If you've been paying attention, castle is wildly over-represented already in the BDP.  I'm not complaining, but I don't see them doing a castle-specific series.

If there is a separate Castle line in BDP, then it would not eat up a spot on the final five. At the same time, Castle fans would be happy to get more of what they want.

Castle could mostly eat up the top spots in the vote. Would BL allow it in the final roster? Most likely not. But then you disenfranchise the same people who enthusiastically voted. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I don't know what other solution there is. Just send the rest of the popular castle MOCs as instructions to Rebrickable?

When was copper last used? I think it's just a shiny render showing reddish brown.

There are already a thousand castles at rebrickable. I'd like to see what new lore people come up with without instantly making it a business :shrug_confused:

Fantasy era I believe with the troll and dwarf helms.  It still looks copper to me the legs look reddish brown and the helm doesn't look like them.

Compare the knight with the teal spaceman on the left. The legs look much darker and the helmet also has these shiny spots.

Copper would be welcome though.

I don't know what the spaceman has to do with copper but we will find out soon as this set releases June 1st.

It's the render. The same effects are used for all minifigs!

EDIT: Official pictures often look very shiny. Just to give an example, I still remember the infamous 76232 Hoopty, which looks very shiny in the official pictures while in reality it is just lbg. But like I said, copper would be welcome

IIRC, the designer of an Ideas set also receives a (small) number of 'his' sets from LEGO. If so, and if you know him, it may be a way to support him directly when you buy one of him in person?

I don't know him personally but if would know him , I would buy it from him. Ofcourse I could try to figure out what street he lives but that is considered stalking I think.

So to the designer (if you're reading this) . I would like to buy it directly from you.

^^^ Bummer that not all, or none, of the above might make it to a real set... I doubt BDP will allow all those castles to win the vote.

Also, wanted to point out some standout MOCs for faction HQs on RB:

Apparently Lord Crow (CMF Tournament Knight) lives in his own castle: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-216341/Legat_Of_Legion/crow-lords-castle/#details

And the Wolfpacks live in Howling

Those would be the perfect BDP finalists:pir-love:

Yes, I'm wrong - on closer inspection it does look like copper, especially in the first pic.  That is excellent, it's a rare color and should allow some very unique army building.

The Order of the Griffin will soon be joining my castle world. Great time to be a castle fan! Hopefully the mini figs show up on PAB

The Ninjago Hands of Time set wave from 2017 had a nice bronzey coppery colour, different from the fantasy era troll commander helmet paint. More of a pearl copper I guess, but the colour has seemingly been discontinued. Though they could bring it back there is also the chance that it's just brown with a shiny render like has been suggested.

Copper Metallic (the "pearl" copper from Hands of Time) is discontinued, but Copper Ink (the ink color used for printed/coated parts) is not—this is probably the latter.

I never realized/thought of using the ninja scarf pieces with the Viking helmet before! Helps to give the Kraken knights an air of mystery.

I wonder which other pieces work? If I'm not mistaken, that helmet debuted in a Viking CMF that was designed to have a beard.

I had suspected as much, a shame really. I'd put it second in my list of colours that need reviving behind only sand red. Honestly a lot of the blues are quite similar so if they didn't want to bloat the pallette I'd be fine with the copper and sand red replacing medium azure and medium blue.

I like the Castle figs but the Bandana things on the Kraken Knights will be dumped in the parts bin.  Not a fan of the Brown Helmet on them either so I will probably use some other helmets for them.  I sincerely doubt they are actually Copper colored.  Took me a while to figure out the Pirate Captain.  I thought it was a Marching Band member until I saw the map and pistol & realized it was supposed to be a Pirate.  Happy for new colors for Classic Space though those weren't my preferred color choices, glad they have  the Classic face rather than male & female heads.  I don't care at all for the Paradisa, Fabuland or Generic Figures.  I'll probably get the set but I'll definitely be buying more Knight, Spacemen & Pirate parts.  Wish they had included Redbeard as shown in the original submission.

I'm really looking forward to some BDP submissions for these new factions. Even better, some official LEGO sets too! I hope it generates different styles of castle, in the way that the Wolfpack did. Too many of the BDP finalist castles are similar to Lion Knights Castle, and I prefer variety after a while.

I don't share your enthusiasm for the BDP program at all. It's a half-hearted solution for Castle fans. Above all, we need original sets and new themes with full ranges of sets.

Agree…

Except for Sleepless Knight submissions - Mountain fortress is almost better than any castle Lego has produced period. LKC is even in terms of quality…

Siege camp lacks good figures, but I understand that BDP uses only existing prints and parts.

Other submissions I have seen doesnt looks as good to make me pay for them…

I think these 2 Castle figs are reasonable, but not brilliant. Regardless, I will be trying to build a decent-sized army for both factions. I don't think the set is worth paying that money for the minifigs, when you consider how disappointing the Fabuland, Paradisa & Pirate ones are. Set looks nice though. Some nice printed Castle parts, not sure what I'll customise them to to make them 'right'. But I might wait until some Bricklink castle submissions come up before going berserk on the minifigs.

I am really surprised to see so many people calling for BDP and Rebrickable to fuel the new factions before they are even released. Nobody is planning to build MOCs to give the Kraken Knights and Griffon Knights a new home?

Mountain fortress is by a wide margin the best lego castle set of all.
 Followed closely by lion knights.
That said, the techniques involved in creating the rock parts outside and some of the detailing on the high tower far outshines lion knights.

Agree. Mountain Fortress is slightly better than Lion knights castle. A lot of people don't like the Mountain Fortress because of the lack of interior inside. That’s easily fixed and you can do it yourself. The designer had a piece limit of 4000 and the LKC had 4500 parts.

I think the Mountain Fortress is a piece of art and the best castle ever designed as a set yet.

One thing prevents the MF from being the best castl set ever (interiors aside) - coming from BDP and thus either dealing with scalpels or having to manually sort all the pieces :P

And I'd say it goes beyond the level of detail - the interior for the LKC just feels better designed.

Honestly; until I built it, I thought it looked great but wasn’t super excited to build it.

After I was blown away by the build and how much it transcended a set and was art.

I can understand this take, but lego obviously gave lion knights a much bigger budget in regards to parts number, variance of having multiple new torsos and parts printed and made specifically for the set so it’s an unfair comparison to make I feel.
Also the snow environment absolutely develops a build in a way I wish more offical sets did. Parts of the castle being not being symmetrical due to being snowed over made it feel a lot more dynamic and alive, than the fairly standard brick stacking method of lion knights.

I think LKC was a great build but Lego built it only in "one dimension" so to speak. They just wanted a castle built with modern pieces but evoked the classic Castles theme.

OTOH, MF was built with much artistic freedom. I think setting the castle in a snowy environment is one dimension or layer of change that Lego would not have entertained.

Moving forward, I do hope future castles will incorporate more of this artistic freedom, especially now that we have new factions, with some of them being somewhat unconventional. I linked a reddit post above and you can see that some of those BDP8 submissions had color themes or settings that weren't quite there in previous classic sets of the Castles theme.

Voted for Kraken but disappointed by the overall look.  The brown helmet and legs make it look odd.  The torso and shield are great.  The helmet is so easy to fix it is not even worth complaining about in itself.  But since the legs are printed to align with the torso that is more of an issue.  Man, I wish they used the same color for the legs as the arms.  That would look a lot better to me at least.  Griffin looks awesome. Though I will switch the helmet.
