I asked him about and he said we will not be disappointed. No chances POTC comes back right???

Hmm I’m guessing a big ship and maybe some cool builds. Fingers crossed for non licensed sets for me!

I really need an imperial flagship. I'm assuming POTC isn't coming back but at the same time a bunch of pirates parts got retired on PAB including imperial uniforms...worrying. This points to licensed sets and there have been 0 rumours of POTC. The goonies ship and BDP are the only things I can think of right now

PAB also removed the sheep, but that is in a new City set, maybe they removed it to increase the price  Anyway PAB is not a trustworthy source to predict the future.. That said I do not believe we get a normal Pirates wave before I see it :pir-laugh:

I definitely didn't say that, I would never act like I know what Lego is considering

Maybe I got the source wrong. Let me see if I can find the origin of it. Pretty sure I screenshot it.

Maybe it's a CMF series? Although that's probably unlikely since we get the Pirate Quartermaster in the regular CMF.

Unfortunately we are getting these three CMF series next year (Spiderverse is only a rumor at this point):

  • Regular CMF series 27
  • Formula 1 cars
  • Spiderverse

Thanks for the news! :classic:

I would highly welcome a new, unlicensed Pirates set next year!

Like @Roebuck said, that the Imperials torsos will be removed from PaB doesn't say anything - they might appear there next year again. Plus have you thought about Lego could also release an exclusive, big Pirates set neither been based on Bluecoats or Redcoats, but on the Armada?

I am not as optimistic. Eldorado Fortress didn't sell that well as Lego had hoped so they will not investing in a new pirate theme or set. CMF and BDP(or other brick brands) are the only way to get some pirate things... But a pirate /imperial ship from Lego , no. Not while the Endurance is on the shelves.

I think someone here was asking about the new Leonardo da Vinci's torso. Here be a closer look at it:

It seems more suitable for vikings/medieval aristocrat or such, then again, it could bode well for northern pirates. :pir-huzzah2:

Thank ye :steve:

The printed tile also looks very good. Here's hoping the torso, legs and printed tile will show up at PAB eventually. Fingers crossed!

I fear that you are right. But ...

1. If Lego already had gotten up after one try in the past, the company wouldn't exist these days anymore. They know now that retro sets with elements of nostalgic sets of the past (Lion Knights' Castle, Medieval Town Square) work most of the time better that a more or less replicia of the original set. So if they e. g. made a re-design of the Caribbean Clipper, but in the size of the Imperial Flagship, I bet that this set would sell very well.

2. The Endurance is not System scale and is only for displaying (in a showcase). Of course you can do this with a System scale Pirates theme based ship, too, and for sure some people would do. But the target audience here would mainly be people who then would use the ship for putting it into a Pirates layout or giving it to their kids for playing. So no, I don't think that (the sales numbers of) The Endurance will take influence on a Pirates theme based System scale ship.

Honestly, i think the Endurance will sell even worse. The set is too niche and there's no nostalgia factor to it.

Yes, I agree.

I see it completely different:

The fact that there'll be a PotC exclusive ship and a whole new theme about comic pirates, shortens extremely the chance for getting an unlicensed Pirates set this and next year. And this although a redesign of the Caribbean Clipper is since long overdue. :pir-cry_sad:

I completely agree with you.

Licensed themes destroy the revival of the classic themes.

That's why we have no Classic pirates, Space, castle, western....

Only an occasional €200+ set aimed at adults nostalgia.

Aldi has just launched a complete pirate line under their own brand, Toy Lino, with a big ship (39€), fort, island, tavern etc. all we would like Lego to do. In Portugal they are selling like hot breads, and without minifigs!

I'm still a purist so I wont buy them, but how can a supermarket do it and Lego keeps ignoring us :pir-murder:

I too saw the Toylino sets in my local ALDI. I was impressed, because the sets looked much better than the sets from their previous Playland line. Everybody is selling pirates sets nowadays, except Lego.

If a discount grocery store can sell a full lineup of pirate sets Lego should do it before they start losing market share to these knockoff brands. All the pieces are there and minifig designs already exist so if they wanted to they could quite easily design 5-10 sets and have them available in stores fast and with no money going to new pieces, minifigs or licenses the prices could be kept reasonably low. The sets should be primarily aimed at kids (and AFOLs that like normal System style Pirates sets). The Imperial Soldiers from the new Eldorado Fortress would be perfect for the subtheme and there are enough pirate minifigs from the Barracuda Bay and the Creator Pirate ship so that they can be combined in new ways.

I would say that the main cost of pieces with new prints is actually still logistics and not the design of the print - so using existing minifigs wouldn´t really save much costs as they would still have to keep them in production (or bring them back, since Baracuda Bay and Eldorado Fortress are long retired). And then it isn´t just about pirates but Space and Castle would need the same treatment - still of course they could bring them back, if they wanted to - but apparently market research shows that producing something else will be giving them better sales. Which doesn´t mean we will never get those themes back, maybe if they increase the number of sets they are doing every year even further, who knows...

It must be more costly to have the Aldi sets shipped from China to Europe compared to shipping Lego sets from Denmark or the Czech Republic to other European countries so I believe logistics can't be blamed. I have never seen any market research that has given such results. If any has been made the results have not been made public. Designing a minifig is a long process involving several employees so having modern designs ready in a digital database is equal to saving a lot of money. Using already existing pieces would save even more. The resistance to themes such as Pirates, Space and Castle seem to more of an ideology among the new generation of license minded company executives than financial decisions based on research.

Sure wish I could get that Aldi ship in the US - or even just get a scan of the instructions and a parts list. I have some white hulls and sails sitting in my parts bin, waiting for the right ship to use them. If anyone on Eurobricks has the Aldi ship, could you please scan the instructions and DM me a link to a Google Drive folder or something? Thanks.

That market share has already been lost. Lego has effectively ceded Pirates and Castle to the knockoffs for about a decade now, and the abundance of cheap knockoff castles and pirate ships available on online marketplaces makes it much harder to regain that market segment at a competitive price than it would have been if Lego hadn't let Pirates and Castle die in the first place. Of course, I'd love to see Lego make a comeback with full retail lines of good Pirates and Castle sets at the full range of price points.

Maybe this speed buil helps:

Aldi Toylino

I have watched two videos about the ship now and it is much bigger than I had thought and much bigger than what the pictures suggested. Though the sails seem to be of a bit too thin fabric, so they are kind of see-through.

Thanks for the link. I already saw that video but I haven't taken the time to follow along with the speed build in Studio. FYI, a website calling itself Freizeitgalerie.com claims to have the Aldi ship for sale, but it's a scam. I foolishly tried to check out from that website and got hit with a fraudulent charge of 490 euro. My bank was able to refund me the 490 euro, but the PayPal dispute is still ongoing. I thought I was smarter than that, but I guess I'm not. Gonna have to be more careful about avoiding scams in the future.
