lightningtiger Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) It's yours truely again with another New Mannum building, but this one is a bit more tricky and is taking a lot of time to get right. So I'll post what I have so far - W.I.P. !!!! There are still some pieces missing from the shop front, the entrance to the shop is the second half of the store where the register/counter is (this has yet to be started). Above the pant rack will have actually clear 2x1 panels for luggage to be displayed, the space under the tops will display tiles stickered to represent socks and jocks which too I'll use the clear panels. The socks/jocks display might need some colour - thinking about it ! In South Australian country towns stores like Mensland also sell luggage, manchester/drappery and even sometimes ladies fashion too - just like an old fashioned drapers store of a hundred years ago ! Let me know what you all think so far ? I feel the top and pants displaying trick could be applied to the Grand Emporium ! Comments are very welcome ! I'm a conformist! ! Well the register and counter goes on another 8x16 base plate - hence the tech bricks for the joining pins. lightningtiger Posted February 13, 2010 Thanks 'Zorbas' for you kind comment. Wow, I wasn't expecting a response like this - COOL ! Like I said this one is the hardest to do so far, why you may ask ? I'm glad I did ! First of all it's an old shop on 2 (8x16) baseplastes - it was many years ago a grocers store, now a menswear (maybe full drapers yet - still working that out). There will be old worn signage on the side of the building, plus the roof is to be trimmed to give it that 1930-1950's store look. You see the post office and bank are modern, the Mitre 10 hardware store maybe 1960-1970's style of building, so when it comes to the supermarket that will be modern (that one replaces the one that now a Mensland store) Currently the bottom row of white bricks are getting changed to dark bluey grey, I've done the trans-clear 2x1 panels they look great on the inside - on yeah that blue brick up top is a camera and the silver grilles the air con. outlets. Slowly it's comming together - only to complete the lower sections trim work, print/sticker the tiles to look like socks & jocks and find cases to put on display. lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2010 Man, this is a mega WIP for me ! Just spent and the last two hours on this - whew ! Updated photos - please remember it's still a W.I.P......... I still have to finsh some of the stickers yet, clean up the actual bricks and panels which are dirty - you can't have a dirty clothes shop now can ya ! And before anyone says where's the door, I have to find a trans-clear one, so I didn't forget ! Let me know what you think of it so far. I'm a conformist! everyone ! Think I preferred it as the single storey building as shown in the first pictures, but I wait until I see the finished thing before I make my mind up. Can't wait to see how you do the socks. Perhaps you could brand it as a Harris and Scarfe or so (I'm sure New Mannum could use another iconic SA brand). I'd be tempted to add a manequin or two to the window display. This is a small river town, a full or even scaled down department store is for a population of greater than 10,000 - just look at Dubbo - they have a Myers (that's where over a year ago my 7898 came from). Whyalla has a HS, but look at it's population too. Now the manequin idea - is more sound and I have spare clean torsos and bottoms to pick a fashion combo out for the window I guess. Thanks for the comments 'grr' and I'm a conformist! ! This is one reason I called Lightningtiger - I'm fast (sometimes) - rarely on time though ! Don't get me wrong, it looks good now... but it will look amazing when you have room for several rows of clothes, dressing rooms, mirrors, etc... The stickers look real good also. I Scream Clone Posted February 15, 2010 This looks great LT. The stickers really lift the whole creation and firmly ground it in reality. One suggestion for the pants is to use a jumper plate and then one of the current clip plates on the top, this will then only require on rack like in real life and look like a coat hangar. The stickered roof trim looks great and the socks are a great little addition Might have to have a crack with photoshop and have a go making some stickers my self, as your use of stickers make a great little moc look extra special.
