two different categories within this contest.

We can do two different contests, but I am afraid that an animal contest won't generate too much interest.

Maybe this one should be a "non-vehicle and non-animal" contest.

Actually, I think the animal theme is a good idea, not too festive though, but I think in that case we should go all in with it and not allow a non-animal category as well otherwise entries will be incomparable.

If there's a Technic Animal contest, is Pokemon allowed?

I can see two options here:

1) No fictional animals or animal-like things allowed, only real ones. Limiting, yes, but quite easy to decide if an entry qualifies or not.

2) Fictional animals or animal-like things are allowed. Deciding what qualifies is harder, but perhaps not impossible - though I can see lots of nitpicking and rules-lawyering ahead if this option is chosen.

Personally I'd perhaps lean towards option 1) as it would make people concentrate on the simulation of biomechanics instead of finding the wackiest looking fictional animals, but I can see the appeal of option 2) as it might draw more entries to the contest.

Interesting aspects, but option 2 will be better I guess. Also it would allow cool mythical creatures like Dragons or Gryphons :-)

I think 1 is too niche.
