Yes, you have to fact check things on this forum when newer users are involved who came out of their Dark Ages recently, especially considering the wild history of the Technic theme. There is zero consistency or a clear strategy being followed here. Maybe Chris Stamp should manage Technic after he brought City back from the dead by applying his winning Speed Champions formula to the theme.

Well, i did own the 42093 at some point. I had completely forgot that it had the same wheels front and back. My bad:).

Though arguably, the Speed Champions formula has already been applied to Technic, and that's the problem!

The mechanisms are more and more wacky and MOC-like, no bracing on the CV-joint :D

So we get out first front (ok, right front wheel) driven car in this scale.

I wonder whether connecting the other wheel would hurt the play experience that much..

I guess it's different for the RC use case. For off-roaders, most RC toys I've seen omit using a diff, just connect the two sides directly (a diff would just hurt off-roading). But I don't know about sports cars, there the diff might be necessary for high speeds.

Yeah, and I think at least the low-end sports car RCs I've seen are RWD without a diff. I think differentials are more important on the front axle, though, so I'm not sure how it would go

FWD without a diff is doable, but not great. My E Hatch tried it, and it was pretty sluggish at full lock.

Using the 'old' diff with the engine in front of the axle might fit the space, it'd be very full though, and the diff would entirely be hanging on the 2 CVs.  Realistically the engine should probably be 1-1.5 studs forward of the drivetrain and I think that'd require 3 stud offset to fit the cam pieces next to the diff.

You can have half the engine driven by one side and the other half by other side. Don't think anyone would notice

That could be a nice trick, but the main shaft needs support, which would have to be on both sides then, maybe if the engine was centered and supported by half beams, but even then the shaft could be wiggling and not running smooth..

Of course the headlights are plain white, as suspected. Gosh I hate these new animations compared to the full 360° ones that were actually useful.

The FWD is semi interesting, so I might grab this one. Not a day 1 buy but it does look fairly good. IMHO.

Ok, im now really curious how they did the 1WD drive system and will this crumble like bread crums. Like the 42242 front axle did;). 

And apparently the front axles are completely differently builded each side so the 2WD mod might be difficult without buying new pieces;). 

And lastly peoples are worried that 42242 turning radius is from the oil tanker. Hopefully this won't turn like oil tanker because of the 1WD drive system on the front and the CV joint. Because CV joints have much poorer turning radius than universal joints. 

But all in all the 42229 and 42242 are kind of feat of lego engineering because they are the first FWD and 4x4 small scale car eventhought the 42242 front axle apparently is held up only by prayers and hopes;). And the 42229 is only 1WD. it's still amazing that in 2026 we got the first small FWD cars while the execution/usefullness might be questionable:).
