There is nothing preventing us from doing it again, but we have indeed done this before. But the concept is definitely interesting enough to do it again.

I visited local amusement park just the other day and dreamed myself building some of those fancy ride machines. Somehow they feel like being at the core of what Technic should be, lots of mechanical engineering doing spectacular moves while accomplishing nothing except being fun.

I want a contest about household appliances. Something like a PF standing fan.

Maybe if power tools (handheld and tabletop) should also be included?

That was basically my idea (more or less) for TC2 (the first contest I hosted) but we still haven't done this

My idea was a non-vehicle contest.

That's a hugely broad topic so it would be really hard to judge. Beside the aforementioned household appliances and power tools, here's few examples of non-vehicle things that I thought of while typing this include: non-mobile cranes, amusement park rides, GBC, kinetic sculptures, animal models, gym equipment, some types of construction equipment and so on.

Congratulations of 100 page of this topic.
About contest idea, I still want one-set alternative contest.

Min 100$ price set, can't add any other thing like string or rubber band which is not included in selected set.(Maybe we can limit to spare part too) No other rule.

I like the idea of a non-vehicle contest. Vintage technic sets used to have machines a b/c models. But I agree we might need to define where said machine would be used, or what size of machine you’re talking about. Eg something that you would use at home … so for example, a hand drill, a washing machine, an exercise machine, a food processor

The only problem with defining a completion by price is how you define that price. Or are you talking about taking a set from TLG and then making another set from it? We did this with the C-model contest as it was called

What if we did a battle-bot contest? Like a contest with limits on LxWxH dimension, but besides that I don't know what this contest would actually look like. (I don't know if this has been done already, but I noticed you mentioned it at the beginning of this topic @Jim

Also, side note, but what do you think about doing a collaborative contest? Like where we have a couple people working together to build one thing. For the most part I think everyone would have to collaborate digitally, but maybe one of the participants could build the design and submit it. :classic: I think everyone here is more than capable of building their own design individually, but when they have a time crunch and other more important life responsibilities a partner might be helpful.

Battlebots are cool but participants would have to get physically together in the same place to do the battles to determine the winner, otherwise there's not much point in building a battlebot. Needless to say, this isn't practical to arrange for an international community like Eurobricks.

This definitely feels like official set releases.

- Any news on the 2024 sets?

[information is published]

Battle Bots have been done before too

I know how you feel @Jim you’ve literally only just posted a competition and already people are putting together suggestions for the next. 🤣

P.S. I’d still like to see a “great egg race” type competition 🤣

Contest Idea: Build something from spare pieces of several sets. Bricklink has a list of spare parts for all sets. Must post inventory for cross check.

As we may all know there are no long liftarms or connectors among spare parts. This idea is truly diabolical lol.

Is spare piece after build B model is allowed? Than we can get some large parts.

Also no wheels or tyres, no long axles, no turntables, no gears (except perhaps few of the smallest), no electronics, no pneumatics and so on. I don't think this limitation would allow for very interesting builds.

There are some sets with A-model spares but I'm not sure if you'd get more than 10-15 odd pieces out of it.  I know 8448 has #6 red connectors "spare" because the B-model needs them.  I believe 7347 has a spare 2x4 technic plate, but I'm not seeing either of these recorded on Bricklink...

Might be able to weasel some good stuff out of the 80s-early 90s "universal" technic sets where even the A model only used some of the parts.  For example, what's the A-model of 8244?  If 8032's A-model is the tow truck, its spares include an 8L axle, and two useful kinds of axle-pin connector.

It's very quiet in here. I was expecting lots of questions about the next contest, with the Holidays coming up

My plan was to have something running in November, but by now, you know how most of my plans work out

But I do think we still need to start something to have you guys building during these cold winter months.
