MagPiesRUs Posted November 21, 2007 My third MOC of a painting, 'The Death of Nelson', by Benjamin West With Britain threatening the French Empire, Admiral Pierre Charles attacks the British fleet, while Napoleon fought at Austerlitz. The French and Spanish fleet engages the British fleet, under the famed Admiral Nelson at Trafalgar. During the battle, a French soldier manages to shoot Nelson. His collegues rust to his aid. Before he dies, he learns of their victory, and dies knowing he won. Original painting: Legoed version: I just did the small part of where Nelson is dying, because the first picture I saw just showed that Who's this? Once again, our friendly painter *wub* : ...Who's on the mast of the ship, which has been pummeled with a cannonball: Look out, painter: :-D
zouave Posted November 21, 2007 This a cool vignette tp. Nelson's death was the ultimate going down fighting story. My favorite part is the painter in the mast. The cannon ball crashing into it is cool. Great job.
Mister Phes Posted November 21, 2007 We seem to have become art admirers of late! This fellow in the left corner brings new meaning "bending over backwards" X-D Ok, so it's a clever innovation for a mini-figure kneeling.
Brickmaster Posted November 21, 2007 The technique has actually been used by the lego company itself, take a gander! http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6076-1 Bodily part rearanging aside - it is quite a nice vig, like the others, swell job ole chap! Mister Phes Posted November 21, 2007 The technique has actually been used by the lego company itself, take a gander!http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6076-1 So it has! I've never noticed that before - well perhaps I did and just forgot about it. All the same good work for bringing it to everyone's attention! *y*
Asuka Posted November 21, 2007 Another very fine rendering of a great painting! :'-)
Lt. Col. Thok Posted November 21, 2007 Once again, a very nice Moc. An interesting choice of torso for Nelson, too.
Fordo Posted November 21, 2007 Once again a great depiction of the painting, and the Oriental Expedition torso fits him well. Nice work.
Lord Of Pies Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) Nice scene very well executed, Nelson missing a hand is a nice touch. (Probably not for Nelson himself though) And the painter in the mast is hilarious! *y* Edited November 21, 2007 by Lord Of Pies
Mister Phes Posted November 21, 2007 What happened to his hand anyways?
Col. Whipstick Posted November 22, 2007 What happened to his hand anyways? Was it Nelson who only had one arm?
MagPiesRUs Posted November 22, 2007 Thanks for the feedback everyone *sweet* What happened to his hand anyways? Well, it's supposed to be Nelson putting his hand in his coat pocket part, but looking back on it now, I'd have probably better off giving him a hand. Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2007 Maybe it would have worked better if you put the mini-figure's hand down by it's side because it looks like he's waving a stump in the air.
MagPiesRUs Posted November 22, 2007 Ah yes, that would be better. Thanks for the feedback Mr Phes *y*
Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2007 Or with a little photo editing in a program like Photoshop you could make it appear as though he has his hand in his pocket though that may undermine the design of the MOC.
woody64 Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) Looking on the detailed scene I fell some prickles to design some decals for the torso based on the painting .... I did a Nelson and added some fitting decals from Mosana: Nelson Officer on the right: Mosana's comodore Mosana's captain Doctor? Sailor: If you're interested I can give you some hints how to bring them on the torsos. Andreas Edited November 24, 2007 by woody64
Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2007 Ooooooo! Oooooooooo! When do we get to see these on a mini-figure?
