OttoRiver Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I would definitely go for the Cedric head over Venkman. Might also want to look at the Paul Atredies head which gives a bit more neutral grimmace as an alternative. I know the eyebrows are black, but Philip's eyebrows are a bit darker than his hair in the film. Also interested to know what you'll be using for a torso.

I completely skipped past Paul Atredies' head when browsing for options, but so glad you pointed it out because it does make for a great option after seeing it more zoomed in. I also noticed Phillip has darker eyebrows and wanted to achieve this effect. I think it could work so I will chase up as where I can get it and see how it turns out in person: Mecabricks doesn't have it available to trial digitally. If the eyebrows appear too dark, which honestly at this point I don't mind as long as it means I create a Phillip minifigure, it could work great for Eric. As for the torso, that has to be the more trickery part and will require some customisation. I have closely examined whether his outfit is grey or tan/browns in it's colour scheme - it seems to vary immensely throughout the film and other Disney materials. The Lego leak shows him wearing his cape with a grey outfit, and as I'm wanting to draw inspiration from what is shown, I might go with grey; additionally, the colour scheme of greys suit him more with the cape than with tans and browns on Mecabricks. I've had a quick look at grey torsos, and I might (big might) settle with Luke Skywalker's grey Jedi robe torso and remove printing where needed and to shape the collar. I would look for hip printing for his belt, just as how Florian's belt is printed on his hips. As Phillip's cape technically obscures his black collar in the film, and due to unavailability of grey torsos with cape details printed, I will look into a pure red version of the CMF Series 13 King's capes. I know a good custom cape business that replicates the shapes of existing Lego capes in a range of styles and colours, so it could be done - besides, the cape itself has the same layered effect as Phillip's cape. Edit: So reviewing the Luke torso piece made me realise the black printing does not come out wide enough across the chest to resemble Philip's outfit, and the cape I was looking at may not sit over the front enough to obscure the lack of black printing. May look at another cape if I cannot find a more suitable torso. Edited June 24, 2024 by TheFriedChimken

TheFriedChimken Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 So here's the progress so far with my custom Prince Phillip minifigure. Thought I'd compare it with other Disney figures so other's can judge what they think so far in addition to visually support my decision making and explanations for what I plan to do next 🙂 So, upon trying out the Cedric Diggory head in person, it unfortunately didn't suit. While it had the more ideal brave expressions, it didn't have that "Disney-esque" style to it; it needed that more fluid emotive appearance, and Cedric's head striked me as too flat in emotion when compared with other Disney figures. To add on to that, the mouth printing on Cedric is a little too thin when comparing to the thickness of other mouth prints of Disney figures, which bothered me 😅 I tried getting a hold of a Paul Atredies head, which was more ideal than Cedric; however, at this point in time, the shipping and handling fees for every store I look at was way too out of hand when trying to get either the head or the figure itself. This left me with Venkman's head, which I had been conflicted as to whether or not it would work and thought I'd have the same problem as I did with Cedric. I was quite happy to see that Venkman's head does actually look rather alright in person (still want to try out Paul's head though), as it had a decent sense of expressions demonstrated with Disney figures. I think this is best illustrated when comparing my MOC figure with Charming and Florian, which are both reused heads themselves and Florian uses a shocked expression for his alternative face too. Going on from here, and after a lengthy search for parts, I think I'm going to turn to custom printing - I don't think there are any official printed pieces out there that would suit. I intend to replicate the lower half of Florian's outfit, without the gold trim, as both Phillip and Florian do share a similar outfit. As for an upper half, I'd probably do a plain black triange-esque shape with a stitch across the chest. My intention is do some pad printing by hand, creating my own silicone based stamps. I still need to do some research into what paint is used by Lego, also draft up how I'd like for the printing to look before I can proceed in this direction.
cosmic Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 So never saw the 2020 Polybag for the Princess book which came with that mini doll with Poison Ivy's hair in pink. To be exact, its the DC Superhero Girls Poison Ivy hair in pink. I think that mini doll hair looks amazing and I wish I picked that book up. It's weird, I swear I never saw any posts on Reddit, instagram or even Eurobricks advertising that book with that doll. Hopefully that hair pops up somewhere else, but wow that set really fell under the radar.
BrickBob Studpants Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 The Jack Skellington minifig leaked! I‘m glad they brought back the bat tie piece, and the long arms and legs work really well here The leaked figure‘s missing the waist coat cloth piece, but allegedly it‘ll be included in the set!

Dang... For the most part, I'm not a fan of the long armed and legged minifigs, but I have to admit that it looks really good on Jack! Probably because he is so tall and skinny in the movie. I wonder if they would reuse TLBM's Joker coattails in black for Jack? I'm by no means a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan - most of my affection for it comes from Kingdom Hearts, if I'm honest - but I'm interested to see what the rest of the crew looks like.

Same here. I don't usually like the long legged minifigs but it suits Jack here. And for anyone who prefers the regular-sized minfigs, there's always an easy fix by swapping him out for the original. I'm in the same boat. Never been a huge fan of TNBC outside of Kingdom Hearts, but the project submission was so well done that I feel this will be a must-have. 14 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: Those are wayyyy too long though… I think they‘ll reuse the cloth piece from the CMF series Definitely! It would feel very strange for him to not be included though. Same with the Mayor although he has such unique proportions, that I'm not sure he would look all that great as a minifig.

The Home Alone Set got 5 Minifigs, while in the Fan Design only Kevin and the Gangsters were present and in other sets they also made changes on which figures were included. However Sets with fewer minifigs in the fan design of course have a higher chance to get additional figures, and if those figures need new moulds that will lower the chance.

The finalised Steamboat Willie set featured Minnie, which the submission didn't. The Yellow Submarine set had that weird little guy as an extra. The Exo Suit included two minifigs rather than just one. This may count as cheating, but the original submission of the Orient Express had no minifigs While a lot of Ideas sets end up with fewer minifigs than in the submissions (looking at you, Sesame Street), there is some precedence for figures being added, and quite a few of them being Disney ones, no less However, if Oogie's included, I'd wager he replaces one of the characters from the original design. If the choice was between Oogie and Santa, I'd go for the former, and I'd gladly sacrifice Jack in his Sandy Claws costume for Zero (even though it's technically an animal and not a figure, but one that requires a new moulded piece). If I had to order the characters I want the most, it'd look like this: Zero Oogie Lock, Shock, and Barrel Finkelstein Santa Jack as Sandy Claws The mayor Random citizens of Halloween Town Sally's omitted since she's the only character guaranteed to be included by default. No way we're getting all of them, but I could live with the lower half of that list getting axed
Space Coyote Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I was finally able to track down the Jack leak and see it for myself. It's definitely an improvement on the cmf. The long limbs do a better job conveying his spindly-ness.

If the set was closer to $100, I might keep it on my radar, even if it's not something I would normally get (which is how I ended up betting Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street). $200 is too much for me to get on a whim - especially with so many other sets coming out.

In this particular case though, I’m glad they decided not to downscale it. Not only because I really like the build, but also to make sure as many minifigs as possible can be included. This will be our only TNBC set for a loooooong time, after all

I don't see any potential for future NBC sets unlike, say Winnie the Pooh, with a lot of locations and some iconic characters missing. I fear any Christmas Town would be too similar to Lego's own Winter Village sets to be deemed worthwhile by Lego and a Hinterlands set with just trees and Jack wouldn't hold a lot of appeal for anyone but the most diehard (or a cheaper way to get Jack and Zero).
hikouki Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 It would be great if they go 'all out' on this one. We are just hungry for more MINIFIG sets! I was going to point out that this will be a set where all the minifigs are new (not repeats from the recent releases), and likely will not have any potential to be repeated. I know Lego has been repeating many minifigs recently.

Maybe a smaller set with Jack as Sandy Claws (especially if that minifig is cut from the upcoming set) in his sleigh with the skeleton reindeer. But I agree, what we're getting here is probably a one-and-done. I'm still hoping we'll get future Winnie the Pooh sets because the set designers were quite enthusiastic about continuing that line with more characters and their houses. Thank you both for confirming all that. That's a good sign especially considering how many of the Disney sets were upgraded. I can see Jack in his Sandy Claws outfit and regular Santa both being scrapped. If we get Oogie Boogie and the Mayor instead of them, I'd be happy. I feel Zero is too iconic for him to be omitted. I'd wager to say he's as much a given as Sally is.

What’s interesting to think about is that Zero might have been included as an accessory for CMF Jack, had he been part of the D100 series rather than S2. The latter had no animal sidekicks, while the former had plenty Maybe just a coincidence, but I think they tweaked their approach a bit in-between the two series. But yeah, they have no excuse to leave him out of this set! We already have two ghost dogs in LEGO form, time for THE ghost dog to make his debut Edited July 8, 2024 by BrickBob Studpants

I get what you're saying about the Lego movie, I personally do consider it licensed since the license kinda is Lego itself anyway I can understand seeing it as unlicensed.
