Sounds plausible! Hopefully that’s correct, because if it’s any taller than 74cm, it won’t fit :snicker:

IKR, my spaciest shelf allows for like 65cm in height at best :pir-grin: Keep in mind tho – the measurements on the box seemingly include the stand, the ship itself without it gotta be a tad lower.

About that Barbossa minifigure... well the hat is not as horrible as I thought (still prefer the Fortnite version, but alright). A little bothered by the hair, though, but that might be nothing more than a matter of perspective. We'll see.

Also the design of the torso and the legs turns out to be absolutely perfect. The only real problem is in fact the colour. I'm glad they went for a grey coat, this time, that's definitely more accurate, but where are the other colours? Everything's grey. The yellow sash (which is in fact present on the legs, if you look closely) is grey, the pants are grey, the boots are grey, the neck is grey. No other figure has such a lame colouring. Messing up a Star Wars minifig is OK, new SW sets get released every other day, after all, but POTC... it's been 8 years since the last set, 14 years since our last Barbossa minifigure, and it's 380 dollars, they're asking for! We have every right to expect flawless minifigs (not to mention dual-molded legs, leg-printing, the number of minifigs and the minig selection itself).

To end on a more positive note, the ship itself is still very beautiful. Not perfect (especially the quarterdeck, many things missing there), but I'm really happy with it. I mean, look at that capstan, the anchors, the figurehead...!

I have a suspicion that a second "skeleton" faceprint for Barbossa might be hiding behind the new hairpiece. The set is based on the first movie after all & Barbossa can be spotted holding the Aztec coin in his hand on one of the pics – it'd be really cool for him to have that ghostly faceprint akin to Jack's 2011 Isla de Muerta figure, I hope that'd be the case indeed.

There's a sash, but I think it looks neither yellow nor grey – for me it appears to be brown. Fortnite version got the sash colour right, but that variant also has the bandana coloured in Dark Tan, whereas in the movies it's always been blue – you win some, you lose some :shrug_confused:

In Euros it's rumoured to be 330. "380" is the USD price tag for the USA market, at least that's what I've been seeing reported so far.

Even 330€ is, imo, too expensive for the part and minifig count.

Nowhere near as wild as almost $400 tho :pir-grin: €30 could be written off as Disney tax – $80 goes way over that. Then again, who knows how many pieces the stand itself took – I'd assume without the stand this is effectively a $250-280 set.

Great we finally see more (and better) pictures, but why we have to wait so long for an official reveal is beyond me. The sale starts if I'm not mistaken on 12 Sept!

Box: Strange there is no Disney logo on it, but maybe that explains the ships name or the lack of it; so who is the owner of the license? At least we see the figures on the back of the box now, but I can't remember a single Lego set which has minifigs (blockbuster movie characters!) not shown on the front of a set! Incomprehensible, who is the target audience, somebody who has never seen a Lego pirate ship before?

Minifigs: Not enough for the asked price, even if we would keep the selection only to those from the first movie we should get at last 16, so basically the whole important cast minus some random pirate figure as crew. Elizabeth's dress should have printed arms, Annamaria should have a special mold with a yellow scarf/bandana + hair, Barbossa's hat looks unfortunately totally wrong and his clothes should be very dark blue. Such a great character and he is the weakest figure of all! The others are fine.

Ship: Unnecessary display options, which not only inflates the piece count but also makes the proportions look wrong; or it's the wrong sails and the hull is accurate. The probable lack of interior for play is also a shame. I wonder how many pieces will be used for the gun mechansim on both sides.

It's a fantastic ship, the best looking up to date just the asked price is horrendous. Great the black hull pieces are back!

The price and the lack of an interior don't do the ship any favors for me, but I do like the shape of the separable upper hull above the waterline. I hope the support structure for the angled quarterdeck won't get in the way of retrofitting a larger interior, because it the main hull still looks like a good candidate for rebuilding with reddish brown hull parts and Barracuda colors.

Barbossa doesn't have a single blue element in his clothes apart from the bandana in the trilogy & specifically in the first movie. Dark Blue for his coat or vest, or anything else besides the bandana would be a total miss.

The silhouette does seem a bit squarish, I suspect the height of the main mast might be close to matching the length of the ship.

Ah yes, you're right. I've always had the impression it was some shade of very dark blue, but no. Shame Lego didn't make the characteristic dots on his vest and arms though.

I'm daydreaming but wouldn't it be cool to get a new cursed Barbossa in a new Isla de Muerta set, along with some of his crew members (who should have come with the Pearl...) like Bo'sun, Jacoby, Koehler and Twigg? Pintel and Ragetti could come in sets from Pirates 2 and 3 and... I know POTC will never get the Star Wars or Harry Potter treatment, but just imagine getting a new ship every year for the next five years (one per movie), plus one or two smaller sets. That would be awesome.

Anyway, I'm afraid we'll never get THE ULTIMATE Barbossa, which should be a mix of the Fortnite version (hat piece, yellow sash, waistcoat, arm-printing) and this new version (grey frock coat).

The murmur on the streets is that PotC franchise is about to receive the Lord of the Rings treatment by offering a big set each year from now on, with the Black Pearl essentially getting a D2C release now to test the waters of "is this fanbase still around?". If 10365 does well – this model of yearly PotC releases may absolutely be put into works.

That's really the worst possible treatment these themes could get :ugh:

Maybe a book nook or some brickheadz? Oh dear

Depends on the perspective really. I personally buy exclusively LEGO Pirates/PotC sets & stuff that goes along with em thematically, so I'm not even bothered as much by the price tag of (((Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship))) as it'd be the first LEGO set I'll be getting since Eldorado Fortress remake :shrug_confused: But such a model is indeed an enormous blow to the budget of every AFOL collecting few themes at once or just generally buying LEGO sets of liking.

May you be right! That would be wonderful! And it would be about time... It would be expensive, but probably not more than buying a whole wave of sets, at the end of the day. I suppose that, if we're lucky, the Flying Dutchman could be next, and this ship is looooong overdue, so getting it at this level of detail would be crazy.

I for one would also love to get a new Queen Anne's Revenge. Just imagine the Revenge from Pirates 5, gold and "pourpre" everywhere ("pourpre" should translate into "purple", but it looks different to me...). Throw in a Barbossa minifig in his Pirates 5 regalia - which was totally skipped in 2017 - along with Murtogg and Mullroy, and... sorry, I'm getting carried away, but you see what I mean ;) Endless possibilities, a whole world to explore!

We had our share of pirate ships, the Pearl, the QAR, again the Pearl, and what about the HMS Interceptor? :pir-hmpf:

Well I was all for an Interceptor, but unfortunately, the Interceptor's crew is coming with the Pearl, and I highly doubt that Norrington and a couple of red coats would be as appealing to the masses as Jack Sparrow & Co... And that's probably also why Lego didn't give us the Pearl with Barbossa's crew (which is a pity, if you ask me). So we won't be getting an Interceptor anytime soon, I'm afraid

By golly, give me redcoats or give me death!

Seriously, though, we have not gotten a medium to large ship for the Imperials since what, 2010 - 2012?

And that was Classic Pirates, in PotC we never got one

Exactly, we only got 2 redcoats in one small to medium-sized set and 1 in a minifig pack for the entire PotC theme, with no ship whatsoever.

I have some mixed feelings about this set... But i'll wait for more oficial high resolution pictures of the ship before going into details.

All i can say, for now, is that for 380$, i kinda expected more of the minifigures selection in terms of details/prints:

  • Jack Sparrow has a very accurate color scheme, skin tone and general details... but they should've used a blue torso piece instead of a white one, almost looks like he's not wearing he's usual vest (the arm pieces just blends with the torso, it doesn't work!). Is the hat a bit too glossy? ;
  • Captain Barbossa... I really expected more of this minifigure. Almost everyone here mentioned the lack of the yellow sash and his pale green (yeah, it's green) bandana and other details. And after that amazing FORTNITE version, i was hoping that TLG would pay some real atention to it because it's simply perfect in every way!
But the face... Damn! They ruined the face. What the hell is with that beard design!? Honestly! I can't find the words (i almost feel tempted to use the older version of Barbossa and simply use the new hair/hat piece and surely i'm not the only one tinking of it). I even have my doubts regarding the hair/hat piece... Such a waisted oportunity! :pir-sceptic:
  • Mr. Gibbs it's OK, but my biggest issue with this minifigure (the same thing with Cotton, Will Turner and Anamaria), it's the lack of detail in the leg piece... Is it so hard to print some boots the same way as Jack? Even Sir Isaac Newton minifig had boots! The latest Build a Minifigure pirate version has boots, the Quartermaster Minfigure... By now it should be a rule that Pirate Minifigures should have printed boots... Simple as that!
As to Mr. Gibbs, beside the "boot print", the leg piece should be a lighter grey.
  • Mr. Cotton is another example of that lack of atention. He should have a vest print down to the leg piece and have the same "boot print" treatment, although he uses sandals (so, not sure how to solve that, is it possible only to print the feet part?) :pir-grin:
  • Marty it's fantastic, a very detailed torso and accurate skin tone... But the same thing with Jack and the vest print, they should've used a torso piece with the same color of the vest instead of a white one. As to the legs, considering they're small and Marty uses sandals, i'm not sure if they could print just the "shoe part"... But i can live without it! :pir-grin:
  • Anamaria it's OK... Very diferent from what i was expecting (don't like the video game version). Just the "boot print" treatment and it would've been great.
  • Will Turner is quite cool with that beautifuly detailed pattern in the torso piece. But the "boot print" treatment was required as well, although he uses shoes and light grey "socks" (don't know the exact term) up to his knees.
  • Elizabeth it's fine, the dress pattern looks great, but i'm starting to get tired of the repeated use of Jyn Erso print for the head piece.

There was so much to improve and a 380$ set really deserved that extra atention to it. The older sets, the FORTNITE versions, the Video Game... they had it all and frankly, they kinda wasted the oportunity to make it better.
Sorry for my english... i've been writing this for almost an hour and without diccionary. :pir-laugh:

I totally get all that criticism with the minifigs, Barbossas faceprint is just terrible. I remember some YouTuber explaining how TLG decides how to incorporate Minifigures, I think it was Tiago Caterino, and basically he said the Designers work with a set Budget for every set and then have to compromise for that. So for example, every leg print takes more of that budget, as do new part molds for hair pieces, so they don’t give leg prints to certain charakters to accomodate the budget. That is why they always have a mix of differently detailed minifigures.

And then there is the reasoning to have somewhat imperfect minifigures in sets to then have „improved“ versions in future sets as another incentive to by those. That is why I don’t think the Interceptor is off the table, maybe not next year but in two years and with better printing for the crew and Jack the monkey as an exclusive Charakter. The Bagend set this year had a lot if the same charakters as Rivendell and Sam and Frodo were even included in last years Barad Dur.

But you are absolutely right, that is a terrible practic, TLG is charging premium prices for mediocre products, just because they can. There are way more casual collectors out there paying those prices without giving it a second thought.
